Overview

The Associated FT 12mm Pistons V2 2 x 1.6mm Flat (Screw Mount) AS91626 are precision-engineered shock pistons designed for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're competing in off-road racing or enjoying weekend bashing with your RC car, these pistons deliver the performance upgrade your suspension system needs. Built by Associated Electrics, a recognised leader in RC components and vehicles, these pistons represent the pinnacle of shock tuning technology for 1/10 scale RC buggies, trucks and racing vehicles.

These V2 screw-mounted pistons are an essential upgrade for anyone looking to fine-tune their RC vehicle's suspension characteristics. Compatible with a vast range of Associated models—from the legendary RC10 series to the modern RC10B6, SC10 and beyond—these pistons allow you to adjust your shock response with precision. The flat V2 design offers superior performance compared to earlier generations, making them the preferred choice for RC racers who demand reliability and consistency run after run.

If you're seeking to optimise your RC car UK setup or exploring suspension tuning for the first time, the FT 12mm Pistons V2 provide an affordable way to significantly improve your vehicle's handling and performance characteristics. Available now from RC Model Shop, these pistons come with the quality assurance you'd expect from an authorised Associated retailer.

Key Features

  • Machined Precision Engineering — Each piston is machined for an exact fit and finish, ensuring perfect compatibility with your shock absorbers and eliminating any wobble or inconsistency that could affect your RC car's handling on the track or trail.
  • Premium Delrin Construction — Manufactured from high-quality Delrin, a recognised engineering polymer that combines durability with smooth operation, resisting wear and maintaining consistent performance across hundreds of runs.
  • Large Edge Radiuses — The pistons feature generously radiused edges that promote the smoothest possible shock action, reducing friction and allowing your suspension to respond instantly to terrain changes without binding or sticking.
  • V2 Screw-Mount Design — These are genuine V2 generation screw-mounted pistons, meaning they secure using a threaded fastener method that ensures they remain locked in position during aggressive driving, unlike older E-clip style pistons which have been superseded.
  • Flat Both Sides — The flat profile on both surfaces creates a consistent piston face, improving suspension damping characteristics and providing predictable shock response in all driving conditions.
  • Two 1.6mm Diameter Holes — The precision-drilled 1.6mm holes allow fluid to pass through at a controlled rate, and this hole diameter is the key tuning parameter; you can experiment with different hole sizes to dial in your suspension feel.
  • 12mm Diameter Standard — Designed for standard 12mm shock applications across the entire Associated model line-up, making these pistons a drop-in upgrade for your existing shocks.
  • Not Compatible with E-Clip Pistons — These V2 pistons use screw-mount technology and are expressly not compatible with older E-clip style pistons, so ensure your shocks feature screw-mount bores before purchasing.
  • Customisation Ready — Associated also produces blank piston options separately, allowing advanced tuners to machine their own custom hole patterns and diameters for ultimate suspension tuning capability.
  • Bulk Quantity Package — Each pack contains four individual pistons (two pairs), giving you spares for multiple shocks or the ability to try different configurations across your suspension setup.

Technical Performance

The Associated FT 12mm Pistons V2 represent the latest generation in shock tuning technology for 1/10 scale RC vehicles. Machined from premium Delrin, these pistons deliver the engineering precision that serious racers demand. At 2.5mm thickness, they provide robust strength whilst maintaining the lightweight characteristics essential for responsive suspension action. The two 1.6mm diameter holes are the critical tuning variable—fluid flows through these passages at a controlled rate, damping your suspension and controlling how quickly the shocks compress and extend. The large radiuses on all edges eliminate sharp corners that could cause friction, creating buttery-smooth shock action that translates directly into improved handling on technical courses. These V2 screw-mounted pistons are the current standard across the Associated model range, including compatibility with the RC10B6, RC10B5, RC10T6, SC10, and numerous other platforms. The precision machining ensures zero play between the piston and shock shaft, eliminating any side-to-side movement that could create unpredictable handling. Whether you're running in high-grip indoor carpet conditions, loose outdoor dirt, or wet terrain, having the ability to fine-tune your suspension through piston hole selection is fundamental to competitive RC racing in the UK and beyond.

What's in the Box

  • 4 x FT 12mm Pistons V2 (2.5mm thickness, flat both sides)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between V2 screw-mount pistons and older E-clip pistons? — V2 screw-mounted pistons represent the current generation technology, securing using a threaded fastener method that provides superior holding strength and eliminates any risk of the piston shifting during aggressive driving. Older E-clip style pistons used a spring clip for retention, which is why these V2 pistons are not backwards-compatible. If your shocks feature E-clip bores, you'll need E-clip style pistons instead.
  • How do I use these pistons to tune my suspension? — The 1.6mm holes are your primary tuning parameter. These holes control how quickly fluid flows through the piston, which directly affects how your shocks respond. Smaller holes create a stiffer, more controlled feel; larger holes allow more fluid flow and create a softer, more compliant suspension. You can experiment with different piston hole sizes to find the perfect setup for your driving style and track conditions.
  • Are these suitable for beginners? — Yes, these pistons are suitable for drivers of all experience levels. Beginners can simply install the included 1.6mm pistons and enjoy significantly improved suspension performance. As you progress, you'll gain the knowledge to experiment with different hole sizes to further refine your setup. Many UK RC clubs and racing venues use these exact pistons as their standard specification.
  • How many shocks will one pack of pistons service? — Each pack contains four pistons (sufficient for two complete four-shock setups). If you're upgrading a single vehicle with four shocks, you'll need one pack. If you're servicing multiple vehicles or want to keep spares on hand, you may want to order multiple packs.
  • Can I use these pistons on any Associated model? — These pistons are designed for Associated vehicles equipped with 12mm screw-mount shocks. The compatibility list is extensive, covering most modern and vintage Associated buggy, truck and truggy models from the past two decades. Check your shock bores to confirm they feature screw-mount threads rather than E-clip retention.
  • What makes these pistons better than standard ones? — The V2 designation indicates these are the current generation design, featuring improved edge radiuses and precision machining that ensures smooth, consistent shock action. The large radiuses eliminate friction points that could cause binding, whilst the precision engineering guarantees perfect compatibility with your shock bores.
  • Do I need any special tools to install these pistons? — Installation requires only basic tools—typically an appropriately-sized hex wrench or screwdriver to remove the fastener securing your current piston. Once removed, simply thread the new piston in place and tighten securely. Always ensure the piston is firmly seated to prevent any risk of it coming loose during operation.
