Overview

The Team Associated B74 Lightweight Bodyshell in clear finish is an essential replacement or spare body shell for owners of the legendary RC10B74 1/10 scale 4WD electric off-road buggy. This genuine OEM part from Team Associated delivers the same quality and precision engineering that has made the B74 platform one of the most competitive 4WD buggies in the UK RC racing scene. Whether you're refreshing a worn body after intense competition or keeping a spare shell on hand for race day, this lightweight bodyshell is manufactured to exacting standards and offers the clean, uniform mould that serious racers demand. The clear polycarbonate finish arrives unpainted, giving you the freedom to apply your own colour scheme and personalisation before hitting the track.

For UK RC enthusiasts competing in high-grip carpet and turf racing environments, the B74 has established itself as a platform for winning performances. This replacement bodyshell ensures your buggy maintains its aerodynamic advantages and visual integrity. Supplied as a genuine Associated spare part, it's designed for use across the entire B74 family, including the latest B74.1 and B74.2 variants. The lightweight construction complements the precision engineering of the B74 chassis, which features 7075-T6 aluminium bulkheads, advanced suspension geometry, and quick-change differential systems that have proven competitive at the highest levels of off-road RC racing.

Available now as an in-stock spare from RC Model Shop, this is the OEM choice for B74 owners who refuse to compromise on authenticity and quality.

Key Features

  • Genuine OEM Part — This is the official Team Associated replacement bodyshell for the RC10B74, manufactured to the exact specifications and quality standards of the original kit. Using genuine parts ensures perfect fitment and maintains the integrity of your buggy's design.
  • Lightweight Construction — Engineered specifically as a lightweight variant, this shell reduces unsprung weight and improves handling characteristics, which is critical for competitive racing where every gram matters. The lighter body helps improve acceleration, braking response, and overall agility on carpet and turf tracks.
  • Clear Polycarbonate Finish — The unpainted clear shell allows complete freedom for customisation and personalisation. You can apply your own colour scheme using polycarbonate-specific spray paint, creating a unique look that matches your team colours or personal preference. Clear shells also allow the internal chassis and components to be visible, which many racers appreciate for aesthetics and technical inspections.
  • Perfect Fitment on B74 Platform — Designed specifically for the RC10B74, RC10B74.1, and RC10B74.2 chassis variants, this shell guarantees perfect alignment with mounting points, body clips, and overall aerodynamics. No modifications or adjustments are needed—simply install and paint.
  • Clean, Uniform Mould — Team Associated's precision manufacturing ensures a clean mould free from defects, requiring minimal trimming and preparation. This reduces setup time and allows you to focus on tuning your chassis rather than spending hours finishing the body.
  • Race-Ready Alternative — Whether you've damaged your original shell in a crash, worn it out through heavy use, or simply need a backup for multi-round competitions, this lightweight bodyshell keeps you racing without compromising performance or authenticity.
  • Compatibility Across B74 Generations — Works seamlessly with the standard B74, the updated B74.1, and the latest B74.2 variants, making it a versatile spare for anyone with multiple generations of this legendary platform.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated B74 Lightweight Bodyshell represents precision polycarbonate moulding optimised for competitive 4WD off-road racing. Built from durable polycarbonate material, the shell is designed to absorb impacts and flex without cracking, protecting the underlying chassis and drivetrain during inevitable crashes at high speeds. The clear finish means the bodyshell weighs less than painted alternatives, contributing to the overall weight reduction that is critical in high-grip carpet and turf racing environments where every kilogram of mass affects acceleration and cornering performance. The mould is designed to complement the RC10B74's 395mm wheelbase and optimised chassis geometry, with body mounting points that align perfectly with the 7075-T6 aluminium structural elements and the advanced suspension system featuring 12mm big bore shocks with increased stroke length. The shell's aerodynamic profile has been proven through competitive racing at indoor nationals and outdoor championships, with professional setup sheets available from Team Associated demonstrating optimal body trim and angle for different track surfaces and grip levels. When finished with polycarbonate-specific spray paint and equipped with the included clear wing (if applicable to your configuration), the B74 bodyshell delivers the visual aggression and technical credibility that defines modern competitive 1/10 scale 4WD buggies. The lightweight variant specifically reduces the unsprung mass compared to the standard B74 body, which measurably improves suspension compliance and handling consistency on both smooth carpet and more challenging astroturf surfaces, making it the preferred choice for serious competitors in the UK RC racing scene.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Team Associated B74 Lightweight Bodyshell compatible with all B74 variants? — Yes, this shell is designed to work perfectly with the RC10B74, RC10B74.1, and RC10B74.2 chassis platforms. The mounting points and overall dimensions are identical across these generations, making it a universal spare for any B74 owner. It has been tested and verified to fit seamlessly on all current and previous B74 variants.
  • What paint should I use on the clear polycarbonate bodyshell? — You must use polycarbonate-specific spray paint designed for RC bodywork. Standard automotive or model paints may not adhere properly or may crack and peel. Team Associated and specialist RC suppliers offer polycarbonate paints in a wide range of colours specifically formulated for this material. Apply thin, even coats and allow proper drying time between applications.
  • How does the lightweight version compare to the standard B74 bodyshell? — The lightweight variant reduces shell weight through optimised polycarbonate thickness and moulding, maintaining structural integrity whilst minimising unsprung mass. In competitive racing, particularly on high-grip carpet and turf tracks, every gram reduction in bodywork weight improves suspension response, acceleration, and cornering performance. Serious competitors prefer the lightweight version for its measurable performance advantages.
  • What tools do I need to finish and fit the bodyshell? — You'll need a hobby knife for basic trimming, polycarbonate-specific scissors (Team Associated #1737) for cleaner cuts, and a body reamer (#1499) for drilling accurate mounting holes. A precision ruler or calipers helps ensure correct hole placement. Some racers also use a heat gun to slightly warm polycarbonate before detailed trimming, allowing the material to flex without cracking.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst the bodyshell itself is straightforward to install, finishing and painting a clear polycarbonate shell requires patience and attention to detail. Beginners should expect a learning curve with paint application, but the process is rewarding and allows complete creative freedom. Many beginners find their first body-painting project on a spare shell (rather than the main race body) helps develop the skills needed for professional-looking results.
  • Why would I need a spare B74 bodyshell? — In competitive racing, bodyshells inevitably suffer damage from crashes, impacts, and wear. Having a painted spare allows you to continue racing whilst repairing your primary shell, or to switch shells between race sessions. Many competitors maintain multiple painted shells in different colour schemes for team events or personal preference, using spares like this to expand their options without committing to a full new kit.
  • Can I use this shell on a used or secondhand B74 chassis? — Absolutely. The B74 platform has remained consistent in its body mounting geometry since the original release, so a new lightweight shell will fit perfectly on any generation of B74 chassis, whether brand new or several years old. This makes it an excellent upgrade for racers who already own a B74 and want to refresh their setup.
  • How long does it take to prepare and paint the bodyshell? — Preparation typically takes 30–60 minutes depending on trimming requirements. Painting depends on your technique and paint type, but allow several hours for multiple thin coats with drying time between applications. Most racers dedicate an evening or afternoon to bodywork finishing, planning well in advance of competition dates.
