Technical Performance
The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hard Anodised AL7075 27 Teeth represents the pinnacle of precision gear manufacturing for competitive RC enthusiasts. The 7075 T6 aluminium alloy is one of the strongest aluminium alloys available, offering an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that's critical in high-performance RC cars where every gram matters. The hard anodised finish adds a protective layer that resists corrosion, extends service life, and maintains dimensional stability even under the intense heat and friction generated during high-speed racing. At 9mm in length with a 4mm teeth width, this pinion delivers a balanced design that distributes forces evenly across the gear mesh. The 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) specification is a standard in modern 1/10-scale RC car racing, ensuring compatibility with all contemporary 48 DP drivetrain components. CNC manufacturing guarantees that tooth profiles are mathematically perfect, minimising backlash and maximising power transmission efficiency. The 1.5mm hex key size for installation makes setup straightforward, whilst the precise 3.17mm shaft diameter ensures a secure fit on standard brushless RC motors. For RC car UK buyers seeking to optimise their drivetrain performance, this pinion is an excellent choice for either upgrading from stock components or replacing worn gears that have accumulated miles on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48 DP pinion gear and why do I need one? — A 48 DP pinion is a small gear that meshes with a larger spur gear in your RC car's drivetrain. The DP (Diametral Pitch) specification indicates the gear's size and tooth profile. The 27-tooth configuration on this Corally pinion is a popular middle-ground option that works well for many RC cars, offering a balanced approach to acceleration and top speed. You'll need a quality pinion like this if you're building a new RC car, upgrading your drivetrain for better performance, or replacing a worn gear that's accumulated hours on the track.
- Is this Corally pinion suitable for RC beginners? — This is a component-level product, so it's best suited to RC enthusiasts who already understand drivetrain systems and have experience building or maintaining RC cars. If you're brand new to RC, you'll likely want to start with a ready-to-run RC car UK kit that comes fully assembled. However, once you've gained some experience, upgrading to precision components like this Corally pinion is a natural progression for anyone serious about improving their RC car's performance.
- What motor shaft diameter does this pinion fit? — This pinion is specifically engineered for 3.17mm motor shaft diameters, which is the standard size on most modern brushless RC motors used in 1/10-scale racing. Before purchasing, verify that your brushless motor has a 3.17mm shaft; using the wrong shaft diameter will result in poor fit, potential gear slippage, and possible drivetrain damage.
- How does the 27-tooth count compare to other pinion options? — Pinion gears typically range from around 23 to 35 teeth, with lower tooth counts providing faster acceleration and higher top speed, whilst higher tooth counts deliver more low-end torque and easier handling. The 27T on this pinion is considered a versatile middle option that works well on a variety of track layouts. If you find your current setup is too slow off the line, try a higher tooth count; if acceleration is good but top speed is lacking, experiment with a lower count.
- What does hard anodising do for this pinion? — Hard anodising is an electrochemical process that creates a protective oxide layer on the aluminium surface, significantly increasing hardness and wear resistance compared to standard anodising. This protective coating helps your pinion resist corrosion from moisture, extend its service life through hundreds of bashing sessions or competitive races, and maintain dimensional accuracy even under the friction and heat generated during operation.
- Can I use this pinion on any 48 DP RC car? — Yes, this pinion is designed to fit all 48 DP geared cars, regardless of manufacturer. Whether you're running a Corally platform or any other brand that uses 48 DP gearing, this component will fit seamlessly into your drivetrain. Always verify that your existing spur gear and drivetrain components are also 48 DP compatible.
- How do I know if my pinion gear is worn and needs replacement? — Signs of pinion wear include visible chipping or dulling of the teeth, increased noise or grinding sounds from the drivetrain, poor acceleration response, and visible backlash between the pinion and spur gear. If you notice any of these issues, replacing your pinion with a fresh Corally unit will restore smooth operation and peak performance.
