Overview
The Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hard Anodised AL7075 25 Teeth (model C-70425) is a premium quality replacement pinion gear designed for all 48 DP geared RC cars. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your RC car UK setup or a weekend basher looking to optimise your gearing ratio, this precision-engineered pinion delivers the performance and durability you need. Made from aircraft-grade 7075 T6 aluminium and hard anodised for superior strength, this is the kind of component that separates a well-maintained RC vehicle from one that struggles with vibration and premature wear.
Pinion gears are essential drivetrain components in RC vehicles, and choosing the right tooth count directly affects your car's acceleration, top speed, and overall performance characteristics. The 25-tooth configuration provides a specific gear ratio that works perfectly with standard 48 DP spur gears on most modern RC buggies, truggies, and touring cars. This particular pinion is CNC-cut with ultra-precise tooth shaping and concentricity, meaning every tooth is perfectly formed and the gear runs true without wobble or vibration. RC Model Shop stocks genuine Corally parts for customers across the UK who demand nothing but factory-spec components for their vehicles.
If you've been searching for a reliable replacement pinion or looking to experiment with different gear ratios on your ready to run RC car, this is exactly what you need. The hard-anodised finish means it will withstand thousands of gear cycles without stripping teeth or losing its edge, making it an investment in longevity and reliability for your RC collection.
Key Features
- 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This is aircraft-grade aluminium, one of the strongest aluminium alloys available, providing exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that keeps your drivetrain responsive whilst resisting the mechanical stresses that destroy inferior pinions.
- CNC-Cut Teeth for Perfect Tooth Shape and Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is computer-numerically-controlled cut to exacting tolerances, ensuring perfect meshing with your spur gear and eliminating the vibration and gear noise associated with poorly-formed teeth.
- 25-Tooth Configuration for 48 DP Geared Vehicles — The 25T tooth count works across all 48 DP geared RC cars, giving you the flexibility to achieve different gear ratios by pairing it with various spur gear sizes to match your track conditions and driving style.
- Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The precision manufacturing means this pinion runs dead-true in your motor shaft, eliminating vibration that would otherwise transmit through your chassis and reduce handling precision and component lifespan.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion fits all standard 3.17mm diameter motor shafts, covering the vast majority of modern brushless and brushed motors used in contemporary RC vehicles.
- Compact Short Profile — The short design minimises material whilst maintaining full strength, reducing unsprung weight and keeping your RC car balanced and responsive.
- Tooth Number Marking for Easy Identification — Each pinion is marked with its tooth count, making it instantly recognisable so you can quickly confirm you have the right ratio and avoid installation mistakes.
- Made in Europe with Quality Assurance — Manufactured to strict European standards using precision machinery and quality control processes, ensuring every pinion meets Team Corally's exacting specifications.
Technical Performance
This pinion represents the pinnacle of small-scale drivetrain engineering. The 7075 T6 aluminium alloy used in its construction is the same material found in aerospace applications, chosen specifically because it offers outstanding tensile strength and fatigue resistance whilst remaining lightweight. The hard anodising process creates a protective oxide layer that prevents corrosion and dramatically increases surface hardness, making the teeth resistant to the micro-deformation that causes gear degradation over time. When you compare this to cheaper pinions made from softer materials or with conventionally anodised finishes, the performance difference becomes immediately apparent once you start running your RC vehicle. The CNC-cut tooth profile ensures that every single tooth engages perfectly with your spur gear, distributing load evenly across all contact points rather than concentrating stress on one or two teeth. This even load distribution is what allows high-performance RC cars to sustain aggressive acceleration runs without tearing teeth or stripping the pinion. With a 4mm teeth width and 9mm overall gear length, this is a compact, efficient design that maximises durability within a minimal package. The 1.5mm hex key requirement for installation is standard across all modern 48 DP pinions, making it straightforward to swap gears when testing different ratios. For competitive racers and serious bashers in the UK RC community, this is the type of precision component that makes the difference between winning and breaking down mid-race.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 48 DP and other pinion pitches? — DP stands for Diametral Pitch, which determines the tooth size and spacing. 48 DP pinions have smaller, more closely-spaced teeth compared to 32 DP or 64 DP gears. The 48 DP standard has become the worldwide norm for modern RC cars because it offers an excellent balance between strength, efficiency, and the range of gear ratios achievable. If your RC car is already set up for 48 DP gearing, you must use a 48 DP pinion—mixing different DP ratios will result in poor meshing and rapid gear damage.
- How do I know if this 25T pinion is right for my car? — The 25-tooth count works with any 48 DP RC car that uses a 3.17mm motor shaft. However, the correct pinion tooth count depends on which spur gear you're running and what performance characteristics you want. Lower tooth count pinions (like 23T or 24T) create a higher final drive ratio for faster top speed but reduce acceleration. Higher tooth count pinions (like 26T or 27T) give more acceleration and pulling power but top speed suffers. The 25T sits in the middle of the range, making it ideal for all-purpose use. Check your car's manual or consult with the RC Model Shop team to confirm the right combination for your setup.
- Why is hard anodising important for a pinion gear? — Hard anodising creates a much thicker and harder protective layer than standard anodising, dramatically extending the lifespan of your pinion. Without this protection, the soft aluminium underneath would gradually deform as thousands of gear teeth engage and disengage. The hard-anodised surface keeps those teeth sharp and true-running far longer than untreated or soft-anodised alternatives. For serious RC enthusiasts who want their components to last through multiple racing seasons or intensive bashing sessions, hard anodising is non-negotiable.
- Will this pinion work with my existing motor and spur gear? — This pinion fits any 48 DP RC car drivetrain with a 3.17mm motor shaft, which covers virtually all modern brushless and brushed motors. The spur gear you're already using will work perfectly as long as it's also a 48 DP gear—the tooth counts are independent. If you currently run a 25T pinion with any spur gear size, this Corally pinion will drop straight in as a replacement.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a professional-grade component perfect for competitive racing, it's equally suitable for beginners because it simply replaces your existing pinion. There's no special installation knowledge required beyond basic RC car maintenance. If you're new to RC and looking to upgrade your car's drivetrain components, starting with genuine Corally precision-engineered parts like this pinion ensures you're building on a foundation of quality rather than learning to work with substandard components.
- How long will this pinion last? — The lifespan depends on driving intensity and maintenance, but with proper care, a hard-anodised 7075 T6 pinion like this should last thousands of gear cycles. The superior material and finish mean you'll likely replace it due to wanting to experiment with different ratios rather than because it has worn out. Competitive racers might replace pinions more frequently as they dial in their setups, but each pinion will still deliver excellent performance throughout its service life.
