Overview
The Team Associated 16mm Rear Springs Green 3.60 lb/in represent a significant advancement in suspension tuning for competitive 1:8 scale RC buggy racing. These professionally engineered springs are part of Team Associated's innovative new 1.5D wire spring lineup, specifically developed to optimise performance on ungroomed and bumpy track surfaces where grip is at a premium. Whether you're competing at major events like DNC and Silver State, or simply looking to improve your RC car's handling on challenging terrain, these rear springs offer the precision tuning that serious RC enthusiasts demand. As an authorised Team Associated dealer and trusted RC retailer based in the UK, RC Model Shop supplies only genuine Team Associated components that meet factory specifications.
Through extensive 1:8 scale development, Team Associated identified that while their previous 1.6mm wire diameter springs performed excellently on high-grip, well-prepared fast tracks, they struggled to maintain consistent grip on ungroomed surfaces where traction is variable. This discovery led to the development of the new 1.5D wire spring lineup, which fundamentally changes how the suspension behaves on low-grip terrain. By reducing the wire diameter from 1.6mm to 1.5mm, Team Associated altered the spring's natural frequency and stress characteristics, allowing the springs to compress more freely and conform seamlessly to irregular track surfaces. The result is dramatically improved bump handling and traction where it matters most—on rough, unprepared racing surfaces.
These 16mm rear springs are engineered specifically for RC8B4.1 and RC8B4.1e models, with full compatibility with the RC8B4 and selected older Team Associated 1:8 scale models that utilise 16mm shock towers. The 83mm free length (L83) has been optimised to work perfectly with the lower RC8B4.1 shock tower design, ensuring your suspension geometry remains correct and performance is maximised throughout the full range of travel.
Key Features
- 1.5mm Wire Diameter (1.5D) — The reduced wire diameter compared to the previous 1.6mm specification gives these springs a different natural frequency and wire stress profile, allowing them to compress more easily and conform to low-grip track surfaces for superior traction and bump compliance. This engineering breakthrough makes these springs ideal for ungroomed racing conditions.
- 3.60 lb/in Spring Rate — The green-coded springs feature a 3.60 pound per inch spring rate, positioned within the updated rear spring range of 3.40–3.75 lb/in. This softer rate sits below the standard kit pink spring (3.7 lb/in), giving you the option to fine-tune your suspension stiffness downwards for maximum grip on challenging terrain.
- 83mm Free Length (L83) — Shortened from the previous 86mm standard, the 83mm free length has been precisely engineered to optimise the suspension package with Team Associated's new lower RC8B4.1 shock tower design, ensuring correct suspension geometry and consistent performance.
- 10.0 Turns (10.0T) — The spring features 10.0 complete turns of wire, contributing to its specific spring rate and compliance characteristics that make it ideal for low-grip surfaces.
- Tightly Grouped Coil Variation — All springs in this lineup are manufactured with just 0.25 coil variation between rates, providing exceptionally precise and predictable setup changes. This tight tolerance allows competitive racers to make fine-tuned adjustments that noticeably impact handling without dramatic setup shifts.
- Dual-End Colour Marking — Both ends of each spring are colour-coded green, making them immediately distinguishable from the previous 1.6D wire springs which were coloured on only one end. This prevents accidental mixing of spring types and ensures you maintain the exact setup your car requires.
- Optimised for Ungroomed Surfaces — Developed through real-world racing experience at major competitions, these springs are specifically tuned for the variable grip and bumpy surfaces typical of ungroomed racing circuits, where maintaining traction and bump compliance is essential for competitive lap times.
- Fits 16mm Shocks — Compatible with the 16mm shock design used on RC8B4.1, RC8B4.1e, RC8B4 and selected older Team Associated 1:8 models, making these an excellent upgrade option for drivers with compatible chassis.
Technical Performance
These professional-grade rear springs exemplify Team Associated's commitment to precision engineering and competitive performance. The transition from 1.6mm to 1.5mm wire diameter represents far more than a simple size reduction—it fundamentally alters the spring's mechanical properties and behaviour under load. The thinner wire exhibits lower bending stiffness while maintaining structural integrity, which translates to improved compliance and the ability to track bumpy, ungroomed surfaces that would cause stiffer springs to bounce or lose contact. The 3.60 lb/in rate provides excellent vertical compliance whilst still offering sufficient support for the chassis during cornering and acceleration phases. Manufactured to Team Associated's strict factory tolerances, each spring in a pair is matched to ensure balanced left and right suspension behaviour. The 83mm free length integrates seamlessly with modern RC8B4.1 geometry, optimising both ride height and available suspension travel. For competitive 1:8 scale racing on UK club tracks and serious competition venues, these springs represent the kind of precision component that separates consistent front-runners from mid-pack finishers. Whether you're preparing your RC buggy for serious racing or looking to significantly improve handling characteristics on challenging terrain, these genuine Team Associated springs deliver the engineering quality and performance tuning that top drivers rely upon.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 1.5D and 1.6D springs? — The 1.5D springs feature a 1.5mm wire diameter compared to the previous 1.6mm (1.6D) specification. This thinner wire diameter gives the springs a lower natural frequency and reduces stress on the wire itself, allowing them to compress more freely and conform better to ungroomed, low-grip track surfaces. The 1.5D springs are colour-coded on both ends to distinguish them from 1.6D springs, which are coloured on only one end.
- Which RC cars do these springs fit? — These 16mm rear springs are designed for Team Associated 1:8 scale models including the RC8B4.1, RC8B4.1e, RC8B4, and selected older Team Associated models that utilise 16mm shock towers. If you're unsure whether your specific model is compatible, please contact our team at RC Model Shop for confirmation.
- What does the 3.60 lb/in rating mean? — The 3.60 lb/in (pounds per inch) specification indicates the spring rate—essentially how much force is required to compress the spring one inch. A lower number means a softer, more compliant spring. The 3.60 lb/in rate in these green springs sits below the standard kit pink spring at 3.7 lb/in, making them ideal for drivers seeking improved grip and bump handling on low-traction surfaces.
- Are these springs suitable for competitive racing? — Absolutely. These springs are engineered by Team Associated's factory race development team specifically for competitive 1:8 scale racing. They were developed based on real-world experience at major competitions like DNC and Silver State, where top drivers demanded better performance on ungroomed tracks. Whether you're racing seriously or simply want professional-quality suspension components, these springs deliver genuine performance benefits.
- Can I use these springs on older Team Associated models? — These 16mm springs are compatible with RC8B4, RC8B4.1, RC8B4.1e and selected older Team Associated 1:8 models with 16mm shocks. The 83mm free length is optimised for the newer RC8B4.1 geometry, so compatibility with much older models may require verification. Contact us if you have questions about your specific chassis.
- What spring rate should I choose? — Team Associated offers rear springs in the new 1.5D lineup ranging from 3.40 to 3.75 lb/in. The 3.60 lb/in green springs sit in the middle-soft range, offering excellent compliance for low-grip conditions whilst maintaining reasonable support. Start with the green 3.60 lb/in springs and adjust up or down depending on track grip conditions and your car's handling characteristics.
- Why are both ends colour-coded? — The dual-end colour marking ensures you cannot accidentally mix these 1.5D springs with older 1.6D wire springs, which were only coloured on one end. This prevents setup errors and maintains the precise suspension geometry your RC buggy requires for optimal performance.
