Overview

The Team Corally 48 DP Pinion Short Hard Anodised AL7075 with 23 teeth and 3.17mm shaft diameter is a precision-engineered motor pinion gear designed for RC enthusiasts who demand the highest standards of performance and durability. This component is essential for any serious RC car UK builder or racer looking to fine-tune their drivetrain setup. Whether you're setting up a competitive 1/10 scale RC buggy, a high-speed touring car, or customising your existing RC vehicle, this pinion gear provides the exact tooth count and mechanical advantage you need to optimise your performance characteristics.

Built from premium 7075 aluminium alloy and finished with hard anodising, this pinion represents Team Corally's commitment to quality that resonates with the dedicated RC community across the UK and beyond. The hard anodised surface treatment provides exceptional wear resistance and longevity, ensuring your investment in precision components pays dividends through consistent performance over countless racing sessions and recreational bashing. The 23-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance for many popular RC car setups, offering a sweet spot between acceleration and top speed depending on your spur gear selection and motor KV rating.

For serious RC modellers seeking individual component upgrades, spare parts for competition setups, or replacement gears after intensive use, this pinion gear is an indispensable addition to your parts collection. RC car UK enthusiasts and international competitors alike trust Team Corally components for their engineering excellence and proven track record in demanding racing environments. This is the exact pinion you need whether you're maintaining your current setup, building a second vehicle, or optimising your car's gearing for a specific track or driving style.

Key Features

  • 48 Pitch Diametral (48DP) Specification — This precise 48DP rating ensures compatibility with standard 48DP spur gears and motor shafts across the RC hobby, allowing you to match this pinion with your existing drivetrain components with absolute confidence in fitment and performance.
  • 23 Teeth Configuration — The 23-tooth count provides an optimal balance between acceleration and top speed in most RC car applications, making it suitable for both competitive racing and recreational driving without requiring additional drivetrain modifications.
  • Premium 7075 Aluminium Alloy Construction — Aircraft-grade 7075 aluminium offers superior strength-to-weight ratio and exceptional hardness compared to standard aluminium, meaning this pinion resists stripping, shearing, and deformation even under extreme torque loads and high-speed operation.
  • Hard Anodised Finish — The proprietary hard anodising process creates a protective oxide layer that dramatically increases surface hardness and wear resistance, extending the service life of your pinion gear and maintaining precise mesh engagement with your spur gear over extended use periods.
  • 3.17mm Shaft Diameter — The standard 3.17mm shaft diameter (1/8-inch) provides universal compatibility with the vast majority of brushless and brushed RC motors used in 1/10 scale vehicles, eliminating fitment concerns and ensuring seamless integration into your existing setup.
  • Short Length Design — The compact short pinion design minimises weight whilst maintaining full tooth engagement and structural integrity, contributing to improved acceleration response and reduced drivetrain inertia.
  • Precision Engineering — Each pinion is manufactured to exacting tolerances by Team Corally, ensuring perfect concentricity and consistent tooth profiles that guarantee smooth mesh with your spur gear and eliminate vibration and noise.

Technical Performance

This Team Corally pinion gear represents the pinnacle of drivetrain component engineering for serious RC enthusiasts. The 48DP pitch standard and 23-tooth count deliver mathematically calculated gear ratios that work in harmony with popular motor sizes and spur gear combinations to produce predictable, tuneable performance across a wide range of driving conditions. The 7075 aluminium alloy selected for this pinion is the same material specification used in aerospace applications, providing tensile strength exceeding 570 MPa and yield strength around 505 MPa — substantially higher than conventional aluminium grades used in budget RC components. This exceptional strength-to-weight ratio means the pinion maintains structural integrity under the intense rotational stresses generated by high-KV brushless motors and responsive ESC throttle inputs. The hard anodising process adds a surface layer of aluminium oxide ceramic, increasing hardness to levels comparable with steel whilst preserving the weight advantages of aluminium construction. In practical RC car UK racing and bashing applications, this translates to significantly extended pinion life compared to untreated aluminium gears, with some users reporting 50% or greater longevity improvements. The 3.17mm shaft diameter integrates seamlessly with the vast majority of modern brushless RC motors and direct-drive setup configurations, whilst the short pinion design minimises rotational mass at the motor shaft, improving throttle response and reducing electrical demands on your ESC during rapid acceleration and deceleration cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Corally 48DP pinion compatible with my RC car? — This pinion is designed for any RC vehicle using standard 48DP gearing systems with 3.17mm motor shafts, which includes the vast majority of 1/10 scale RC cars, buggies, touring cars, and stadium trucks available in the UK market. Verify your existing spur gear is also 48DP before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • What is the difference between 23 teeth and other tooth counts? — Lower tooth counts (13-18 teeth) provide faster acceleration with lower top speed, whilst higher tooth counts (24-36 teeth) offer higher top speed with reduced acceleration. The 23-tooth option sits in the mid-range, making it ideal for mixed driving styles and general-purpose RC use. Experiment with different pinion tooth counts to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics for your specific track or driving style.
  • Why is hard anodising important in RC motor pinions? — Hard anodising creates a ceramic-hard protective surface layer that resists wear, corrosion, and stripping far more effectively than untreated aluminium. This extends the operational life of your pinion significantly, particularly in competitive racing environments where precise gear mesh is critical to performance consistency and reliability.
  • Can I use this pinion with different motor KV ratings? — Yes, this pinion works with any brushless or brushed motor featuring a 3.17mm shaft. Higher KV motors will produce faster acceleration through the gear, whilst lower KV motors will produce more torque-focused performance. Your final acceleration and top speed depend on the complete drivetrain equation involving motor KV, battery configuration, spur gear teeth, and terrain conditions.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement component for users with existing RC cars who understand drivetrain mechanics. If you're purchasing your first RC car, you'll likely want a ready-to-run option with the drivetrain pre-configured by the manufacturer. However, if you're upgrading or replacing a worn pinion in an existing vehicle, this component is straightforward to install with basic tools.
  • What makes Team Corally components recognised as premium? — Team Corally is an internationally recognised brand built on decades of racing heritage and precision manufacturing. Their components are engineered to competition standards, use premium materials like 7075 aluminium, and undergo rigorous quality control testing. This pinion represents that commitment to excellence in every detail.
