Overview
The Team Associated RC8B3 FT 16mm Shock Piston 6x1.3mm Flat (4) represents a precision suspension tuning component designed specifically for competitive RC racing enthusiasts and serious hobbyists across the UK. These Factory Team shock pistons are engineered to provide advanced damping control for the popular RC8 series of competitive 1/10 scale RC buggies, allowing racers to fine-tune their suspension setup with exceptional precision. Whether you are competing at the highest levels of RC buggy racing or simply want to maximise the performance potential of your RC car UK setup, these shock pistons deliver the professional-grade quality that Team Associated is recognised for worldwide.
Machined from high-quality Delrin, a premium engineering plastic material known for its durability and consistency, these shock pistons add significant tuning flexibility to your 16mm shock absorber system. The flat design of these pistons (as opposed to tapered variants) offers a specific damping curve that suits particular track conditions and driving styles. For UK RC enthusiasts looking to extract maximum performance from their RC8B3 or RC8T3 series vehicles, these Factory Team components are an essential upgrade that separates serious racers from casual drivers.
Supplied as a complete set of four pistons, this product allows you to dial in your suspension settings across all four corners of your RC buggy. The ability to experiment with different piston designs and configurations is a hallmark of competitive RC racing, and these genuine Associated Factory Team components provide the reliability and precision needed for consistent performance at race meetings and practice sessions.
Key Features
- Flat FT 16mm Shock Pistons — These are genuine Factory Team flat-profile shock pistons specifically designed for 16mm shock absorbers, offering a particular damping curve that provides excellent control in specific track conditions, making them ideal for racers who want to fine-tune their suspension response.
- 6x1.3mm Configuration — The 6x1.3mm specification refers to the internal piston design geometry, which directly influences how oil flows through the shock and how quickly the suspension responds to bumps and compressions, allowing racers to experiment with different damping characteristics.
- High-Quality Delrin Construction — Machined from premium Delrin material, these pistons offer excellent durability, consistency and longevity compared to inferior alternatives, ensuring that your suspension tuning remains stable lap after lap and session after session without wear-related changes in performance.
- Enhanced Suspension Tuning Options — By providing flat piston variants alongside tapered options, Team Associated gives racers more granular control over their suspension setup, allowing them to match their vehicle perfectly to their driving style and local track characteristics.
- Pack of Four Pistons — Supplied as a complete set of four identical pistons, this allows you to run matched components across all four wheel positions on your RC8 series buggy, ensuring balanced and predictable handling characteristics throughout your vehicle.
- Factory Team Quality — These are official Team Associated Factory Team components, meaning they meet the exact specifications and quality standards used by professional racing teams, guaranteeing genuine performance and compatibility with your RC buggy.
- Easy Installation — Designed as a direct replacement for the original shock pistons in your RC8 series vehicle, these components install without modification or special tools, making them accessible to both experienced tuners and those relatively new to suspension setup.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated RC8B3 FT 16mm Shock Piston 6x1.3mm Flat represents the cutting edge of 1/10 scale RC buggy suspension tuning technology. The 6x1.3mm flat piston design creates a specific oil flow pattern through the shock absorber when the suspension compresses and extends, which directly affects how your RC car responds to track surface variations. The Delrin material used in manufacture is not arbitrary—it is chosen specifically for its dimensional stability, durability, and resistance to the constant flexing and compression cycles that shock pistons experience during intense racing. Unlike cheaper plastic materials that can warp or degrade over time, Delrin maintains its precise geometry through thousands of compression cycles, meaning your suspension tuning remains consistent. The flat profile design works in conjunction with the shock oil viscosity and shock spring rates to create a complete damping solution. Racers typically experiment with both flat and tapered piston variants to find the sweet spot for their particular driving style and track conditions. The 16mm shock size is the industry standard for 1/10 scale buggy racing, and these pistons are engineered to exacting tolerances to ensure they fit perfectly and perform reliably in this demanding application. Whether you are running on carpet track surfaces or outdoor asphalt at UK RC racing venues, these shock pistons provide the precision damping control necessary for competitive performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between flat and tapered FT 16mm shock pistons? — The flat and tapered designs create different oil flow patterns through your shock absorber, resulting in different damping characteristics. Flat pistons provide one specific damping curve, whilst tapered pistons provide another. By offering both variants, Team Associated allows racers to experiment and find the exact tuning solution that works best for their driving style, vehicle setup and local track conditions. Competitive racers often keep both types on hand to quickly adapt to changing weather conditions or track surface variations.
- Will these shock pistons improve my RC buggy's performance? — These pistons will not directly make your RC car faster, but they will allow you to optimise your suspension setup for better handling, consistency and predictability. Proper suspension tuning can reduce lap time variations, improve traction in corners and reduce unwanted body roll, all of which contribute to faster overall lap times. If your current shock setup feels unpredictable or you struggle with consistency, upgrading to quality Factory Team shock pistons may well help you extract more performance from your vehicle and yourself as a driver.
- Are these shock pistons suitable for beginners? — Whilst anyone can install these pistons, getting the most benefit from them requires understanding suspension setup and being willing to experiment with different damping options. Beginners may find that upgrading shock pistons is less critical than learning proper driving technique and understanding basic suspension principles. However, if you are serious about RC buggy racing and want to progress quickly, learning to tune suspension components like these pistons is an essential skill, and these genuine Factory Team components are the right choice to learn with.
- How many shock pistons do I need? — These pistons are supplied as a complete set of four, which is exactly what you need for a standard 1/10 scale RC buggy that uses four shock absorbers (one at each corner). The set allows you to run matched damping across your entire vehicle for balanced and predictable handling.
- How do I choose between the 6x1.3mm flat and other piston configurations? — The choice depends on your specific vehicle setup, driving style and track characteristics. The 6x1.3mm configuration is a popular choice for 16mm shocks, but Team Associated offers other variants to suit different preferences. If you are unsure which piston design is right for your setup, we recommend consulting the RC8B3 manual or contacting our experienced team at RC Model Shop—we are happy to provide personalised suspension tuning advice based on your specific situation.
- What tools do I need to install these shock pistons? — Installation typically requires removing your shock absorbers from your vehicle and opening them to access the piston. You may need basic tools like shock spanners or Allen keys, depending on your shock design. Detailed installation instructions can be found in your RC8B3 or RC8T3 vehicle manual. If you are unsure about the installation process, our team at RC Model Shop can provide guidance or arrange installation support.
