Technical Performance

The Corally Shock Absorber 'Ready Built' represents the pinnacle of suspension engineering for modern off-road RC cars. The 600 cps silicone oil specification provides the ideal viscosity for responsive yet controlled damping across a wide range of driving conditions and vehicle weights. This oil thickness is particularly effective for the 6S LiPo-powered Corally models, where the increased power demands a suspension system capable of handling more aggressive driving dynamics without bottoming out or becoming unstable. The precision CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminium construction ensures that every component maintains perfect tolerances, resulting in consistent piston rod movement and predictable suspension response. Hard-anodising the aluminium body provides protection against corrosion and abrasion, critical for vehicles that may encounter wet terrain or sandy environments during recreational bashing sessions or competitive racing. The engineering philosophy behind this shock prioritises reliability and ease of use—by pre-filling the shock with the optimally-selected oil viscosity, Team Corally has eliminated the guesswork from suspension tuning and ensured that UK RC enthusiasts can achieve excellent performance without requiring specialist knowledge or tools. The inclusion of interchangeable shock ends allows drivers to adjust their vehicle's geometry, ride height, and weight distribution, enabling fine-tuning for specific track characteristics or personal driving preferences. For competitive drivers, the consistency of a factory-built shock means reliable baseline performance across multiple vehicles and multiple racing sessions, reducing setup variables and allowing drivers to focus on improving their driving technique rather than troubleshooting suspension issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Corally shock absorber ready built suitable for beginners and experienced drivers alike? — Absolutely. The 'Ready Built' design makes this an excellent choice for newcomers to RC car racing, as there's no assembly or tuning required—you simply install it and drive. However, the professional engineering and performance characteristics make it equally suitable for experienced racers who appreciate quality components and want reliable suspension without spending hours on setup.
  • What does the 600cps oil specification mean, and why is it important? — CPS (centipoise) is a measurement of oil viscosity or thickness. The 600cps specification means this oil is relatively thick, providing strong damping forces that control the shock's compression and rebound. This viscosity is optimal for most Team Corally vehicles, offering a sweet spot between comfort on bumpy terrain and responsiveness during cornering and jumping. Thicker oil (higher cps) creates more resistance and slower movement, whilst thinner oil (lower cps) allows faster movement and softer damping.
  • Which Corally vehicles is this shock compatible with? — This shock is a direct replacement for the rear shocks on numerous Team Corally models including Kronos XTR (2021 and 2022), Kagama, Radix 6 (2021/2022), Radix 4, Python (2020/2021/2022), Shogun (2020/2021/2022), Muraco (2021/2022), Jambo (2021/2022), Dementor (2020/2021/2022), Punisher 2021, Asuga XLR, and Spark XB6. It's also suitable as a replacement in all four shock positions on the Shiroi and Sketer models. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle variant before purchasing.
  • Do I need to purchase a spring separately, or does the shock include one? — The shock absorber body, oil, and shock cup are included, but the spring is sold separately. Team Corally offers three spring options: Soft (C-00180-286) for smooth terrain and light vehicles, Medium (C-00180-287) for balanced track driving with buggies, and Hard (C-00180-288) which is the recommended standard choice for heavier bashers and especially for 6S-powered vehicles. Choose based on your vehicle's weight, power system, and driving style.
  • What materials are used in the construction of this shock absorber? — The shock body is machined from 6061-T6 aluminium, an aerospace-grade alloy chosen for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and ability to maintain precise tolerances. The surface is hard-anodised, a coating process that significantly hardens the aluminium surface, providing superior wear resistance and corrosion protection. This engineering ensures the shock will perform reliably through countless racing sessions and environmental exposure.
  • Why should I buy a pre-assembled shock rather than building one myself? — Pre-assembled shocks from manufacturers like Team Corally offer several advantages: they eliminate assembly time and potential error, they provide consistent performance since they're built and tested at the factory, and they come with the manufacturer's quality guarantee. For busy racers and those without specialist shock-building tools, a ready-built option represents better value and faster results. The 600cps oil specification has been optimised by Team Corally's engineering team, so you're benefiting from their professional experience rather than guessing at oil viscosity.
  • Can I use different oil viscosities in this shock, or must I use 600cps? — Whilst the shock comes pre-filled with 600cps oil and this is the recommended specification for most Corally vehicles, the shock can technically accommodate different viscosities if you choose to experiment. However, changing the oil requires a complete disassembly, drain, refill, and reassembly process. For most users, the factory 600cps oil represents the optimal choice and should only be changed if you've identified specific performance issues through extensive testing.
  • What is the difference between the short and long shock ends included in the box? — The short and long shock ends allow adjustment of the shock's total length, which affects your vehicle's ride height and suspension geometry. The long end raises the vehicle slightly and changes the suspension mounting geometry for different handling characteristics, whilst the short end lowers the vehicle and may improve aerodynamics or weight distribution. Your vehicle's manual will specify which end is correct for standard geometry, or you can experiment to find your preferred setup once you're familiar with how it affects handling.
  • Is this shock waterproof, and can I use it in wet conditions? — The hard-anodised aluminium construction is corrosion-resistant, making the shock suitable for wet terrain racing. However, after driving in wet conditions, you should rinse the shock with fresh water to prevent salt corrosion (if near the coast) and allow it to dry fully before storage. The internal oil chamber is sealed, so water ingress shouldn't affect damping performance if the shock seals are intact.
  • How does this shock compare to other suspension options available for RC cars in the UK? — Corally shocks are recognised for excellent quality-to-price value, professional engineering, and reliability across a wide range of driving conditions. The 'Ready Built' concept differentiates this offering by eliminating assembly and tuning time. Compared to budget alternatives, Corally shocks offer superior precision machining and material selection; compared to ultra-high-end racing shocks, they offer outstanding value without sacrificing essential performance characteristics. For most UK RC enthusiasts, this represents the sweet spot of quality, performance, and affordability.
