Overview
The TEAM ASSOCIATED RC8B3/RC8B3.2 FT SHOCK TOWER, FRONT CARBON (AS81028) is a premium lightweight upgrade component designed specifically for the RC8B3 platform, one of the most respected 1/10 scale buggy chassis in the RC car UK community. This woven carbon fibre front shock tower represents a direct replacement for the standard aluminium part, engineered to deliver measurable performance gains through significant weight reduction. Whether you are a competitive racer looking to optimise your chassis setup, a weekend basher seeking every advantage, or an RC enthusiast committed to improving your RC buggy's handling characteristics, this genuine Team Associated FT upgrade offers an elegant solution that maintains factory-fresh aesthetics whilst delivering real-world benefits.
Built from quality woven carbon, the AS81028 front shock tower combines durability with minimal mass, making it an ideal choice for drivers who understand that lightweight RC components can improve acceleration, braking response, and overall chassis dynamics. This is not merely a cosmetic upgrade; it is a functional performance component that has been designed and tested by Team Associated to integrate seamlessly with the RC8B3 family of buggies. The carbon construction maintains structural integrity whilst shedding unnecessary weight, a principle that resonates throughout the professional RC racing community and is increasingly popular amongst UK RC enthusiasts seeking to maximise their vehicles' potential.
When combined with the complementary AS81029 lightweight rear shock tower, this front component forms part of a comprehensive weight-saving programme that delivers cumulative benefits across the entire chassis. RC Model Shop stocks this genuine Team Associated spare as part of our commitment to supporting the RC8B3 platform with authentic, manufacturer-approved upgrades that maintain your buggy's reliability and performance standards.
Key Features
- Woven Carbon Construction — The shock tower is crafted from genuine woven carbon fibre, a material renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. This means you gain the rigidity needed to maintain precise suspension geometry whilst eliminating the unnecessary mass that can slow acceleration and compromise handling in competitive RC buggy racing.
- 10g Weight Saving — By replacing the standard aluminium front tower, this component removes exactly 10 grams from your chassis, a saving that may seem modest in isolation but combines with other lightweight upgrades to produce meaningful improvements in throttle response, cornering speed, and overall performance in both track racing and open-field RC car use.
- Stackable with Rear Tower Option — When paired with the separate AS81029 lightweight rear shock tower, you achieve a total cumulative weight saving of 20 grams across the front and rear suspension mounting points. This comprehensive approach to weight reduction is particularly valuable for competitive drivers who are constantly seeking marginal gains that add up to real-world advantages during RC races and challenging driving sessions.
- Direct Replacement Part — Engineered as a genuine Team Associated FT upgrade component, the AS81028 simply removes and replaces the stock aluminium part with zero modifications required. Your existing suspension, shocks, and mounting hardware attach identically, meaning installation takes minutes and requires no special tools or expertise.
- Factory-Fresh Appearance — The woven carbon finish maintains the professional, factory-engineered look of your RC8B3 buggy whilst signalling your commitment to quality upgrades. Unlike some aftermarket parts that appear visually disconnected from the original design, this component integrates aesthetically with Team Associated's design language.
- Broad Compatibility — This front shock tower is confirmed to fit the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, and RC8B3.2e variants, making it a universal upgrade option for the entire RC8B3 family line. Whether you are running the latest RC8B3.2 or maintaining an older generation machine, this component provides reliable compatibility.
Technical Performance
The AS81028 front shock tower exemplifies modern RC component engineering principles where material science directly translates to performance advantages. Woven carbon fibre offers exceptional rigidity compared to its weight; the material provides structural support necessary to maintain precise suspension geometry during aggressive cornering, acceleration, and braking whilst contributing minimal mass to your overall chassis weight. This becomes increasingly important in competitive RC buggy racing where every gram impacts acceleration times, handling responsiveness, and energy efficiency. The 10-gram saving achieved by this single component represents approximately 3-5% of a typical RC8B3 buggy's total weight, a proportion that experienced drivers recognise as genuinely significant. The carbon weave construction also provides excellent durability, resisting the inevitable impacts and vibrations that occur during normal RC car operation, whether you are racing on groomed track facilities or bashing through off-road terrain. Team Associated's engineering ensures that this lightweight component does not compromise the structural integrity needed to safely manage the forces generated by modern brushless motors and aggressive driving techniques. The part maintains precise dimensional accuracy to original specifications, guaranteeing that your suspension mounting points, shock angles, and overall chassis geometry remain optimised for performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the AS81028 front shock tower easy to install on my RC8B3 buggy? — Yes, installation is straightforward and requires no special tools or modifications. The part is a direct replacement for the stock aluminium front shock tower; simply remove your existing component and mount the carbon version using your existing hardware. Most experienced RC car users can complete installation in under five minutes, though if you are new to RC buggy maintenance, the process provides an excellent introduction to chassis assembly work.
- How much weight does this component actually save? — The AS81028 front shock tower saves exactly 10 grams compared to the standard aluminium part. When paired with the AS81029 rear shock tower upgrade, you achieve a combined saving of 20 grams. Whilst this may sound modest, it represents a meaningful reduction in unsprung weight that improves acceleration response, braking performance, and overall handling dynamics, particularly in competitive racing scenarios where marginal gains compound into measurable advantages.
- Can I use this front shock tower with older RC8B3 generations? — Yes, this component maintains compatibility across the entire RC8B3 family, including the RC8B3, RC8B3e, RC8B3.1, RC8B3.1e, RC8B3.2, and RC8B3.2e variants. Team Associated designed the shock tower with consistent mounting geometry across these generations, ensuring reliable fitment regardless of which RC8B3 model you operate.
- What are the advantages of carbon over aluminium for RC buggy shock towers? — Carbon fibre offers a superior strength-to-weight ratio compared to aluminium, meaning this component provides equivalent structural support whilst weighing significantly less. Reduced weight improves acceleration, handling response, and energy efficiency. Additionally, the woven carbon finish provides aesthetic appeal that complements the professional appearance of the RC8B3 platform. Carbon is also extremely durable for RC car applications, resisting the repeated impacts and vibrations inherent in off-road and track-based RC driving.
- Should I upgrade both the front and rear shock towers? — Upgrading both components (AS81028 front and AS81029 rear) delivers a cumulative 20-gram weight saving and provides balanced weight reduction across the suspension system. Many competitive RC drivers opt for both upgrades to maximise performance benefits, though you can also upgrade individual components according to your priorities and budget.
- Is this a genuine Team Associated component? — Yes, the AS81028 is a genuine Team Associated upgrade part manufactured by the brand that engineered the RC8B3 platform. As an authorised Team Associated retailer, RC Model Shop stocks only authentic components with full manufacturer backing and warranty support.
