Overview
The Associated 12mm V2 X-Ring Rebuild Kit (AS91495) is an essential maintenance service pack designed specifically for Team Associated 12mm V2 shock absorbers. Whether you're a dedicated RC car enthusiast in the UK enjoying regular track days or a weekend basher putting your 1/10 scale off-road buggy through its paces, keeping your suspension in peak condition is absolutely crucial for optimal performance. This genuine Associated rebuild kit supplies everything you need to refresh a complete set of four shocks, restoring that critical sealing performance that directly impacts your vehicle's handling, comfort and overall responsiveness on the track or trail.
Shock seals are among the most wear-prone components in any RC suspension system, gradually degrading through exposure to dust, moisture, mud and the constant pressure cycles of competitive driving or casual bashing. Over time, worn seals allow oil to weep from the shock bodies, leading to inconsistent damping, unpredictable handling characteristics and a frustrating loss of the precise control you expect from your Team Associated RC buggy. The 12mm V2 X-Ring Rebuild Kit is specifically engineered to address this maintenance need, providing genuine Team Associated components that restore your shocks to their original performance specification. For owners of the RC10B5 or RC10B5M, this is the official solution recommended by the manufacturer itself.
What sets this kit apart is its comprehensive approach to shock maintenance. Rather than offering just seals, Associated includes all the necessary shaft guides required for a complete four-shock rebuild, meaning you have everything needed in one convenient package. This is the kind of routine maintenance that serious RC competitors and dedicated hobbyists perform regularly to maintain competitive edge and reliability. If you've noticed your shocks feeling less responsive, or if you simply want to keep your suspension fresh during the off-season, the 12mm V2 X-Ring Rebuild represents genuine value from a manufacturer that understands what RC enthusiasts in the UK demand.
Key Features
- Eight X-Ring Type Shock Seals — The kit provides eight premium x-ring type seals, which is the correct quantity to completely refresh a full set of four shock absorbers (two seals per shock for a proper rebuild). X-ring seals offer superior sealing geometry compared to standard o-rings, providing better oil retention and more consistent damping characteristics throughout the life of the seal.
- Complete Shaft Guide Set — All necessary shaft guides for four shocks are included, ensuring your rebuild is comprehensive and nothing is missing. Shaft guides are critical internal components that ensure smooth piston travel and maintain consistent seal contact, directly affecting your vehicle's suspension feel and performance.
- Genuine Team Associated Components — As an official Associated service kit, you're getting authentic manufacturer-approved parts engineered to exact specifications. This guarantees compatibility and performance that aftermarket alternatives simply cannot match, giving you confidence that your suspension will perform exactly as intended.
- Routine Maintenance Solution — Designed specifically for ongoing maintenance rather than emergency repair, this kit represents the proactive approach that keeps your RC car performing at its best through regular seasonal or mileage-based service intervals.
- Dual Model Compatibility — The kit is confirmed compatible with both the RC10B5 and RC10B5M, making it a versatile solution if you own either of these popular Team Associated 1/10 off-road buggies.
Technical Performance
The 12mm V2 shock system represents Team Associated's engineering excellence in suspension design for 1/10 scale off-road competition. The V2 designation indicates this is the second generation of their 12mm shock platform, incorporating refinements and improvements based on extensive feedback from both professional racing teams and dedicated club-level racers. The x-ring seal design is specifically chosen for its superior performance characteristics; the cross-shaped profile creates multiple sealing surfaces that adapt dynamically to piston movement, maintaining consistent oil containment even under the extreme pressure cycles generated during aggressive cornering, jumps and high-speed acceleration. The shaft guides work in concert with these seals to maintain precise piston alignment, ensuring the shock rod travels perfectly straight through the seal without binding or chattering. This geometric precision directly translates to predictable handling — your car responds consistently to your inputs lap after lap, which is essential whether you're competing in organised off-road racing events or simply enjoying your RC buggy at your local club. The complete rebuild kit approach means you're not just replacing seals; you're performing a full service that returns your suspension to factory-fresh condition, eliminating any accumulated wear or micro-damage that develops over thousands of miles of operation. For UK RC enthusiasts running Team Associated 1/10 buggies in dusty, muddy or sandy conditions, regular seal replacement is part of responsible equipment maintenance that extends shock lifespan and maintains the precision handling these vehicles are famous for.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I rebuild my 12mm V2 shocks with this kit? — Rebuild frequency depends on your usage intensity. Competitive racers running multiple heats per week might rebuild every 2-3 months, whilst casual weekend bashers might only need annual rebuilds. Signs that rebuilding is needed include visible oil weeping from shock bodies, inconsistent handling feel, or reduced responsiveness compared to when your car was new. If you've noticed your shocks feeling less sharp or more unpredictable, it's likely time for a fresh seal set.
- Is this kit suitable for beginners? — Shock rebuilding requires some mechanical skill and familiarity with your vehicle's suspension system. If you're new to RC maintenance, you might consider having an experienced friend or your local RC club help you through the process the first time. However, once you've done it once, most people find it straightforward and satisfying to perform regular maintenance themselves. Many RC shops also offer rebuild services if you prefer.
- Will this kit work on my Associated RC10B5 or RC10B5M? — Yes, this kit is specifically designed for both the RC10B5 and RC10B5M models. These are both excellent 1/10 scale off-road buggies, and this genuine Team Associated rebuild kit is the officially recommended service pack for maintaining their suspension systems.
- What makes x-ring seals better than standard o-ring seals? — X-ring seals have a cross-shaped profile that creates four sealing surfaces instead of the two on a standard o-ring. This design provides superior oil retention, more consistent pressure distribution, and better longevity under the extreme conditions found in RC suspension systems. The improved sealing geometry means your shocks maintain their oil content longer, keeping your damping characteristics consistent throughout more running time between rebuilds.
- Can I use this kit if my shocks have sustained damage? — This rebuild kit is designed for routine maintenance of seals and guides. If your shock bodies have cracks, dents, or the internal rods are bent or damaged, rebuilding won't restore full performance. In those cases, you may need to replace the entire shock body. However, if your shocks are simply old or tired with good structural condition, this kit will restore them to excellent working order.
- Is professional installation required? — Rebuilding shocks is within the capability of most dedicated RC enthusiasts, but it does require care and cleanliness. You'll need basic tools including screwdrivers and potentially some small hex keys. The most important thing is working in a clean environment and handling components carefully. If you're unsure, many local RC clubs or specialist shops offer rebuild services at reasonable cost.
