Overview
The Team Associated AS81382 Differential Cross Pins With Inserts is a premium upgrade component designed specifically for RC enthusiasts who demand consistent performance and extended longevity from their differential assemblies. Whether you're a competitive racer pushing your 1/10 scale RC buggy to the limit or a dedicated basher looking to maximise the lifespan of your Team Associated RC8B3.2 or RC8 V3, this spare parts set delivers measurable improvements in differential performance and durability. As a precision-engineered upgrade from one of the most respected names in RC car manufacturing, these cross pins with inserts represent a focused investment in the reliability and consistency of your chassis, making them an essential addition to any serious RC car UK enthusiast's spares collection.
Differential performance is critical to overall vehicle handling, traction control and drivetrain longevity in high-performance RC cars. The standard differential setup can experience wear and inconsistency over time, particularly under demanding racing conditions or frequent bashing sessions. The Team Associated AS81382 addresses these issues head-on by combining hard-anodised aluminium cross pins with precision-engineered steel inserts, creating a superior differential assembly that maintains consistent performance lap after lap, whether you're competing at the track or enjoying high-speed runs in your local RC racing club.
This is not a flashy body kit or eye-catching cosmetic upgrade—this is genuine engineering that makes a tangible difference to how your RC car performs. If you've noticed your differential becoming inconsistent, or if you want to prevent premature wear before it becomes a problem, the AS81382 set is the solution that serious RC car UK competitors and dedicated enthusiasts recommend.
Key Features
- Steel Cross Pin Inserts — The steel inserts are engineered to reduce differential case deformation by significantly increasing the contact area between the cross pins and the differential case itself. This expanded contact area promotes a more stable platform for gear rotation, directly translating to smoother and more consistent gear mesh throughout your driving sessions and across varying track conditions.
- Improved Internal Gear Mesh — By minimising case deformation and maintaining precise alignment, these cross pins ensure that the internal gears maintain optimal contact patterns, which enhances consistency and directly boosts on-track performance. A more stable gear mesh means more predictable handling, smoother acceleration, and reduced noise from the differential assembly.
- Hard-Anodised Aluminium Cross Pins — The cross pins themselves are constructed from hard-anodised aluminium, a material choice that delivers the perfect balance between lightweight construction and exceptional durability. Hard anodisation creates a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion and wear, ensuring these pins maintain their precision tolerances even after extended use or exposure to moisture.
- Extended Service Life — The combination of premium materials and precision engineering is specifically designed to extend the service life of your entire differential assembly, reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacement and ultimately providing excellent value for money over time.
- Lightweight and Durable Design — Unlike heavier steel alternatives, the hard-anodised aluminium construction keeps rotational mass to a minimum, which means your differential responds more quickly and efficiently to steering inputs and power delivery, improving overall vehicle performance without adding unnecessary weight.
- Focused Performance Upgrade — This is not a universal part—it is specifically engineered for Team Associated RC8 differentials, ensuring perfect fitment and maximum performance benefit. This targeted approach guarantees compatibility and optimal results for your specific chassis.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated AS81382 Differential Cross Pins With Inserts represent a significant engineering refinement in differential technology for high-performance 1/10 scale RC buggies and off-road vehicles. The dual-material design—combining hard-anodised aluminium cross pins with steel inserts—addresses the fundamental challenge of maintaining differential precision under load. The steel inserts work by distributing contact forces across a larger surface area of the differential case, which prevents the localised deformation that occurs with standard single-material designs. This engineering principle is borrowed from full-size motorsport, where precision and consistency are non-negotiable. The hard-anodised aluminium pins provide the strength needed to withstand the rigorous demands of competitive racing while maintaining the lightweight characteristics essential for responsive handling in 1/10 scale vehicles. The anodisation process creates a microscopically dense oxide coating that significantly increases surface hardness and corrosion resistance, meaning these components will maintain their dimensional accuracy and performance characteristics throughout their service life, whether used in dry conditions or in the damper UK climate. For dedicated RC car UK competitors using Team Associated RC8 V3 differentials or the newer RC8B3.2 platform, this upgrade delivers measurable improvements in consistency, repeatability, and durability—the three factors that separate good performance from championship-level performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the main benefit of upgrading differential cross pins on my Team Associated RC8B3.2? — The primary benefit is improved consistency and performance in your differential's gear mesh. The steel inserts reduce case deformation, which means your differential maintains more consistent performance lap after lap, providing better traction control and more predictable handling characteristics during competitive racing or high-speed driving. This upgrade is particularly valuable if you've noticed inconsistent differential behaviour or if you want to prevent premature wear before it develops into a handling problem.
- Are these cross pins suitable for beginners? — Whilst these are premium-grade differential components, they are not specifically designed for beginners—they are targeted at experienced RC car UK racers and dedicated enthusiasts who understand differential mechanics and perform their own maintenance and upgrades. However, if you own a Team Associated RC8B3.2 and are comfortable performing basic maintenance, installation is straightforward. If you're new to RC cars, we recommend consulting our experienced team at RC Model Shop before undertaking differential work, as proper installation is critical to performance.
- Will these cross pins fit my Team Associated RC8 model? — These AS81382 cross pins are specifically designed for Team Associated RC8 V3 and RC8B3.2 differentials, and compatibility extends across the entire RC8 family including RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1E, RC8B3.2E, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2E, RC8B4, RC8B4E, RC8T4E, RC8T4, RC8B4.1, and RC8B4.1E models. Always verify your specific differential model before ordering to ensure correct fitment.
- What makes hard-anodised aluminium better than standard material for cross pins? — Hard anodisation creates a protective oxide coating on the aluminium surface that is significantly harder and more corrosion-resistant than untreated aluminium. This process maintains the lightweight properties of aluminium whilst dramatically increasing surface hardness and durability. The result is a component that resists wear, maintains dimensional accuracy over time, and performs consistently in varying weather conditions—essential qualities for reliable performance in competitive RC racing.
- How long do these differential components last? — With proper installation and maintenance, these hard-anodised aluminium cross pins with steel inserts are designed for extended service life compared to standard differential components. The precision engineering and premium materials significantly reduce wear rates, which means you'll experience longer intervals between differential maintenance and replacement. The exact lifespan depends on your driving style, track conditions, and maintenance practices, but serious RC racers typically see substantial longevity improvements.
- Can I install these myself? — Differential work requires precision and mechanical knowledge. Whilst the components themselves are straightforward, proper installation involves careful disassembly of your differential, positioning of the inserts, and reassembly with correct torque specifications. If you're experienced with RC maintenance, you should be comfortable with this task. If you're uncertain, RC Model Shop's experienced team can provide guidance or recommend professional installation options.
