Key Features
- 7075 T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Construction — This premium aircraft-grade aluminium alloy is renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, meaning the pinion delivers maximum durability without adding unnecessary mass to your RC drivetrain. The hard anodising process creates a protective surface layer that resists wear, corrosion and damage from repeated engagement with your spur gear, extending the operational lifespan of both components significantly.
- CNC Cut Teeth for Perfect Tooth Shape and Concentricity — Modern CNC machining ensures every tooth is cut to exact specifications with perfect geometry and precise concentricity, eliminating the micro-vibrations and noise that can result from poorly manufactured gears. This precision engineering translates directly into smoother power delivery, reduced drivetrain stress, and more consistent lap times on the track.
- Ultra-Precise Tooth Shaping — Each tooth profile is engineered on specialised gear-cutting machinery to ensure optimal contact with your spur gear, minimising backlash and maximising power transfer efficiency across your RC car's drivetrain.
- Ultra-True Running for Vibration-Free Operation — The combination of CNC precision and hard anodising creates a gear that runs with minimal runout, delivering smooth, vibration-free performance that feels noticeably smoother than standard pinions. This is particularly important in competitive RC racing where vibration can affect handling feel and traction control.
- Tooth Number Marking — Each pinion is clearly marked with its tooth count (13T in this case) on the surface, eliminating any confusion during setup changes, storage or spare parts management. This simple but invaluable feature saves time and prevents costly mistakes when adjusting your RC car's gear ratio.
- Wide Compatibility with 48 DP Geared Cars — Available in multiple tooth counts across the entire 48 DP range, this 13-tooth pinion allows you to achieve the perfect gear ratio for your specific track conditions, driving style and motor setup. Whether you need more acceleration or top speed, Corally's complete pinion range makes gearing adjustments straightforward and affordable.
Technical Performance
The Corally C-70413 pinion represents the pinnacle of gear manufacturing quality available to RC enthusiasts in the UK market. Machined from 7075 T6 hard-anodised aluminium, this material selection is not arbitrary—7075 T6 is the same aerospace-grade alloy used in aircraft landing gear and high-stress applications, testament to its exceptional strength characteristics. The hard-anodising process adds a microscopic protective layer measured in thousandths of a millimetre, yet this coating dramatically improves surface hardness and wear resistance compared to standard anodising. With 13 teeth and a 48 DP pitch (approximately 2.03mm module), this pinion is engineered specifically for 3.17mm motor shafts, ensuring a secure, interference-free fit that won't slip under full acceleration or slip during aggressive cornering. The gear width of 4.0mm provides optimal contact surface with standard 48 DP spur gears, whilst the 9.0mm overall length positions the pinion perfectly for most brushless motor installations without interference with your RC car's chassis or suspension. The small 1.5mm hex key required for installation makes adjustment and replacement quick and tool-efficient. When paired with larger spur gears, this 13-tooth pinion will boost acceleration and torque delivery, making it ideal for tight, technical tracks requiring rapid corner exit speeds. The manufacturing precision—with tolerances measured in fractions of a millimetre—ensures consistent performance across your entire RC season, whether you're competing at weekend races, bashing on local tracks or fine-tuning your setup for maximum performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a 48 DP pinion and why does my RC car need one? — A 48 DP pinion is a small drive gear that attaches to your brushless motor shaft and meshes with a larger spur gear on your RC car's transmission. The 48 DP specification refers to the diametral pitch—essentially the gear size standard. The pinion is the driving force that transfers rotational power from your motor to the drivetrain. The tooth count (13 teeth in this case) directly determines your RC car's gear ratio when paired with a specific spur gear. A smaller pinion (fewer teeth) increases acceleration but reduces top speed; a larger pinion (more teeth) does the opposite. This Corally pinion allows precise gearing adjustments to match your track layout and driving style.
- Is the 13-tooth pinion suitable for beginners? — Whilst this pinion is manufactured to professional-grade specifications that will last many seasons of use, beginners should ensure they understand their RC car's complete drivetrain setup before purchasing. Gear ratio selection requires knowledge of your spur gear size, motor KV rating and intended track conditions. We recommend speaking with our expert team at RC Model Shop if you're uncertain about which tooth count is correct for your specific RC car model. That said, once installed, this pinion operates identically to any other quality pinion—no special maintenance or expertise is required for daily use.
- What motor shaft diameter does this pinion fit? — This Corally pinion is specifically engineered for 3.17mm motor shafts, which is the industry-standard size for most 1/10 scale brushless RC motors. The 3.17mm diameter (often referred to as 1/8 inch in imperial measurements) is the most common shaft specification across Corally, Team Associated, TLR Racing and most other major RC car manufacturers' brushless motors. Always verify your motor's shaft diameter before purchasing to ensure correct fitment.
- Can I use this pinion with any 48 DP spur gear? — Yes, any 48 DP spur gear with a compatible bore size will mesh correctly with this pinion. However, your specific RC car model is typically designed around a particular spur gear size for optimal performance. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact our team at RC Model Shop to identify the correct spur gear for your chassis. Mixing different DP specifications (e.g., 48 DP pinion with a 64 DP spur) will result in poor mesh, rapid wear and potential drivetrain failure.
- How does hard anodising improve the pinion's performance? — Hard anodising is an electrochemical surface treatment that creates an extremely tough, wear-resistant coating on the aluminium surface. Compared to standard anodising, hard anodising produces a much denser, harder surface layer that resists the micro-scoring and wear that occurs as the pinion teeth engage repeatedly with your spur gear during racing. This extended surface life means your pinion maintains precise tooth geometry longer, resulting in consistent performance throughout an entire racing season and reduced replacement costs over time.
- What's the difference between this Corally pinion and cheaper alternatives? — The primary differences centre on manufacturing precision and material quality. This Corally pinion is CNC-machined using specialised gear-cutting equipment, resulting in perfect tooth geometry and minimal runout. The 7075 T6 hard-anodised aluminium is considerably stronger and more wear-resistant than lower-grade aluminium alloys used in budget gears. These differences are often invisible to the naked eye but translate into noticeably smoother drivetrain operation, reduced vibration, longer gear life, and more consistent on-track performance. For competitive racers and serious enthusiasts, the superior durability and precision justify the investment; casual bashers may find budget alternatives adequate, though they typically require replacement more frequently.
- Does this pinion come with installation instructions? — This pinion is designed to be installed identically to any other 48 DP pinion. The installation process is straightforward: slide the pinion onto your motor shaft, align it with your spur gear, and secure it using the motor's retaining components. Your RC car's manual should provide detailed installation guidance. The 1.5mm hex key mentioned in the specifications refers to the hex recess in the set screw that typically secures the pinion to the motor shaft. If you're unfamiliar with this process, our team at RC Model Shop is happy to provide guidance.
- How many teeth should I choose for my track? — Gear ratio selection depends on three factors: motor KV rating, spur gear size, and track characteristics. Higher tooth counts increase top speed but reduce acceleration; lower tooth counts do the opposite. Tight, technical tracks with frequent corners typically benefit from lower tooth counts (more acceleration), whilst high-speed tracks prefer higher tooth counts (more top speed). This C-70413 13-tooth pinion is a popular mid-range option; Corally manufactures this model in multiple tooth counts to accommodate different setups. Contact our team to discuss which tooth count best suits your specific motor, spur gear and track layout.
