Overview
The Team Associated RC8B4 Front Shock Tower V2 in black aluminium represents a significant upgrade for owners of the RC8B4 buggy platform. Team Associated has completely redesigned the front shock tower to deliver improved durability and reliability, making it an essential upgrade for competitive racers and serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. This is the V2 iteration, incorporating lessons learned from the original design and featuring enhanced engineering that keeps your buggy performing at its best through demanding runs and challenging terrain.
Whether you're competing at track events, bashing through off-road courses, or simply pushing your RC buggy to its limits, the durability of your front-end suspension components directly impacts performance and reliability. The RC8B4 Front Shock Tower V2 addresses this need head-on with a completely redesigned approach that captures the front upper suspension insert more securely and supports your suspension arms with longer hinge pins. This is not merely a cosmetic upgrade – it's an engineering solution that helps your Team Associated vehicle cross the finish line in one piece, race after race.
For RC car UK enthusiasts and competition drivers, upgrading to these V2 shock towers is a smart investment in reliability and performance consistency. The improved design reduces flex and movement in the front-end structure, translating to more predictable handling and better suspension geometry maintenance throughout your driving sessions.
Key Features
- CNC-machined 7075 aluminium construction — The shock tower is precision-engineered from high-grade 7075 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium compounds available for RC applications. This material choice ensures the part withstands the forces and impacts experienced during aggressive driving without bending or flexing excessively.
- Black anodised finish — The protective anodised coating not only gives the shock tower a professional appearance but also provides corrosion resistance, protecting the aluminium underneath from oxidation and extending the lifespan of the component even in humid UK conditions.
- Updated captured suspension insert with 1mm pocket — The V2 design incorporates a 1mm pocket that securely captures your front upper suspension insert. This refinement prevents the suspension insert from shifting during driving, maintaining consistent suspension geometry and improving handling predictability through demanding corners and obstacles.
- Longer 48mm front upper hinge pins — The shock tower now includes 2mm longer hinge pins (48mm total length) that provide superior support for your front upper suspension arms. These extended pins reduce stress concentration and distribute loads more effectively, resulting in a more durable front-end assembly that resists damage from impacts and aggressive cornering.
- Enhanced durability over original design — The combination of the captured suspension insert and longer hinge pins creates the most durable front-end design Team Associated has developed for the RC8B4 platform. This V2 update represents a meaningful improvement over the original shock tower, particularly under high-stress racing and competitive conditions.
- Installation supplement included — Team Associated provides detailed installation documentation to ensure you fit this upgrade correctly and safely. The included supplement guides you through the installation process, making the upgrade accessible to home mechanics and experienced builders alike.
Technical Performance
The RC8B4 Front Shock Tower V2 exemplifies modern RC engineering with its precision CNC-machined construction from 7075 aluminium alloy. This material selection is deliberate and critical – 7075 aluminium offers the strength-to-weight ratio essential for competitive RC buggies, providing rigid support without unnecessary mass that would compromise acceleration and handling. The black anodised finish provides both aesthetic appeal and practical protection against the elements, a consideration that matters for UK RC drivers who must contend with variable weather conditions. The engineering improvements in the V2 design focus on structural integrity at the critical points where suspension loads concentrate. By incorporating a 1mm pocket to capture the front upper suspension insert, the shock tower eliminates movement in a component that directly affects how your buggy's suspension geometry evolves through corner sequences. The 48mm hinge pins represent a 2mm increase in length compared to the original design – a small dimension change that has significant ramifications for load distribution and stress management. In competitive RC driving, where thousandths of a second separate winners from runners-up, maintaining precise suspension geometry throughout a race run is absolutely fundamental. This upgraded front shock tower achieves that objective by resisting the flex and movement that could compromise your suspension tune. The resulting combination of engineering improvements makes this the most durable front-end design Team Associated has developed for the RC8B4 platform, specifically engineered to survive the rigours of competitive racing and intense recreational driving without compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the RC8B4 Front Shock Tower V2 a direct replacement for the original design? — Yes, this V2 design is engineered as an upgrade for the RC8B4. However, you will need the AS81446 spacer (which remains from your original kit build) to fill an extra gap on the build. Team Associated has designed the installation process to integrate smoothly with your existing RC8B4 chassis.
- What makes the V2 design more durable than the original shock tower? — The V2 iteration incorporates two key improvements: a 1mm pocket that captures and secures your front upper suspension insert, preventing movement during driving, and 2mm longer 48mm hinge pins that provide better support for your front upper suspension arms. Together, these refinements create a more rigid, stable front-end assembly that resists flex and damage during aggressive driving.
- Will upgrading to this shock tower improve my RC8B4 performance? — The primary benefit is increased durability and reliability, which translates to more consistent performance throughout your racing sessions without concerns about front-end flex affecting your suspension geometry. For competitive drivers, maintaining precise suspension tune is essential, and this upgraded tower delivers that consistency. You'll experience improved handling predictability and confidence that your front-end will survive the impacts and stresses of track racing or intense bashing.
- What material is this shock tower made from? — The RC8B4 Front Shock Tower V2 is CNC-machined from 7075 aluminium alloy, one of the strongest and most durable aluminium compounds available for RC applications. The black anodised finish provides both protection and visual appeal.
- Is installation complicated? — Team Associated includes an installation supplement with detailed guidance for fitting this upgrade to your RC8B4. The process is straightforward for anyone with basic RC mechanical knowledge. You will need the AS81446 spacer from your original kit to complete the installation.
- Which RC8B4 models is this compatible with? — This shock tower is specifically designed for the Team Associated RC8B4 buggy platform and fits all RC8B4 variants.
