Overview
The Team Associated B6.3 Rear Wide Shock Tower Carbon Fibre (AS91881) is a genuine spare part designed for the RC10B6.3 and RC10B6.3D competition 1/10 scale 2WD RC buggies. This precision-engineered carbon fibre component is an essential upgrade or replacement part for serious racers and hobbyists who demand durability, performance and reliability from their RC car UK setups. Whether you're maintaining your racing buggy, upgrading from an older configuration, or building a complete rear-wide platform, this shock tower delivers the engineering excellence that Team Associated is renowned for across the RC car community.
The rear-wide shock tower is specifically engineered to work with the B6.3's innovative wide-pivot rear end design, which introduces improved geometry and stiffness characteristics that directly translate to more predictable rear traction and an easy-to-drive rear-end feel during competitive racing. Team Associated's commitment to refinement means this component has been developed as part of the B6.3 platform's comprehensive engineering improvements, which also addressed durability concerns such as bending wing mounts, steering bellcrank screw breakage, and excessive steering linkage play that plagued previous generations.
For UK RC enthusiasts and competitive racers, the AS91881 represents the authentic path to maintaining or upgrading your B6.3 buggy to its full potential. Carbon fibre construction provides the perfect balance of lightweight strength and rigidity, essential characteristics for high-traction clay track racing where chassis stiffness directly impacts handling precision and consistency throughout a race.
Key Features
- Carbon Fibre Construction — The shock tower is manufactured from carbon fibre, providing exceptional strength-to-weight ratio that minimises unsprung mass whilst maintaining the rigidity required for competitive 1/10 scale 2WD racing at UK tracks and internationally recognised events.
- Rear-Wide Configuration Compatibility — Engineered specifically for the B6.3's new wide-pivot rear arm mounts that utilise 73mm arms and 69mm CVA bones, this shock tower integrates seamlessly with the platform's improved rear traction geometry for more predictable handling characteristics.
- Precision Engineering — Manufactured to Team Associated's exacting standards, the shock tower features fine hole spacing adjustment that allows detailed tuning of your buggy's suspension geometry and ride height for optimised performance on high-traction carpet and astroturf surfaces.
- Enhanced Durability Design — The refined shock tower design incorporates lessons learned from the B6 platform's evolution, featuring improved structural geometry that resists the bending and stress issues that affected earlier generations of RC buggies.
- Track-Proven Engineering — This component is derived from the complete B6.3 race kit platform, which features an all-new wide-pivot rear end system with aluminium arm mounts and new servo mounting systems that have been optimised for competitive racing from the box.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated AS91881 rear wide shock tower exemplifies the precision engineering that defines the B6.3 platform. The carbon fibre construction delivers optimal rigidity whilst keeping weight to an absolute minimum — a critical consideration for 1/10 scale competitive racing where every fraction of a gram impacts acceleration, braking and directional stability. The shock tower integrates with the B6.3's 12mm Big Bore threaded aluminium shocks, which feature X-rings for low-friction assembly and machined shock pistons for smoother operation. The tower's fine hole spacing allows precise adjustment of shock mounting positions, enabling tuners to fine-tune suspension geometry for varying track conditions and driving styles. The rear-wide configuration works in concert with the platform's symmetric rear arms (available in 73mm and 75mm lengths, with 73mm included in the complete kit) that feature improved geometry and stiffness, allowing the arms to be flipped for flexible rear shock mounting positions. The B6.3 platform incorporates a new integrated transponder mount and set screw plus flanged nut rear bottom shock mounting hardware for quick and easy shock removal during pit stops — critical features for competitive racing. The overall chassis has been extended by 3mm versus previous generations for additional stability and reduced weight transfer in high-traction conditions. When combined with the platform's fluid-filled gear differential and front and rear anti-roll bars, the shock tower becomes part of a comprehensively engineered system designed for consistent performance on high-grip clay track surfaces where precision and durability are non-negotiable.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Team Associated B6.3 rear wide shock tower compatible with older B6 models? — No, this shock tower is specifically engineered for the B6.3 platform and its new wide-pivot rear end configuration with 73mm arms and 69mm CVA bones. The B6.3 represents a significant engineering evolution with refined geometry and improved durability, so it is not directly compatible with earlier B6 variants. Always refer to your model's manual or setup sheet to confirm the rear-wide style is required for your specific B6.3 variant.
- What is the difference between the rear-wide and other B6.3 shock tower configurations? — The rear-wide configuration works with Team Associated's new wide-pivot rear arm mounts that provide more predictable rear traction and an easy-to-drive rear-end feel. The B6.3 platform introduced two separate chassis configurations, each optimised for different racing conditions and driver preferences. The rear-wide setup is designed for maximum traction and stability on high-grip surfaces.
- Can I use this shock tower as a spare part if I damage my original? — Yes, the AS91881 is an ideal replacement component if your original shock tower becomes damaged or bent. Carbon fibre can occasionally suffer impact damage during crashes or rough handling, and having a genuine spare ensures you can quickly return to racing without compromising performance or safety.
- What maintenance does the carbon fibre shock tower require? — Carbon fibre components require minimal maintenance. Regular inspection for cracks or impact damage is recommended, particularly after heavy crashes. Clean the tower periodically with mild soap and water to remove dirt and debris. Store the complete buggy in a dry environment to prevent moisture accumulation.
- Is this part suitable for beginners? — This is a spare/replacement component rather than a complete vehicle, making it suitable primarily for existing B6.3 owners requiring maintenance or upgrades rather than newcomers to RC car racing. However, beginners interested in competitive 2WD buggy racing should consider the complete RC10B6.3 kit, which includes this shock tower as part of its comprehensive platform.
