Overview

The Associated AS81368 1.05mm Clutch Springs for 4-shoe configurations are an essential maintenance and tuning component for anyone running Team Associated RC8 series buggies and trucks. These springs are specifically designed to work with 4-shoe clutch systems, delivering precise engagement characteristics that are critical to your RC car's performance on the track or at the bash spot. Whether you're a competitive racer looking to fine-tune your setup or a weekend enthusiast maintaining your RC buggy UK, these genuine Associated parts ensure your clutch operates at peak efficiency.

Clutch springs are one of the most important tuning elements in modern RC cars. The spring rate directly affects how your engine's power is transmitted to the drivetrain, influencing acceleration, traction control and overall drivability. The 1.05mm specification of these springs makes them ideal for drivers seeking a particular engagement point that balances raw speed with predictable handling characteristics. Finding the right clutch spring for your RC car UK setup can make the difference between a loose, unpredictable feel and a locked-in, responsive driving experience.

These genuine Team Associated parts are designed with precision engineering to exacting standards, ensuring consistent performance across every use. If you're servicing your RC8B3.1, RC8B3.2 or compatible models, upgrading your clutch springs or simply maintaining your current setup, the AS81368 springs deliver the quality and reliability you'd expect from one of the world's leading RC manufacturers.

Key Features

  • 1.05mm Spring Rate — The precisely specified 1.05mm thickness provides a defined engagement curve that gives drivers control over power delivery and drivetrain response, allowing you to dial in the perfect balance between acceleration and traction.
  • 4-Shoe Clutch Configuration — These springs are engineered specifically for 4-shoe clutch systems, which provide superior holding power and more gradual engagement compared to 2-shoe designs, ideal for competitive racing and high-speed running.
  • Genuine Team Associated Quality — Manufactured by Team Associated, these are original equipment specification springs that guarantee compatibility and performance, ensuring your RC buggy or truck operates exactly as the engineers intended.
  • Broad Model Compatibility — Designed to fit the RC8B3.1, RC8B3.2, RC8T3.1, RC8T3.2, RC8B4, RC8T4 and RC8B4.1 models, these springs work with the FT 4-Shoe Adjustable Clutch System for maximum tuning flexibility.
  • Essential Maintenance Part — Clutch springs wear over time and benefit from regular replacement as part of a comprehensive maintenance schedule, keeping your RC car's performance consistent and predictable.
  • Tuning Tool for Experienced Drivers — Different spring rates dramatically alter how your RC car behaves during acceleration and under load, making these springs a valuable component in your tuning arsenal for dialling in the perfect setup.

Technical Performance

Clutch springs are precision-engineered components that form the heart of your RC car's power delivery system. The 1.05mm specification indicates the wire diameter of the spring, which directly correlates to the spring's stiffness and the force required to compress it. A stiffer spring (larger diameter) engages the clutch bell more aggressively, sending power to the wheels faster but potentially causing wheel spin in low-traction conditions. A more compliant spring allows gentler engagement but may slip under hard acceleration. These Associated AS81368 springs are manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring every spring in the set provides identical performance characteristics. This consistency is vital because even small variations between individual springs can cause uneven clutch engagement and unpredictable handling. The 4-shoe clutch system these springs are designed for represents the current standard in competitive RC car racing, offering superior holding power and more nuanced engagement control compared to older 2-shoe designs. When installed in the FT 4-Shoe Adjustable Clutch System, these springs work in harmony with the clutch bell, shoes and springs to create a transmission system that responds instantly to throttle input while protecting your drivetrain from shock loads during hard acceleration or sudden deceleration. For drivers running nitro or high-performance brushless RC buggies and trucks, having the correct spring rate installed is just as important as choosing the right engine or ESC.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between 1.05mm and other clutch spring sizes? — Clutch springs are available in different thicknesses (wire diameters), typically ranging from around 0.95mm to 1.15mm or thicker. The 1.05mm specification represents a mid-range spring rate, offering a balance between engagement aggressiveness and slippage characteristics. Thinner springs engage more gradually and slip more easily, while thicker springs engage more abruptly and hold power more aggressively. Your choice depends on track conditions, your driving style and whether you're running nitro or electric power.
  • Which RC cars do these springs fit? — These AS81368 springs are specifically designed for Team Associated RC8 series vehicles including the RC8B3.1, RC8B3.2, RC8T3.1, RC8T3.2, RC8B4, RC8T4 and RC8B4.1. They must be used with the FT 4-Shoe Adjustable Clutch System. Do not attempt to use these on vehicles with 2-shoe clutch systems as they will not function correctly.
  • How often should I replace my clutch springs? — Clutch springs gradually weaken over time as they're repeatedly compressed during use. Most competitive racers running frequently will replace their springs every few months to maintain consistent performance, whilst occasional bashers might go longer between replacements. If you notice your clutch feeling less responsive, slipping excessively or not engaging cleanly, it's time to install fresh springs. It's also good practice to replace springs as part of a full clutch service during major maintenance.
  • Are these suitable for beginners? — Whilst these are genuine quality parts, clutch tuning is an intermediate-level skill. Beginners are better served learning to drive their RC car with the springs that came factory-installed, then gradually experimenting with different rates as their skills develop. That said, if you're maintaining your car and need replacement springs, the 1.05mm size is a good all-rounder for most conditions.
  • How do I install these springs? — Clutch spring installation requires removing the clutch bell from your RC car, disassembling the clutch system, and carefully replacing the old springs with the new ones, ensuring they're positioned correctly in the clutch shoes. If you're not confident doing this yourself, speak to experienced RC enthusiasts at your local club or visit a specialist RC shop in the UK who can help you with installation.
  • Can I use these on a brushless RC car? — Yes, absolutely. These springs work identically on brushless and nitro RC cars. The clutch system functions the same way regardless of your power source, so spring selection is based on track conditions and driving style rather than engine type.
