This is an essential upgrade for anyone serious about optimising their RC car UK setup, whether you're running a 48 DP equipped buggy, touring car, or short course truck.
What sets this pinion apart from standard alternatives is the combination of European manufacturing excellence, CNC precision machining, and the proven performance heritage of Team Corally. RC enthusiasts who demand the best will appreciate how this component transforms your vehicle's performance characteristics, allowing you to extract every ounce of speed and acceleration from your brushless motor system.
Key Features
- 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This aerospace-grade aluminium alloy is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, meaning the pinion delivers maximum durability without adding unnecessary weight to your RC car. The hard anodised coating provides superior surface hardness and corrosion resistance, extending the lifespan of your gear even under intense racing conditions.
- CNC Cut Teeth with Perfect Concentricity — Every tooth is machined to ultra-precise tolerances on a specialised gear cutting machine, ensuring perfect tooth shaping and perfect concentricity. This precision manufacturing eliminates run-out and vibration, resulting in smoother power delivery and quieter operation compared to stamped or lower-quality gears.
- Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The precision engineering means this pinion runs with virtually no wobble or vibration, which translates directly to smoother acceleration, better traction control, and improved overall handling characteristics for your RC car.
- 14-Tooth Configuration for Optimised Gearing — The 14-tooth design provides a specific gear ratio that offers the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed for many track conditions. Team Corally offers this pinion in all gearing sizes, allowing you to dial in the exact ratio your setup needs.
- 3.17mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — Designed to fit directly onto standard 3.17mm motor shafts, this pinion integrates seamlessly with all brushless and brushed motor systems using this shaft diameter, making it a universal upgrade for most 48 DP RC cars.
- Module 48 DP Specification — The 48 DP (diametral pitch) rating means this pinion meshes perfectly with 48 DP spur gears and is compatible with all 48 DP geared RC cars currently on the market. This ensures correct gear mesh, optimal power transmission, and minimal energy loss.
- Easy Identification and Maintenance — Each pinion is laser-marked with the tooth number for quick and easy identification, eliminating confusion when swapping gears or building multiple setups. The 1.5mm hex key socket allows for tool-free adjustment and replacement.
- Made in Europe — Manufactured to strict European quality standards, this pinion represents the pinnacle of continental RC engineering, with rigorous quality control at every manufacturing stage.
Technical Performance
This pinion gear represents the cutting edge of RC car drivetrain technology, engineered specifically for high-performance applications where precision and reliability are non-negotiable. The 7075 T6 aluminium alloy used in construction is the same material specification found in high-end aerospace applications, providing exceptional hardness and fatigue resistance whilst maintaining a lightweight profile. When combined with the hard anodised coating, the pinion achieves a surface hardness rating that substantially exceeds standard aluminium gears, meaning it can withstand repeated engagement with your spur gear without degradation. The CNC machining process creates teeth with perfect involute profiles and zero concentricity run-out, critical factors that directly impact how efficiently your brushless motor's power transfers to the wheels. With a 4.00mm teeth width and 9.00mm overall gear length, this short-profile pinion integrates cleanly into most drivetrain assemblies without interference. The 3.17mm shaft diameter accommodates standard 540-class and other common brushless motor sizes used in competitive RC cars across the UK. Whether you're running a high-powered brushless motor or a traditional brushed unit, this 14-tooth configuration provides acceleration characteristics suitable for most track conditions, with the option to select different tooth counts to fine-tune your specific performance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 48 DP and other pitch specifications for RC car gears? — The DP (diametral pitch) specification determines the tooth size and spacing of the gear. 48 DP gears have finer, more closely-spaced teeth compared to lower DP numbers like 32 DP. This means 48 DP gears offer higher precision, quieter operation, and better power transmission efficiency, making them the preferred choice for competitive RC racing where performance margins are critical.
- Is this pinion suitable for beginner RC car owners? — Whilst this pinion is engineered for high-performance applications and competitive use, beginners can certainly use it as an upgrade to their ready to run RC car. However, beginners should understand that pinion gear selection is tied to gearing ratios, and changing your pinion will affect your car's acceleration and top speed. It's recommended to consult with experienced RC enthusiasts or your local RC hobby shop to ensure you select the correct tooth count for your specific motor and spur gear combination.
- What motor size does this pinion fit? — This pinion is designed for motors with a 3.17mm shaft diameter, which is the standard shaft size found on most brushless motors in RC cars, including common 540-class brushless units and many other motor types. The 3.17mm specification is virtually universal across modern RC car motors, making this pinion compatible with the vast majority of RC cars currently in use in the UK.
- How do I know if 14 teeth is the right pinion size for my RC car? — The correct pinion tooth count depends on your motor KV rating, battery voltage, spur gear teeth, and the type of track you're racing on. Higher tooth counts (more teeth) provide better top speed but lower acceleration, whilst lower tooth counts provide more acceleration but lower top speed. Most RC car setups use pinions ranging from 12 to 18 teeth. We recommend consulting the manufacturer's gearing recommendations for your specific motor and spur gear combination, or speaking with our experienced team at RC Model Shop who can help you select the ideal pinion for your exact requirements.
- Why choose hard anodised aluminium over steel gears? — Hard anodised aluminium offers several advantages over steel: significantly reduced weight (important for acceleration and overall vehicle performance), superior corrosion resistance (extending the gear's lifespan in humid UK conditions), and improved heat dissipation. Whilst steel gears are harder, modern hard anodising processes create an aluminium surface that's sufficiently hard for RC racing applications whilst providing better overall performance characteristics.
- How often should I replace this pinion gear? — With proper maintenance, a quality hard anodised pinion like this one will provide thousands of kilometres of trouble-free operation. Replacement becomes necessary only when you notice visible tooth damage, stripping, or when upgrading your gearing ratio. Regular inspection and ensuring proper gear mesh with your spur gear will maximise pinion lifespan.
