Overview
Fine-tune your RC buggy's handling with the Associated RC8B3.1/RC8B3.2 FT Chassis Weight 15g (AS81405), a Factory Team precision component designed for serious RC enthusiasts in the UK. This machined brass weight is engineered specifically for the RC8B3 platform, allowing you to dial in front or rear weight bias adjustments with minimal effort. Whether you're competing at your local RC track or pushing your buggy to its limits on the weekend, chassis weights are essential tuning tools that dramatically affect how your RC car handles through corners, accelerates, and brakes. The 15g option provides a lighter weighting solution, perfect for track conditions that demand responsive, balanced handling.
Custom-fit chassis weights are a game-changer for dedicated RC car racers and serious hobbyists who understand that weight distribution directly impacts performance. This Factory Team component offers direct fitment with multiple RC8 variants, eliminating the guesswork of universal weights that don't fit properly. The machined brass construction ensures durability and precise weight specification, so you know exactly what you're adding to your RC vehicle. Available in both 15g and 30g options, these weights let you experiment with weight bias to find the perfect setup for your driving style and track conditions.
RC Model Shop stocks genuine Associated products for RC enthusiasts across the UK, from casual bashers to competition-level racers. The RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 are renowned platforms in the RC buggy world, and having access to authentic Factory Team tuning parts like this chassis weight means you can optimise your setup properly. Whether you're running on carpet, asphalt, or loose dirt, the ability to adjust weight bias is crucial for extracting maximum performance from your RC car.
Key Features
- Machined Brass Construction — The solid brass material provides accurate, consistent weight specification and superior durability compared to plastic alternatives, ensuring your weight stays in place through intense RC racing sessions and won't degrade over time.
- Adjustable Front and Rear Weight Bias — Mount this 15g weight at the front or rear of your RC buggy to fine-tune handling characteristics; heavier front bias improves stability and reduces oversteer, whilst rear bias increases responsiveness and can help with acceleration traction on loose surfaces.
- Available in 15g and 30g Options — The 15g version offers a lighter touch for tracks requiring quick, agile handling, whilst 30g is available separately for heavier tuning needs, giving you complete flexibility to match your specific track conditions and driving preferences.
- Direct Fit with RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.1e — This weight is engineered for seamless compatibility with the RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.1e platforms, eliminating the need for modifications or adapters and ensuring precise positioning every time.
- Factory Team Quality — As part of Associated's Factory Team range, this component meets the rigorous standards expected by professional RC racers and competitive hobbyists who demand nothing but the best from their tuning parts.
- Easy Installation — The weight requires just two 3x8mm FHCS (Flat Head Cap Screws) for secure mounting, making it quick and straightforward to swap between front and rear positions or try different weight configurations during practice sessions.
Technical Performance
The RC8B3.1 FT Chassis Weight represents the pinnacle of precision RC tuning. Machined from solid brass, this 15-gram weight component offers absolute consistency in mass specification—a critical factor when you're trying to dial in the perfect handling balance on your RC buggy. The engineering behind chassis weights is straightforward yet sophisticated: by adjusting where weight sits on the chassis, you change the centre of gravity and weight distribution, which fundamentally alters how your RC car responds to steering inputs, acceleration, and braking forces. The 15g specification makes this ideal for drivers seeking lighter, more responsive tuning; for heavier setups, the matching 30g option is available separately. The machined brass construction ensures the weight won't break, crack, or lose its precise mass specification even after hundreds of race runs. Installation is refreshingly simple—just two mounting holes accept standard 3x8mm FHCS fasteners (you'll need part #25201 which includes 10 screws, giving you spares for future projects). This weight is specifically engineered for the RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, and RC8B3.2 platforms, meaning it fits perfectly without modifications or creative mounting solutions. For competitive RC racers in the UK running nitro or electric buggies on tight carpet tracks or outdoor dirt courses, the ability to adjust weight bias is often the difference between winning and second place.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which RC8 models does this 15g chassis weight fit? — This weight is designed for direct fitment with RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, RC8B3.2e, RC8T3.1, RC8T3.1e, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2e, RC8B4, RC8B4e, RC8T4, RC8T4e, RC8B4.1, and RC8B4.1e models. Always verify compatibility with your specific RC buggy before purchasing.
- Should I use the 15g or 30g chassis weight for my RC buggy? — The choice depends on your track conditions and driving style. The 15g option is lighter and better for tight, technical tracks requiring quick, responsive handling and rapid direction changes. The 30g option, available separately, is heavier and suits drivers who want more stability, reduced oversteer, and prefer a more planted feel through corners. Most racers keep both weights on hand to experiment during practice sessions.
- Where should I mount this weight—front or rear of my RC car? — Front mounting adds weight bias to the front axle, increasing stability, reducing oversteer tendency, and improving steering response in high-speed corners. Rear mounting adds rear weight bias, which can improve traction during acceleration and increase responsiveness but may increase oversteer risk. The optimal position varies with track surface, grip levels, and your driving style—this is why tunable weights are so valuable for RC racing.
- Do I need any special tools to install this chassis weight? — Installation requires only a hex key or Allen driver sized to fit 3x8mm FHCS fasteners, which are standard tools found in any RC kit. The weight mounts directly to your RC8B3/B3.2 chassis with no modifications required.
- Is this suitable for beginners to RC hobbies? — Whilst beginners can certainly use this weight, chassis tuning components are typically most valuable to intermediate and advanced RC racers who understand how weight distribution affects handling and can make data-driven decisions about tuning changes. Beginners usually focus on learning basic driving techniques before experimenting with weight bias adjustments.
- What is the difference between this Factory Team weight and other aftermarket chassis weights? — Associated's Factory Team components are engineered specifically for RC8 platforms with precision machining, ensuring exact weight specifications and perfect fitment. Generic or universal weights may not fit precisely, may have inconsistent mass, and could require modifications—potentially compromising chassis integrity or creating alignment issues.
