Overview
The Team Associated AS81611 3.5 x 44.5mm TiN Shock Shafts are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for the RC8T4 and RC8T4e RC truggy platforms. These shock shafts represent the kind of dedicated, high-quality spare parts that serious RC enthusiasts rely on when maintaining and upgrading their competition-grade vehicles. Whether you're a dedicated RC car UK hobbyist looking to maintain your truggy's suspension performance or a racing competitor seeking to optimise your setup, these titanium nitride-coated shock shafts offer the durability and precision that the RC8 platform demands.
Manufactured by Team Associated, one of the most respected names in RC racing, these shock shafts are engineered to exacting standards to ensure perfect compatibility with your RC8T4 or RC8T4e chassis. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating provides superior hardness and wear resistance compared to standard steel or chrome alternatives, making these shafts an excellent choice for both casual weekend bashers and competitive racers. The 3.5 x 44.5mm dimensions make them ideal for rear suspension applications on the RC8T4 platform, where they work in harmony with the vehicle's advanced suspension geometry to deliver responsive, predictable handling characteristics.
These replacement shock shafts are an essential part of any RC truggy maintenance schedule. Over time, shock shafts can become worn or damaged through regular use, particularly in competitive driving where every thousandth of an inch matters to performance. Having a quality spare set like the AS81611 ensures you can quickly restore your suspension to factory specifications, maintaining the precise damping characteristics that make the RC8T4 such a formidable competitor on the track.
Key Features
- Titanium Nitride Coating — The TiN coating applied to these shock shafts significantly increases surface hardness and wear resistance, allowing them to withstand the demanding conditions of RC racing and bashing whilst maintaining dimensional accuracy over extended use.
- Precise 3.5 x 44.5mm Dimensions — These shafts are manufactured to exact specifications that match Team Associated's engineering tolerances, ensuring perfect fit and function within your RC8T4 or RC8T4e shock absorber units without any play or misalignment issues.
- Purpose-Designed for RC8T4/RC8T4e — Specifically engineered for the latest generation RC8 truggy platform, these shafts are optimised for the suspension geometry and damping characteristics of this acclaimed vehicle, ensuring you maintain the performance advantages that make the RC8T4 such a competitive platform.
- Durable Construction for High-Performance Use — Whether you're running your RC truggy on the track during competition or enjoying weekend bashing sessions, these shafts are built to handle the demands of high-performance driving whilst maintaining the precision tolerances critical to suspension performance.
- Easy Identification and Ordering — The distinctive AS81611 part number makes it simple to identify and order exactly the correct shock shaft size for your RC8T4 platform, eliminating any confusion when sourcing replacement suspension components.
Technical Performance
The AS81611 shock shafts exemplify Team Associated's commitment to precision engineering and material science in RC vehicle suspension design. At 3.5mm in diameter and 44.5mm in length, these shafts are specifically optimised for the rear suspension of the RC8T4 and RC8T4e platforms, which represent the latest development from Team Associated's legendary Area 51 research and development facility. The titanium nitride coating process creates a microscopically hard surface layer that resists wear, corrosion and scoring far more effectively than traditional chrome plating or plain steel finishes. This is particularly important in RC suspension applications where the shock shaft must maintain consistent smooth operation through thousands of compression and extension cycles during racing and driving. The precise manufacturing ensures that these replacement shafts maintain dimensional accuracy to within extremely tight tolerances, which is essential because even microscopic variations can affect damping characteristics and suspension response. For drivers using their RC8T4 in competitive racing environments, maintaining shock shaft quality is crucial to consistent lap times and predictable handling. The compatible RC8T4 and RC8T4e platforms are known for their advanced suspension geometry and responsive performance characteristics, and these shock shafts play a vital role in maintaining that performance level throughout the vehicle's operational life.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What size shock shafts do I need for my RC8T4? — The RC8T4 platform uses two different shock shaft sizes depending on suspension position. The AS81611 shafts measure 3.5 x 44.5mm and are designed for rear suspension applications. For front suspension, Team Associated also manufactures 3.5 x 35.5mm TiN shafts (part number AS81608). Always verify which position you're replacing to ensure you order the correct size.
- Are these shafts compatible with the RC8T4e electric version? — Yes, the AS81611 shafts are specifically designed to fit both the RC8T4 and RC8T4e platforms. Team Associated engineered the suspension geometry consistently across both the petrol and electric versions, so these rear shock shafts work perfectly with either variant of the RC8T4 platform.
- What is the difference between TiN and chrome shock shafts? — TiN (titanium nitride) coating is significantly harder and more wear-resistant than chrome plating. TiN provides superior resistance to scoring, pitting and corrosion, making it the preferred choice for high-performance racing applications where suspension precision is critical. Chrome shafts are typically more affordable but wear more quickly under demanding use. Team Associated offers both options, allowing drivers to choose based on their usage intensity and budget.
- How often should I replace my shock shafts? — Shock shaft replacement intervals depend entirely on your usage pattern. Competitive racers using their RC8T4 intensively may replace shafts several times per season, whilst casual weekend bashers might only need replacement every couple of seasons. Inspect shafts regularly for visible scoring, pitting or damage. If you notice your suspension feels less responsive or notice any binding, replacement shafts are likely needed.
- Will these shafts improve my suspension performance? — These are replacement shafts designed to restore suspension performance to original specifications, not to enhance performance beyond the stock design. However, if your current shafts are worn or damaged, replacing them with quality Team Associated shafts will restore your suspension to its intended responsive, predictable handling characteristics. For performance upgrades, you would want to explore complete shock kits or alternative suspension geometry options.
- Are these suitable for beginners? — Shock shaft replacement is an intermediate-level maintenance task that requires some mechanical familiarity with shock absorber disassembly and reassembly. Whilst not extremely difficult, beginners should ideally have basic RC mechanic knowledge or access to setup guides before attempting shock servicing. If you're new to RC maintenance, these parts are best ordered alongside a professional setup service or with guidance from experienced RC enthusiasts.
