Overview
The Associated RC8B3.1/RC8B3.2 CVA Driveshafts Bones (AS81394) are essential replacement components for owners of these high-performance 1/8 scale nitro buggy platforms. Whether you're a competitive racer running your RC buggy at the track or an enthusiast maintaining your model, these 94mm constant velocity axle bones are critical drivetrain components that directly affect power delivery, handling and overall performance. These driveshaft bones represent the kind of precision engineering that Team Associated is renowned for, ensuring smooth and efficient power transfer from your gearbox to the wheels.
The RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 are among the most successful and widely-used 1/8 scale buggies in the UK RC racing community, trusted by both beginners and seasoned competitors. The drivetrain system in these models utilises centre universal drive shafts for efficient power delivery and ease of maintenance, meaning that keeping these components in top condition is vital for reliable performance. The CVA bones are subject to wear through regular use, and replacing them with genuine Associated parts ensures your buggy maintains its factory performance specifications and handling characteristics.
Whether you're undertaking routine maintenance before a race meeting, or replacing damaged components after a hard day at the track, these driveshaft bones offer a straightforward way to restore your RC car UK investment to peak condition. Compatible with both the RC8B3.1 and the newer RC8B3.2 variants, these bones deliver the consistency and durability you'd expect from a manufacturer that has dominated international RC buggy racing for decades.
Key Features
- Constant Velocity (CVA) Design — The CVA bone construction allows smooth power delivery through the drivetrain without binding, even when the suspension is at full compression or extension, which is essential for maintaining traction and consistent handling on uneven track surfaces.
- 94mm Length Specification — Precisely engineered to the correct length for RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 platforms, ensuring perfect fitment without modifications and maintaining the factory geometry and suspension kinematics that the vehicle was designed around.
- Genuine Associated Manufacturing — These are authentic factory parts manufactured to Team Associated's quality standards, guaranteeing compatibility and durability that aftermarket alternatives cannot match.
- Easy Replacement and Maintenance — The RC8B3 drivetrain design allows for quick removal and replacement of CVA bones at the pit table, making it simple to swap worn components between races or during maintenance sessions.
- Wear-Resistant Construction — Engineered to withstand the demands of competitive RC racing and regular bashing, these bones are built to last through season after season of use when properly maintained.
- Compatible with Dual Platforms — Works with both the original RC8B3.1 and the updated RC8B3.2 variants, making this a versatile spare part for anyone running either version of this proven buggy platform.
Technical Performance
The CVA bones are a critical component of the RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 drivetrain systems, which feature centre universal drive shafts engineered for efficient power delivery and ease of maintenance. These 94mm driveshaft bones operate as part of a system that includes fast-access differentials with a 3.38:1 internal gear ratio, allowing racers to fine-tune their gearbox setup for different track conditions and driving styles. The constant velocity design minimises binding and friction losses as the suspension moves through its full range of travel, ensuring consistent power delivery whether you're accelerating hard on the straightaway or navigating tight corners. The bones connect the differential output shafts to the wheel hubs, and their condition directly impacts drivetrain efficiency, handling response and overall vehicle performance. Regular inspection and replacement of worn CVA bones as part of your maintenance checklist is essential for maintaining the precision engineering that makes the RC8B3 platform so competitive. The genuine Associated construction ensures these parts meet the exact specifications required for optimal fitment with factory RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 components, maintaining the vehicle's original performance characteristics and allowing you to extract the maximum potential from your competitive RC buggy setup.
What's in the Box
- Associated RC8B3.1/RC8B3.2 CVA Driveshaft Bones 94mm (AS81394)
What You Need to Complete
- Existing RC8B3.1 or RC8B3.2 buggy platform
- Basic tools for drivetrain maintenance (hobby knife, screwdrivers)
- Lightweight oil or silicone diff fluid for lubrication
Maintenance and Care
To ensure your CVA bones deliver optimal performance and longevity, the official RC8B3.1 maintenance checklist recommends the following: Check for binding while turning the steering wheel and ensure the CVA coupler moves freely as the wheel is turning, as any restriction indicates wear or damage. Clean and lubricate the bones frequently with lightweight oil to prevent dirt accumulation and ensure smooth operation. Inspect the CV bone pin regularly for wear or damage, as a damaged pin can cause drivetrain slop and poor handling response. If you notice any signs of wear, binding or damage during your pre-race maintenance checks, replace or rebuild the coupler assembly as needed. Replace the silicone diff fluid when servicing the drivetrain, as fresh fluid ensures optimal performance of the differential system.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these CVA bones suitable for both RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 buggy models? — Yes, the AS81394 driveshaft bones are fully compatible with both the RC8B3.1 and RC8B3.2 platforms, making them a versatile spare part for anyone running either version of this proven 1/8 scale nitro buggy.
- How often should I replace my CVA bones during the racing season? — The frequency of replacement depends on how heavily you race and bash your buggy. Factory racers typically inspect CVA bones before every race meeting as part of their maintenance checklist and replace them if any wear, binding or damage is detected. Casual racers may find they can go an entire season without replacement if properly maintained and lubricated.
- What's the difference between CVA bones and standard driveshaft components? — CVA (Constant Velocity Axle) bones feature a design that allows smooth power delivery without binding as the suspension moves through its full range of travel. This is critical for maintaining consistent handling and traction, especially on uneven track surfaces where the suspension is constantly moving.
- Will genuine Associated parts cost more than aftermarket alternatives? — Genuine Associated parts typically carry a premium compared to some aftermarket options, but this reflects their superior manufacturing quality, precise fitment, and guaranteed compatibility. For competitive racing where consistency and reliability are paramount, genuine parts represent the best value for money.
- Can I fit these bones myself or do I need specialist tools? — The RC8B3 drivetrain design allows for straightforward CVA bone replacement with basic hobby tools. The official manual and tuning guide provide detailed instructions for removing and replacing drivetrain components, and most experienced RC hobbyists can complete this maintenance task at the pit table.
- What maintenance do CVA bones require? — Regular lubrication with lightweight oil is essential for CVA bone longevity. The official maintenance checklist recommends cleaning the bones frequently to remove dirt and debris, checking that the CVA coupler moves freely without binding, and inspecting the CV bone pin for wear or damage. If you notice any problems during these checks, replacement or rebuilding may be necessary.
