Overview

Fine-tune your suspension setup with the Team Associated RC8B3 FT 16mm Shock Piston 5x1.3mm Flat (4) — a precision-engineered component designed to unlock advanced damping customisation for your 1/8 scale RC car. Whether you're a dedicated racer looking to dial in the perfect handling characteristics or an enthusiast seeking to optimise your RC buggy or truck's performance on various track surfaces, these factory team shock pistons represent a genuine upgrade to your suspension tuning arsenal. Manufactured by Team Associated, a leader in high-performance RC engineering, these flat shock pistons are machined from premium Delrin material and supplied as a set of four, giving you multiple tuning options to experiment with on your RC8B3.1, RC8B3.2, RC8T3.1 or RC8T3.2 platform.

The introduction of new flat and tapered FT 16mm shock pistons marks a significant development in suspension technology for the RC8 series of 16mm shocks. These pistons are not simply replacement components — they represent a complete tuning philosophy that allows experienced RC car enthusiasts to dial in compression and rebound characteristics with unprecedented precision. Whether you compete at UK RC race events, bash on weekends, or are building a competition-grade setup, understanding and optimising your shock piston configuration is essential to achieving the handling you desire. The ability to adjust suspension damping through piston selection adds more tuning options than ever before, letting you tailor your 1/8 scale RC buggy or truck to different track conditions and your personal driving style.

These flat shock pistons are specifically engineered for smoother surfaces where equal compression and rebound characteristics are advantageous. Unlike tapered variants that offer directional resistance based on shaft travel direction, flat pistons provide symmetrical damping forces in both directions, making them the ideal choice for well-prepared track surfaces, asphalt, and manicured clay tracks where consistency is paramount. The inclusion of four pistons in this pack means you can experiment with different configurations, share spares with fellow RC enthusiasts, or maintain a complete set for multiple shock bodies across your RC car collection.

Key Features

  • Flat 16mm Factory Team Shock Pistons — These pistons deliver equal compression and rebound characteristics, providing consistent and predictable suspension response that is ideal for smooth racing surfaces where balanced damping is essential to achieving competitive lap times and stable handling.
  • 5x1.3mm Hole Configuration — The piston features five holes, each measuring 1.3mm in diameter, which can be further customised by drilling to larger diameters for even more advanced tuning options, allowing serious competitors to achieve micro-adjustments to their suspension behaviour.
  • Premium Delrin Construction — Machined from high-quality Delrin material, these pistons offer smooth, consistent performance with excellent durability and reliability, ensuring that your suspension tuning investments deliver repeatable results across multiple racing sessions and practice runs.
  • Set of Four Pistons — This pack supplies four pistons, providing multiple spares and enabling you to maintain several shock configurations or share components with fellow RC car enthusiasts in the UK RC community.
  • Adds Advanced Tuning Options — By selecting different piston configurations, you can fine-tune your RC8 series suspension to match changing track conditions, seasonal variations, and your evolving driving preferences, transforming shock piston selection into a critical part of your race-day setup routine.
  • Factory Team Specification — These are genuine Team Associated Factory Team components, engineered to the same exacting standards used in professional RC competition, ensuring that you're using proven, tested suspension components on your 1/8 scale RC buggy or truck.

Technical Performance

The Team Associated RC8B3 FT 16mm Shock Piston represents sophisticated suspension engineering delivered in a compact, precision-machined component. Crafted from high-quality Delrin material, these pistons are engineered to deliver smooth, consistent damping characteristics essential for competitive 1/8 scale RC buggy and truck racing. The 5x1.3mm hole configuration on these flat pistons means that suspension fluid flows through the piston with equal resistance during both compression and rebound strokes, creating the balanced damping curve that flat pistons are renowned for. This design philosophy makes them particularly suitable for smooth racing surfaces where consistent handling is more valuable than directional damping characteristics. The precision machining ensures that hole diameters are exact, maintaining consistency across all four pistons in this pack and guaranteeing repeatable suspension performance. For competitors seeking to extract maximum performance from their RC8B3.1, RC8B3.2, RC8T3.1 or RC8T3.2 vehicles, the ability to further customise these pistons by drilling the holes to larger diameters opens up virtually unlimited tuning possibilities. This micro-tuning capability, combined with the included four-piston set, transforms basic shock piston selection into an advanced suspension technology that separates competitive setups from standard configurations. The integration with 16mm shock bodies used across the RC8 series platform ensures straightforward installation and immediate compatibility with your existing suspension components.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between flat and tapered shock pistons for RC cars? — Flat pistons provide equal compression and rebound resistance, making them ideal for smooth racing surfaces and well-prepared tracks where consistent handling is essential. Tapered pistons, by contrast, feature directional resistance based on a taper angle — if the taper angle is set downward, the piston will have less resistance in rebound and more resistance during compression, making them better suited to rough or bumpy surfaces where directional damping is advantageous. For UK track racing on smooth asphalt or clay surfaces, flat pistons like the AS81201 are typically the preferred choice.
  • Which RC8 models are these shock pistons compatible with? — These FT 16mm flat shock pistons fit the RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, RC8B3.2e, RC8T3.1, RC8T3.1e, RC8T3.2 and RC8T3.2e vehicles. They are designed to work with 16mm shock bodies used across the entire RC8 series of 1/8 scale buggies and trucks, making them a versatile upgrade for owners of any compatible model.
  • Can I customise these shock pistons further? — Yes. According to Team Associated's official pro setup guidance, the piston holes can be drilled to larger diameters for even more tuning options. This micro-tuning capability allows advanced competitors to dial in precise damping characteristics that match their driving style, track conditions, and seasonal variations. For the RC8B3.2 running these front pistons, the holes could be opened to different sizes to increase suspension compliance or firmness as needed.
  • Why would I need four pistons in one pack? — The four-piston set allows you to create multiple tuning configurations, maintain spare components for your RC8 series vehicles, or share spares with fellow RC enthusiasts. You can also run different configurations across your fleet of RC buggies or trucks, keeping one set optimised for smooth track conditions and another for rougher surfaces.
  • What surfaces are flat pistons best suited for? — Flat shock pistons are ideal for smooth racing surfaces such as well-prepared asphalt tracks, clay circuits, and manicured on-road venues where consistent, balanced damping characteristics provide the best handling. Because they offer equal compression and rebound resistance, they excel in conditions where predictability and stability are more important than directional damping adjustability.
  • Are these genuine Team Associated parts? — Yes. The AS81201 is an authentic Team Associated Factory Team component, manufactured to the same precision standards used in professional RC competition. They feature the Team Associated manufacturing excellence and quality control that competitors worldwide rely on for dependable performance.
