This is an essential suspension component for any RC enthusiast in the UK looking to fine-tune their vehicle's handling characteristics and ride quality. Whether you're a competitive racer or a weekend basher, having the correct spring rate is crucial for achieving optimal suspension performance on your Associated RC platform.

This authentic Associated spare part offers a straightforward solution for suspension tuning without the complexity of more advanced setups. The 54mm length and 3.75 lb spring rate combination provides a balanced approach to suspension geometry and compliance, making it suitable for a variety of track conditions and driving styles. If you're running an Associated RC10SC5M, RC10T4.2, or RC10T5M, this spring is an ideal replacement or upgrade option to maintain your vehicle's competitive edge.

RC car suspension tuning is one of the most important aspects of getting your vehicle to perform at its best, and choosing the correct spring rate is fundamental to this process. The Associated 12mm Big Bore Spring allows you to experiment with different stiffness levels to match your track conditions, driving style, and vehicle weight setup. Key Features

  • 12mm Big Bore Compatibility — This spring is specifically engineered to work with 12mm big bore shock dampers, which are found on many modern Associated competition vehicles, ensuring perfect fitment and consistent performance without the need for adapters or modifications.
  • 54mm Length — The 54mm length is precisely calculated to work with the suspension geometry of compatible Associated platforms, maintaining the correct ride height and anti-squat characteristics essential for optimal handling.
  • 3.75 lb Spring Rate — This moderate spring rate offers a balance between compliance and support, making it versatile enough for various track surfaces whilst still providing the structural support needed for aggressive driving and jumping.
  • Genuine Associated Component — Being an authentic OEM part, this spring meets all factory specifications and quality standards, guaranteeing reliability and longevity compared to aftermarket alternatives.
  • Easy Installation — The simple design allows for quick installation into your big bore shock cartridges without requiring specialised tools or technical expertise, making suspension tuning accessible to all skill levels.
  • Fine-Tuning Capability — By offering a specific spring rate, this component enables drivers to systematically adjust their suspension setup to match changing track conditions or personal driving preferences throughout a race season.

Technical Performance

The Associated 12mm Big Bore Spring 54mm 3.75lb represents quality engineering in shock spring design, manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure consistent performance across multiple vehicles and extended use. The 3.75 lb rating falls within the mid-range of spring stiffness options, making it ideal for drivers who want a responsive yet compliant suspension setup. This spring rate is particularly effective on mixed-surface tracks where neither excessive softness nor extreme stiffness is required. The 54mm length has been specifically engineered to work within the spring compression stroke of Associated big bore dampers, maintaining proper spring preload and avoiding bottoming out during aggressive landings or high-speed compressions. The material composition and manufacturing process ensure that the spring maintains its rate consistency over time, resisting the fatigue and relaxation that can occur with lower-quality springs. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK looking to maintain their vehicles in peak condition, using genuine OEM springs like this AS91635 component is essential for preserving the intended performance characteristics of your platform and ensuring your investment in your RC car continues to deliver reliable results on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Associated RC cars and trucks is this spring compatible with? — The Associated 12mm Big Bore Spring 54mm 3.75lb (AS91635) is designed for use with the RC10SC5M short course truck, the RC10T4.2 touring car, and the RC10T5M touring platform. These vehicles all utilise 12mm big bore shock dampers as standard, making this spring a direct fit replacement or upgrade component for suspension tuning on these models.
  • How do I know which spring rate I need for my RC car? — Spring rate selection depends on several factors including your vehicle weight, driving style, track surface, and personal preference for suspension feel. The 3.75 lb rating in this spring is considered a mid-range option suitable for mixed conditions. If your vehicle feels too soft and bottoms out easily, a stiffer spring like a 4.25 or 4.75 lb would be appropriate. Conversely, if the suspension feels too stiff and doesn't absorb bumps well, a softer option like 3.25 or 3.5 lb might be better. Many drivers keep several spring rates on hand to adjust their setup as conditions change throughout a race season.
  • Is this a genuine Associated part or an aftermarket copy? — This is a genuine OEM Associated component, as indicated by the authentic part number AS91635. Genuine parts like this are manufactured to factory specifications and quality standards, ensuring consistent performance and reliability. When you purchase genuine Associated spares from RC Model Shop, you can be confident you're getting authentic components that will perform exactly as the vehicle's designers intended.
  • What is the difference between a 3.75 lb spring and other available rates? — Spring rates in RC vehicles are measured in pounds per inch (lb/in), indicating the force required to compress the spring one inch. A 3.75 lb spring is softer and more compliant than higher-rated springs like 4.25 or 4.75 lb, meaning it compresses more easily and absorbs bumps better. It's stiffer than lower-rated springs like 3.25 or 3.5 lb, providing more support and resisting bottoming out during aggressive driving. The 3.75 lb rating makes an excellent all-round choice for recreational and competitive drivers who want a balanced suspension setup without excessive complexity.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Shock springs can last a very long time under normal use, typically lasting for multiple seasons of racing or casual bashing. However, springs can lose their rate consistency over time due to metal fatigue, especially if they've been compressed repeatedly or exposed to extreme temperatures. Signs that a spring may need replacement include noticeably softer suspension feel than when new, difficulty maintaining consistent ride height, or visible signs of rust or damage. Many competitive drivers replace springs periodically as part of scheduled maintenance to ensure optimal performance consistency.
  • Can I use this spring in shocks other than the ones listed as compatible? — This spring is specifically designed for 12mm big bore shock cartridges, so it will only fit dampers with this bore size. Using it in incompatible shocks could result in poor fitment, inadequate spring preload, or damage to the shock. Always verify compatibility with your specific vehicle platform before purchasing suspension components, and consult your vehicle's manual if you're uncertain about your damper specifications.
