These shock pistons are part of the Factory Team range, signifying they are built to the same exacting standards as parts used in competitive racing environments. The tapered hole configuration is not merely aesthetic—it directly influences oil flow characteristics and suspension behaviour, making these pistons a critical tuning tool for any serious RC buggy driver.
Key Features
- Factory Team Engineering — These pistons are manufactured to Factory Team specifications, the same standards employed in competitive 1/8 scale RC racing, ensuring reliability and precision that standard parts cannot match.
- 6x1.5mm Tapered Hole Configuration — The tapered hole layout is precisely designed to deliver defined oil flow characteristics through your 16mm shocks, allowing you to fine-tune suspension damping to match specific track conditions and driving styles.
- 16mm Shock Compatibility — Purpose-built for 16mm shock absorbers found on the RC8B4.1 and RC8B4.1e chassis, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance without modification or adaptation.
- Genuine Team Associated Part — This is an authentic OEM component bearing the official part number AS81598, guaranteeing genuine construction quality and compatibility with your RC car.
- Suspension Tuning Flexibility — By changing piston configuration, drivers can adjust oil flow and damping rates without requiring expensive shock rebuilds, making this an economical way to explore different suspension setups.
- Professional-Grade Quality — Used by competitive racers and tuning specialists, these pistons represent proven performance in demanding racing environments across the UK and internationally.
Technical Performance
The TEAM ASSOCIATED FT 16MM SHOCK PISTONS deliver exceptional technical performance through their precision-engineered tapered hole design. The 6x1.5mm hole configuration is not a random specification—it has been carefully calculated by Factory Team engineers to provide specific oil flow characteristics that directly influence how your 16mm shock absorbers respond to suspension inputs. These pistons work in concert with your shock fluid to create progressive damping curves that can be tuned to suit anything from high-grip asphalt surfaces to looser clay or carpet tracks. The tapered hole design means that as the piston moves through its full stroke, the effective orifice area changes, creating nuanced damping behaviour that responds intelligently to suspension movement. For 1/8 scale off-road buggy racing, this level of control is essential—allowing drivers to dial in mid-stroke and high-speed compression damping independently. The manufacturing tolerances are extremely tight, ensuring that multiple pistons behave identically when installed across different shocks, which is critical for maintaining consistent handling balance. These components are constructed from quality materials engineered to withstand the rigorous demands of competitive racing, resisting wear and maintaining performance consistency over extended use. Whether you're running your RC8B4.1 or RC8B4.1e on a UK racing circuit or tackling challenging terrain, the technical excellence of these Factory Team pistons means you can confidently dial in your suspension setup with repeatability and precision that budget alternatives cannot provide.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What are shock pistons and why would I need to replace them on my RC8B4.1? — Shock pistons are internal components within your 16mm shock absorbers that control how quickly shock fluid moves through passages, directly affecting suspension damping rates. By changing piston configurations, you can adjust how stiff or soft your suspension feels without rebuilding shocks, making them essential tuning components for optimising handling on different track surfaces.
- Will these FT 16mm shock pistons fit my RC8B4.1e? — Yes, these pistons are specifically designed for both the RC8B4.1 and RC8B4.1e chassis, as they both use 16mm shock absorbers. They will fit directly into your existing shocks without any modification required.
- How do the 6x1.5mm tapered holes differ from other piston designs? — The tapered hole design creates variable oil flow characteristics throughout the piston's stroke, allowing for more sophisticated damping tuning compared to simple straight-hole pistons. This gives you finer control over mid-stroke and high-speed compression damping, essential for competitive racing setups.
- Are these suitable for beginners or only for experienced racers? — While these are professional-grade Factory Team components typically used in competitive racing, they represent a straightforward upgrade path for any RC8B4.1/e owner wanting to improve suspension performance. If you're new to suspension tuning, these pistons offer an excellent way to explore how damping changes affect handling without requiring expensive shock rebuilds.
- What makes Factory Team parts different from standard Associated components? — Factory Team components are engineered and manufactured to the exacting standards used in professional competitive racing. They offer tighter manufacturing tolerances, premium materials, and proven performance in racing environments, making them the choice for drivers serious about maximising their RC buggy's potential.
