Overview
The Team Associated RC8B4 FT Low Friction Shock X-Rings in 3.4 x 1.9mm (AS81187) represent a significant upgrade for serious 1/8 scale RC buggy and truck enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you are running an RC8B4, RC8B4e, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2e, or older RC8B3 generation models, these Factory Team shock seals are engineered to deliver measurably smoother damping performance and extended service life between rebuilds. If you are looking to improve the consistency and longevity of your RC car shocks without replacing the entire shock assembly, this is precisely the upgrade you have been searching for.
Manufactured by Team Associated, a recognised leader in competitive 1/8 scale RC vehicles, these low-friction X-rings are produced using custom tooling to ensure an exact fit for your shock system. The high-quality compound used in these rings is the same proven material featured in Associated's popular 1/10 scale X-rings, which have earned an excellent reputation among RC racers and hobbyists for their durability and performance benefits. By reducing friction within the shock, these X-rings allow the damping fluid to work more efficiently, resulting in smoother, more predictable suspension action across a wider range of racing conditions.
For UK RC enthusiasts who demand the best from their investment, upgrading to genuine Factory Team components like these shock X-rings is a cost-effective way to maintain peak performance and extend the intervals between full shock rebuilds. Whether you are preparing your RC buggy for competitive racing, weekend bashing, or casual track sessions, these precision-engineered seals will help you maintain the responsive, consistent feel that separates a well-tuned machine from an average one.
Key Features
- 3.4 x 1.9mm Size for Shock Application — These X-rings are specifically dimensioned for use in 1/8 scale shock systems, ensuring they fit perfectly without binding or leaking damping fluid, which would otherwise compromise shock performance and necessitate frequent rebuilds.
- Low-Friction Material Compound — The proprietary low-friction material reduces drag within the shock cylinder, allowing the damper to respond more smoothly and consistently to suspension inputs, resulting in better traction and more predictable handling characteristics during racing.
- Custom Tooling for Precise Fitment — Each X-ring is manufactured using dedicated custom tooling that ensures dimensional accuracy and perfect fit, eliminating the compatibility issues and leakage problems sometimes associated with generic or poorly-fitted aftermarket seals.
- High-Quality Material from Proven 1/10 Design — These rings use the same compound formulation that has been proven effective in Team Associated's 1/10 scale X-rings, providing confidence that this is battle-tested technology refined through years of competitive racing experience.
- Increased Performance and Extended Longevity — By reducing internal friction and maintaining a perfect seal, these X-rings help your shocks perform better and last longer before requiring a complete overhaul, saving you money on frequent shock rebuilds and downtime.
- Genuine Team Associated Factory Team Component — As an official Factory Team upgrade, you can be confident you are purchasing an authentic, manufacturer-backed component that meets the exact specifications required by your RC vehicle.
Technical Performance
The engineering behind these shock X-rings reflects Team Associated's deep understanding of 1/8 scale suspension dynamics. The 3.4 x 1.9mm cross-section is precisely engineered for the shock systems found in the RC8B4, RC8B4e, RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2e, and RC8B3 generation vehicles. The low-friction material compound is critical to performance: traditional rubber seals generate significant drag as the shock shaft moves through the damping fluid, which creates inconsistent damping rates and reduces the shock's ability to respond quickly to terrain changes. By switching to these Factory Team X-rings, you reduce that internal friction, allowing the suspension to behave more linearly and predictably across the full range of shaft movement. This is particularly important for competitive racers who need consistent performance lap after lap, but it is equally valuable for weekend bashers who want their vehicle to respond reliably to their driving inputs. The custom tooling ensures that the rings maintain a perfect seal against the shock shaft and cylinder walls, preventing the leakage of damping fluid that would otherwise force you into premature shock rebuilds. The high-quality compound is resistant to degradation from heat, UV exposure, and the various oils and solvents present in RC shock fluids, meaning these seals will maintain their performance characteristics across many seasons of use. Built to the same exacting standards as genuine Team Associated Factory Team products, these X-rings represent one of the most cost-effective upgrades available for serious 1/8 scale RC builders in the UK who want to maintain their equipment in peak condition.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will these X-rings fit my Team Associated RC8B4? — Yes, these are specifically designed for the RC8B4 and RC8B4e, as well as the RC8T3.2, RC8T3.2e, and older RC8B3 generation vehicles. The 3.4 x 1.9mm size is precisely engineered for these models' shock systems. Always verify your exact model before purchase to ensure compatibility.
- How do low-friction X-rings improve shock performance? — Low-friction X-rings reduce the drag created when the shock shaft moves through the damping fluid. This results in smoother, more consistent damping action, faster shock response to terrain changes, and more predictable vehicle handling. The reduced friction also helps maintain more uniform damping rates throughout the shock's travel range, which is crucial for competitive racing where consistency lap-to-lap is essential.
- How often should I replace these X-rings? — The lifespan of X-rings depends on how frequently you use your RC vehicle and the conditions in which you operate it. These Factory Team rings are engineered for longevity and help extend the overall service life of your shocks before requiring a full rebuild. Most racers replace shock seals as part of regular maintenance during annual rebuilds or when they notice a decrease in damping performance or signs of fluid leakage.
- What makes Factory Team X-rings different from standard seals? — Factory Team X-rings are manufactured using custom tooling specific to each application, ensuring perfect fit and dimensional accuracy. They use a proprietary low-friction compound that has been tested and proven in competitive racing. The material is formulated to resist degradation from shock fluids, heat, and UV exposure better than generic aftermarket alternatives, delivering superior longevity and consistent performance.
- Are these genuine Team Associated parts? — Yes, the AS81187 is an official Team Associated Factory Team component with the UPC code 784695811874. When you purchase from RC Model Shop, you are receiving a genuine, manufacturer-backed part with full compatibility assurance.
- Can I install these myself? — Installing X-rings requires disassembling your shocks and removing the old seals, then carefully installing the new rings without damaging them. If you are not experienced with shock service, we recommend having a qualified RC technician or hobby shop perform the installation to ensure proper fitment and avoid damaging the new seals. Improper installation can compromise the seal and lead to fluid leakage.
- What is the difference between shock X-rings and differential X-rings? — These are shock-specific X-rings with dimensions of 3.4 x 1.9mm. Team Associated also produces separate 5.8 x 1.9mm X-rings designed specifically for differentials to improve internal gear mesh and overall vehicle performance. Each application requires the correctly sized rings to function properly.
