Technical Performance
The C-70416 pinion represents a convergence of precision manufacturing, material science and competitive racing experience. The use of 7075 T6 aluminium—the same alloy used in aerospace applications—demonstrates Team Corally's commitment to performance engineering. This specific aluminium grade offers superior hardness and fatigue resistance compared to standard 6061 aluminium, meaning the teeth resist dulling and the gear body resists bending even under the extreme stresses of high-speed RC racing. The hard anodising surface treatment further enhances durability, creating a wear-resistant layer that protects the underlying aluminium from oxidation and mechanical wear. For competitive RC car racing in the UK, where tight touring car circuits and high-speed buggy tracks demand precision drivetrain components, this pinion delivers the reliability and performance characteristics required. The CNC manufacturing process ensures tooth profiles match perfectly with spur gears, creating smooth engagement and minimal power loss through the drivetrain. The 4mm tooth width accommodates the gearing systems found in modern competition-grade RC vehicles, whilst the 9mm overall gear length keeps rotating mass to a minimum. This combination of specifications makes the pinion suitable for brushless motor systems delivering high torque and RPM, whether you're running a compact brushless motor for on-road racing or a more powerful brushless setup for off-road competition. The precise 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates the standard motor shafts found on most competition brushless motors, and the clearly marked tooth count eliminates installation errors when setting up different gear ratios. Whether you're preparing for a race weekend, rebuilding after wear, or fine-tuning your RC car's acceleration characteristics, this Team Corally pinion delivers the precision and durability expected in professional RC racing circles.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48 DP pinion gear and why do I need one? — A 48 DP (Diametral Pitch) pinion is a small drive gear that meshes with the spur gear in your RC car's drivetrain. The 48 DP designation refers to the tooth pitch standard, and 48 DP is one of the most common standards used in competitive RC racing in the UK and worldwide. The pinion transfers engine power to the drivetrain and, combined with the spur gear, determines your vehicle's final drive ratio, directly affecting acceleration, top speed and overall performance. The 16-tooth configuration is a versatile choice suitable for various track conditions.
- What does the 16-tooth configuration mean for my RC car's performance? — The 16-tooth pinion is a mid-range tooth count that balances acceleration and top speed. A lower tooth count pinion (like 14T) increases acceleration but reduces top speed, whilst a higher tooth count pinion (like 18T) increases top speed but reduces acceleration. The 16T offers a practical middle ground suitable for mixed-condition racing, making it an excellent choice if you race on different track layouts or prefer a balanced driving experience across various conditions.
- Is this pinion compatible with my RC car? — This pinion is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars that use 3.17mm motor shafts. Before purchasing, verify that your RC car's drivetrain follows the 48 DP standard and that your brushless motor has a 3.17mm shaft diameter. Most modern competition-grade RC buggies, touring cars and on-road racers use 48 DP gearing, but always check your vehicle's specifications or consult the manufacturer's documentation to confirm compatibility.
- What makes the 7075 T6 aluminium special compared to other pinion materials? — 7075 T6 aluminium is an aerospace-grade alloy known for exceptional strength, hardness and fatigue resistance. Compared to standard 6061 aluminium or steel pinions, 7075 T6 delivers superior durability whilst maintaining lower weight. The hard anodising surface treatment further enhances wear resistance, meaning the pinion teeth resist dulling and the overall gear body resists bending under extreme racing stresses. For competitive RC drivers, this material choice translates to longer gear life, more consistent performance and fewer breakdowns during important races or practice sessions.
- Do I need special tools to install this pinion? — No, installation is straightforward and requires only a standard 1.5mm hex key (Allen wrench), which is included in most RC tool kits. Simply remove the stock pinion, slide the new one onto your motor shaft and secure it with the hex screw. Most RC enthusiasts can complete the installation in under five minutes, making it an easy upgrade or replacement.
- How often do I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion lifespan depends on usage intensity and maintenance. With regular maintenance, including cleaning and occasional inspection, this hard anodised pinion should provide many hours of reliable service. However, competitive racers may choose to replace pinions periodically as part of routine drivetrain maintenance to maintain peak performance consistency. If you notice excessive noise, vibration or difficulty meshing with your spur gear, those are signs that replacement may be necessary.
- Can I use this pinion with different spur gear tooth counts? — Yes, this 16-tooth pinion can be paired with various spur gear sizes to achieve different overall gear ratios. Combining a pinion and spur gear creates your final drive ratio, which directly affects performance. For example, a 16T pinion with a 90T spur gives a 5.63:1 ratio, whilst a 16T pinion with a 100T spur gives a 6.25:1 ratio. Consult your RC car's tuning guide or contact our RC Model Shop team for recommendations on which spur gear sizes pair best with this 16T pinion for your specific vehicle and track conditions.
- Is Team Corally a recognised brand for RC components? — Yes, Team Corally is a highly regarded manufacturer of RC car components, with a reputation for precision engineering and competitive-grade quality. Their products are used by serious racers across Europe and the UK. The brand is particularly recognised for transmission components, chassis parts and drivetrain gears that deliver the precision and durability demanded by competitive RC racing.
