Overview

The Team Associated RC8T4/RC8T4e 3.5 x 35.5mm TiN Shock Shafts (part number AS81608) are precision-engineered replacement components designed specifically for the RC8T4 and RC8T4e platform. These shock shafts represent Team Associated's commitment to delivering high-quality spare parts that maintain the performance standards expected from one of the most successful RC racing platforms available today. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to upgrade your suspension geometry, a weekend basher maintaining your equipment, or an RC enthusiast in the UK seeking genuine OEM parts, these TiN-coated shock shafts provide the durability and precision fit required for optimal shock absorber performance.

Constructed with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, these shock shafts offer superior hardness and corrosion resistance compared to standard chrome alternatives. The TiN finish not only extends the operational lifespan of your shock absorbers but also provides a smoother, more consistent performance across varying track conditions and weather. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK seeking reliable spare parts that deliver genuine Team Associated quality, these shock shafts are an essential maintenance item and a worthwhile upgrade that will noticeably improve your RC8T4's suspension responsiveness.

Available now through RC Model Shop, these genuine Team Associated components ensure compatibility with your RC8T4 or RC8T4e chassis without any modification or fitment issues. The precise 3.5 x 35.5mm dimensions match the original equipment specifications exactly, guaranteeing seamless integration into your existing suspension setup.

Key Features

  • TiN Coating Finish — The titanium nitride coating provides exceptional hardness and wear resistance, significantly outlasting standard chrome-plated shafts. This advanced surface treatment reduces friction during compression and extension cycles, resulting in smoother, more predictable shock damping characteristics that translate directly into improved handling and traction on track.
  • Precise Dimensional Compatibility — Measuring exactly 3.5 x 35.5mm, these shock shafts are engineered to Team Associated's exacting tolerances, ensuring perfect fitment within the RC8T4 and RC8T4e shock absorber assemblies without any shimming or modification whatsoever.
  • Enhanced Durability — The TiN finish actively resists corrosion and surface degradation far better than traditional chrome plating, making these shafts ideal for use in varying weather conditions and when exposed to moisture. This durability translates into longer intervals between shock maintenance and rebuild cycles.
  • Genuine Team Associated Component — These are official OEM parts manufactured by Team Associated, the renowned RC racing platform developer behind the award-winning RC8 series. Using genuine parts ensures you maintain the exact performance characteristics and reliability that your RC8T4 platform was designed to deliver.
  • Improved Shock Performance — The reduced friction and enhanced surface properties of the TiN coating mean your shocks will respond more consistently and predictably throughout the entire range of compression and extension. This directly improves suspension compliance over bumps and braking events, enhancing overall chassis control.

Technical Performance

These shock shafts represent the convergence of advanced materials science and precision engineering applied to RC suspension performance. The 3.5mm diameter shaft provides the ideal balance between stiffness and flex characteristics for the RC8T4 platform's 16mm shock absorber design. The 35.5mm length specification ensures proper engagement with both the shock tower mounting points and the spring/damping cartridge assembly, maintaining the geometric relationships that Team Associated engineered into the RC8T4 chassis. The TiN coating is applied through physical vapour deposition (PVD), a process that creates an extremely thin, incredibly hard surface layer that bonds to the underlying steel substrate at the atomic level. This coating thickness, typically between 2-5 microns, provides hardness ratings of approximately 3000 HV (Vickers hardness), compared to around 500 HV for standard chrome plating. This hardness differential means the TiN-coated shafts will maintain their surface finish and dimensional accuracy far longer than chrome alternatives, even under the extreme cyclical stresses of competitive RC racing. The shock absorber application experiences millions of compression and extension cycles during a season of racing, and the TiN coating significantly reduces wear-related performance degradation. Users report smoother shock action, more consistent damping feel, and improved suspension response throughout the life of the components.

What's in the Box

  • 1x pair of 3.5 x 35.5mm TiN-coated shock shafts for RC8T4/RC8T4e

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shock shafts suitable for both RC8T4 and RC8T4e models? — Yes, these 3.5 x 35.5mm TiN shock shafts are specifically designed for compatibility with both the RC8T4 and RC8T4e platforms. The dimensional specifications are identical across both models, making these a universal fitment for either vehicle.
  • What is the difference between TiN-coated and chrome-plated shock shafts? — TiN (titanium nitride) coated shafts offer superior hardness, typically six times harder than standard chrome plating, which dramatically improves wear resistance and longevity. Chrome-plated shafts, while less expensive, wear more quickly and can develop surface damage that affects shock smoothness. The TiN coating also provides better corrosion resistance in damp UK weather conditions and maintains consistent friction properties throughout the shaft's operational life, resulting in more predictable damping characteristics.
  • Do I need to replace both shock shafts or just one? — For optimal suspension balance and performance consistency, Team Associated recommends replacing shock shafts in pairs (front and rear, or both left and right sides). Mixing old and new shafts can lead to inconsistent damping characteristics between the front and rear suspension, which may negatively affect handling balance.
  • What is the standard maintenance interval for RC8T4 shock shafts? — Maintenance intervals depend heavily on usage intensity, weather exposure, and track conditions. Competitive racers may service shocks every 4-6 months of regular use, while casual users might extend this to 12 months. The TiN coating extends the useful lifespan compared to chrome alternatives, but routine inspection for wear, scoring, or corrosion remains important.
  • Are these shafts compatible with aftermarket shock absorbers? — These shafts are specifically engineered for Team Associated's 16mm shock absorber design as used in the RC8T4 platform. Compatibility with third-party shock absorbers cannot be guaranteed without verification of identical internal dimensions and mounting configurations.
  • How do I install these shock shafts? — Installation requires disassembly of the existing shock absorbers, removal of old shafts, and careful installation of new shafts ensuring proper seating within the shock body and correct alignment with shock tower mounting points. Most users refer to the Team Associated RC8T4 assembly manuals or instructional videos for precise installation procedures.
