Key Features
- 69-Tooth Design with 48 Pitch Rating — The 69T configuration provides the optimal tooth count for brushless motor systems, while the 48 pitch specification ensures perfect meshing compatibility with smaller pinion gears, allowing you to achieve the ideal gear ratios for acceleration and top speed without sacrificing reliability or drivetrain efficiency.
- Optimised for Brushless Motors — Engineered specifically for 17.5, 13.5, and 10.5 KV brushless motor systems, this spur gear maximises the unique performance characteristics of brushless technology, delivering smoother power delivery and more responsive handling compared to brushed motor alternatives.
- Smaller, Lightweight Design — The compact dimensions reduce unsprung weight and rotating mass, which translates directly to improved acceleration response, faster cornering speeds, and more predictable handling dynamics on any track surface.
- Enables Smaller Pinion Gears — By shifting the motor forward in the chassis, this spur gear design allows the use of smaller pinion gears, which further reduces rotating mass and improves the power-to-weight ratio of your entire drivetrain system.
- Forward Motor Positioning — The innovative geometry positions the motor further forward in the chassis, dramatically improving weight balance and creating a more neutral, predictable handling platform that responds consistently through corners and over jumps.
- Multiple Tooth Counts Available — Team Associated offers this spur gear in 69T, 72T, and 75T configurations at 48 pitch, giving you complete flexibility to fine-tune your gearing strategy for different track conditions and racing styles.
- Genuine Team Associated Manufacturing — Every AS9648 spur gear is manufactured to Team Associated's exacting quality standards using premium materials and precision machining, ensuring longevity and consistent performance throughout your RC racing career.
Technical Performance
The AS9648 represents a masterclass in drivetrain engineering for modern RC cars running brushless motor systems. At 69 teeth with a 48 diametral pitch specification, this spur gear delivers the ideal balance between acceleration and top speed for competitive racing applications. The smaller overall diameter compared to larger gear designs reduces rotational inertia, allowing your brushless motor to accelerate more quickly and respond more responsively to throttle inputs. The precision-cut teeth ensure smooth, quiet mesh with your pinion gear, minimising noise and vibration whilst maximising power transmission efficiency. This component is manufactured from premium materials selected for their durability and resistance to wear, ensuring that your AS9648 spur gear will withstand thousands of laps of hard racing without tooth stripping or premature failure. The forward motor mounting position enabled by this design improves the centre of gravity of your RC10B4, RC10T4, or compatible vehicle, creating a more planted, stable platform that feels more intuitive to drive through complex corner sequences. For UK-based racers running competition-level RC buggies and touring cars, the AS9648 represents an essential upgrade that unlocks the full potential of 17.5, 13.5, and 10.5 brushless motor systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 69T, 72T, and 75T spur gears? — The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's final drive ratio. The 69T provides the most aggressive acceleration profile, ideal for tight technical tracks. The 72T offers a balanced middle ground for mixed track layouts. The 75T delivers the highest top speed potential, perfect for high-speed racing formats. All three are available in 48 pitch from Team Associated.
- Can I use the AS9648 on my RC10B4 running a brushed motor? — No, the AS9648 is specifically optimised for brushless motor systems running 17.5, 13.5, and 10.5 KV configurations. Brushed motor vehicles require different spur gear designs. Always verify motor compatibility before purchasing.
- Will this spur gear fit my older RC10T4.1? — Yes, the AS9648 is fully compatible with RC10T4.1 vehicles, as well as RC10T4 and RC10T4.2 models. Team Associated has maintained excellent chassis compatibility across generations, making upgrade paths straightforward for long-time racers.
- How often should I replace my spur gear? — With proper maintenance and regular cleaning, an AS9648 spur gear should last thousands of competitive laps. Replace it when you notice any tooth damage, chipping, or excessive wear. Regular inspection keeps your drivetrain performing at peak efficiency.
- What pinion gear sizes work best with the 69T AS9648? — The smaller design philosophy enables the use of smaller pinion gears than traditional larger spur gear designs. Smaller pinions further reduce rotating mass and improve acceleration response. Consult your Team Associated manual or your local RC Model Shop team for specific pinion recommendations for your exact chassis and motor configuration.
- Is this spur gear suitable for beginner RC drivers? — The AS9648 is a replacement component rather than a complete RTR kit, so it's best suited for hobbyists already experienced with RC car maintenance and upgrades. Beginners should start with a ready-to-run brushless RC car in the UK before tackling drivetrain modifications.
- Why does moving the motor forward improve handling? — Forward motor positioning shifts the vehicle's centre of gravity forward, creating better weight distribution and improving traction during acceleration whilst reducing tail-happy oversteer tendencies. This produces a more neutral, predictable handling balance through corners.
- Will upgrading to the AS9648 improve my lap times? — Combined with proper tuning, a correctly-sized spur gear absolutely improves lap times by optimising your acceleration profile for your track layout. The lighter, more responsive drivetrain enabled by this design helps competitors extract maximum performance from their brushless motor system.
