Built from aerospace-grade 7075 T6 aluminium and finished with a hard anodised coating, this pinion gear represents the pinnacle of performance-oriented drivetrain components. Team Corally's reputation for quality is well-established throughout the RC hobby, and this pinion exemplifies their commitment to precision manufacturing and durability. Whether you're a seasoned RC competitor seeking the ultimate in drivetrain reliability or an enthusiast looking to upgrade your RC car UK setup, this hard anodised pinion delivers the performance and longevity you need.

The C-70415 is manufactured in Europe using state-of-the-art CNC machinery, ensuring every tooth is cut to perfection with ultra-precise concentricity. This level of manufacturing excellence translates directly into smoother power delivery, reduced vibration, and extended component lifespan—all critical factors for maintaining competitive edge on the track or enjoying trouble-free recreational driving.

Key Features

  • 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This aerospace-grade aluminium alloy is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, and the hard anodised coating provides superior surface hardness that resists wear, corrosion, and mechanical damage, ensuring your pinion maintains precise tooth engagement even after extended use.
  • CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Shaping and Concentricity — Every tooth on this pinion is machined on precision CNC equipment, guaranteeing consistent tooth geometry and perfectly true running surfaces, which eliminates vibration and noise whilst maximising power transfer efficiency from your motor to the drivetrain.
  • Module 48 DP Specification — The 48 diametral pitch specification means this pinion is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars, giving you access to a wide range of gear ratio options across Team Corally's pinion range to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics.
  • 15-Tooth Configuration — The 15-tooth count provides an excellent middle-ground gear ratio that works well across diverse track layouts and driving conditions, offering strong acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top-end speed potential.
  • 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion accepts standard 3.17mm (1/8-inch) motor shafts, the industry standard for 48 DP systems, ensuring hassle-free installation on virtually all compatible brushless and brushed RC motors.
  • Compact Short Design — The short profile (9mm length) minimises rotating mass and inertia, contributing to snappier throttle response and more agile handling characteristics, whilst the 4mm tooth width provides ample surface contact for load distribution.
  • Tooth Number Identification Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count, allowing for rapid and error-free identification when swapping between different gear ratios during setup tuning or maintenance.
  • 1.5mm Hex Key Retention — The pinion secures to your motor shaft using a standard 1.5mm hex key grub screw, a specification found on most quality RC motors, making installation straightforward without requiring specialty tools.

Technical Performance

The Team Corally C-70415 represents the absolute pinnacle of pinion gear engineering for the 48 DP RC car category. The use of 7075 T6 aluminium—the same material specification used in aerospace applications for its exceptional strength and lightweight properties—ensures that this pinion can handle the extreme stresses generated by high-powered brushless systems whilst remaining compact and efficient. The hard anodising process adds a microscopically thin ceramic-like layer to the aluminium surface, dramatically increasing hardness and wear resistance compared to standard anodising. This is particularly important in pinion gears, where the teeth are in constant mesh with spur gears, generating tremendous forces that can gradually wear softer materials. The 9mm length and 4mm tooth width have been engineered to provide the optimal balance between load-carrying capacity and rotating mass—too light and the teeth would strip under load; too heavy and the drivetrain would feel sluggish and unresponsive. The 15-tooth count means a gear ratio of 3.2:1 when meshed with a standard 48-tooth spur gear (15÷48), producing a setup that excels in mixed conditions. For technical RC car UK competitors, this ratio provides sufficient torque multiplication for launching out of slow corners whilst maintaining enough top speed for high-speed circuit sections. The CNC-machined tooth profile ensures every tooth is geometrically identical, which is crucial because any variation would cause uneven power delivery, vibration, and premature wear patterns. The ultra-true running concentricity—achieved through precision CNC grinding—means the pinion's teeth rotate on a perfectly centred axis, eliminating the wobble that causes noise and reduces drivetrain efficiency. When compared to mass-produced stamped or moulded alternatives, this precision-engineered approach delivers measurably better performance, longevity, and reliability across hundreds of racing events and casual driving sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the gear ratio when this 15T pinion is used with a standard spur gear? — The 15-tooth pinion produces a 3.2:1 gear ratio when meshed with a standard 48-tooth spur gear (calculated as 48÷15). This is a versatile ratio suitable for mixed-condition racing and recreational driving, offering a balanced compromise between acceleration and top speed.
  • Is this pinion compatible with my RC car? — The C-70415 is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars that use a 3.17mm motor shaft. This includes many popular racing platforms from Team Corally, HPI Racing, Associated, TLR Racing, and other manufacturers. Check your vehicle's documentation to confirm it uses a 48 DP drivetrain and 3.17mm motor shaft before purchasing.
  • What makes hard anodised aluminium better than standard anodising? — Hard anodising creates a much thicker and harder oxide layer compared to standard anodising, providing superior resistance to mechanical wear, corrosion, and chemical damage. For a pinion gear that's constantly meshing with other components under high stress, this enhanced durability translates into significantly extended service life and more consistent performance over time.
  • Can I use different tooth counts with this pinion? — Absolutely. Team Corally produces pinions in a complete range of tooth counts for the 48 DP system, allowing you to adjust your gear ratio for different track layouts. Lower tooth counts produce higher gear ratios with more top speed; higher tooth counts produce lower gear ratios with more torque and acceleration.
  • How do I install this pinion on my motor? — Simply slide the pinion onto your motor's 3.17mm shaft until it sits at the correct mesh depth with your spur gear, then secure it using the 1.5mm hex key grub screw. Ensure the pinion is properly seated and the grub screw is tightened firmly to prevent slippage during operation.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst the C-70415 is a high-quality component used by competitive drivers, it's equally suitable for beginners or casual RC enthusiasts. Pinion gear selection is primarily about choosing the right gear ratio for your needs rather than requiring advanced technical knowledge. If you're new to RC cars, consult your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility and optimal tooth count for your specific model.
  • How often should I replace this pinion? — With proper maintenance and the hard anodised aluminium construction, this pinion should provide thousands of racing runs before requiring replacement. Inspect it regularly during routine maintenance for signs of tooth wear or damage. If you notice unusual drivetrain noise or feel grinding during operation, it may be time to replace both the pinion and spur gear together.
  • What is the difference between a 15T and other tooth counts? — The tooth count directly affects gear ratio. A 15T pinion produces a higher gear ratio (more speed) than a 17T or 19T pinion, whilst lower counts like 13T or 12T would produce even higher ratios. The 15T represents an excellent all-purpose choice balancing acceleration and top speed across most racing and recreational scenarios.
