Overview
The Associated FT 12x27.5 V2 Shock Bodies with Kashima Coat (AS91577) represent a premium upgrade for serious RC car enthusiasts in the UK looking to enhance their suspension performance. These genuinely Kashima-coated shock bodies bring factory-level suspension technology to your RC vehicle, delivering the same smooth, silky action found on professional FOX Factory Series forks and shocks. Whether you're competing at the track or pushing your RC car to its limits during weekend bashing sessions, these shock bodies offer a significant performance upgrade that will be immediately noticeable in how your vehicle handles bumps, jumps and corners.
Kashima coating is a specialist surface treatment developed by FOX that dramatically reduces friction between moving parts, resulting in noticeably smoother shock action and extended component life. This isn't a budget upgrade — these are genuine FOX Kashima-coated components that bring professional-grade suspension technology to your RC car. The V2 design represents the latest generation of Associated shock body engineering, combining proven performance with modern surface technology to give you competitive advantage on the track or improved handling during recreational driving.
Available now at RC Model Shop, these shock bodies are an essential upgrade for RC10T5M owners and fit any Associated RC car that requires 12mm inside diameter shocks with 27.5mm stroke. When you're shopping for RC car suspension upgrades online in the UK, genuine Kashima-coated components like these represent the gold standard in performance and durability.
Key Features
- Genuine FOX Kashima Coat finish — These shock bodies feature the same ultra-smooth Kashima coating found on high-end FOX Factory Series forks and shocks, which dramatically reduces friction and binding in the shock action, providing noticeably smoother suspension response and extended service life compared to standard uncoated shock bodies.
- 12mm inside diameter bore — The 12mm internal diameter is a standard size for many Associated RC cars, ensuring compatibility with appropriate shock shafts and providing optimal fluid dynamics for smooth, consistent shock performance across different driving conditions.
- 27.5mm stroke specification — The 27.5mm stroke (up-and-down movement) determines the maximum suspension travel available, allowing your RC car to absorb impacts effectively whilst maintaining control and stability during aggressive driving, jumping and cornering.
- V2 design generation — These represent the current V2 generation of Associated shock body design, incorporating the latest engineering refinements and manufacturing techniques to deliver improved performance over earlier versions.
- Matched pair format — Supplied as shock bodies that must be paired with shafts of the same 27.5mm stroke for correct suspension setup, ensuring proper functioning and preventing damage from mismatched components.
- Extended lifespan — The Kashima coating significantly extends the working life of these shock bodies by reducing wear and friction, meaning you'll get more reliable performance and need fewer replacements compared to standard coated or uncoated alternatives.
Technical Performance
The Associated FT 12x27.5 V2 Shock Bodies represent state-of-the-art RC suspension engineering. The Kashima coating is a proprietary surface treatment that creates an ultra-smooth finish with molecular-level friction reduction, which is why it's become the industry standard for high-performance suspension components on both full-scale vehicles and scale models. When you install these shock bodies on your RC car, you'll immediately notice smoother suspension action, particularly when driving over bumpy terrain or landing jumps. The 12mm bore diameter and 27.5mm stroke combination is optimised for a wide range of driving styles and track conditions, providing adequate suspension travel without excessive compliance that could compromise handling precision. The V2 generation incorporates refinements in manufacturing tolerances and internal geometry that improve oil flow and reduce resistance, contributing to the buttery-smooth action these components are renowned for. Build quality is exceptional — these are genuine Associated Factory Team components manufactured to competition standards, not budget alternatives. The Kashima coating itself is applied through a specialised process that creates a durable, long-lasting finish resistant to oil degradation and the general wear that shocks experience through heavy use.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Kashima coat and why is it worth the extra cost? — Kashima is a proprietary coating developed by FOX that creates an ultra-smooth, low-friction surface on shock bodies. It dramatically reduces friction between the piston and bore, resulting in noticeably smoother suspension action, more consistent performance across temperature ranges, and significantly extended component lifespan. For serious RC enthusiasts, the improved handling feel and durability easily justify the investment.
- Will these shock bodies fit my Associated RC car? — These bodies feature a 12mm inside diameter and 27.5mm stroke. They're listed as compatible with the RC10T5M and will fit any other Associated RC car that uses 12mm bore shocks with 27.5mm stroke. You should verify your specific model's requirements before purchasing, as some Associated vehicles use different bore diameters or stroke lengths.
- Do I need to replace the shock shafts as well? — These shock bodies are sold without shafts, so you must pair them with shock shafts of the same 27.5mm stroke length for proper assembly. If your existing shafts are the correct stroke specification and in good condition, you can reuse them; otherwise, you'll need to purchase matching replacement shafts.
- What makes V2 different from earlier generations? — The V2 generation represents the current iteration of Associated's shock body design, incorporating manufacturing refinements and engineering improvements over earlier versions. These typically include improved internal geometry for better oil flow, tighter manufacturing tolerances for more consistent performance, and optimised piston seat design.
- How much difference will upgrading to Kashima-coated shocks make? — Most RC drivers upgrading to Kashima-coated shocks report immediately noticeable improvements: smoother suspension action, particularly over small bumps; more consistent handling across different track conditions; and improved feedback through the chassis. The performance improvement is comparable to upgrading other key components and is especially noticeable during high-speed cornering and landing jumps.
- Are these competition-grade components? — Yes, these are Factory Team components, Associated's competition-focused product line. They're engineered and manufactured to the same standards as components used in professional RC racing, making them suitable for both competitive racing and high-level recreational driving.
