Overview

The Team Associated 13MM Rear Shock Springs in grey represent the cutting edge of RC truck suspension technology, bringing proven 13mm shock performance from the legendary RC10B6.4 buggy platform directly to your RC10T6.2 and RC10SC6.2 trucks. If you are serious about upgrading your RC truck UK setup with competition-grade suspension components, these springs deliver the performance and handling characteristics that experienced RC enthusiasts demand. The 13mm shock system is a game-changer for short-course and trophy truck racing, offering superior control and a more planted feel through every corner and landing.

Whether you are building a complete new 13mm shock system or converting your existing 12mm truck shocks, these grey rear springs with their 2.55 lb/in rate provide the perfect balance of compliance and support. The larger 13mm-bore piston design allows you to run lighter oils to achieve that supple, low-speed feeling of a soft shock whilst maintaining substantial pack and support during high-speed take-offs and aggressive landings. This is the kind of nuanced suspension tuning that separates competitive RC car UK drivers from casual bashers, and it is now available for your truck thanks to Team Associated's innovative 13mm system.

Measuring 72mm in length with 8.75T and 1.2D specifications, these springs are engineered to work seamlessly within the 13x36mm shock bodies that form the heart of the 13mm system. The improved bump absorption in and out of corners combined with that pillow-like landing character makes these springs essential for anyone looking to maximise their truck's handling potential on track or on the trail.

Key Features

  • 13mm Shock System Technology — These springs are part of Team Associated's advanced 13mm shock platform, which is inspired by the proven performance of the RC10B6.4 buggy and brings that same precision engineering to your truck suspension. The larger bore diameter allows for superior damping control compared to traditional 12mm systems.
  • 2.55 lb/in Spring Rate — The precisely calibrated 2.55 lb/in rate delivers a perfect balance between low-speed compliance and high-speed support, allowing your truck to absorb bumps smoothly whilst maintaining aggressive pack during jumps and landings for confident handling at all speeds.
  • 72mm Length with 8.75T and 1.2D Specification — These exact dimensions (L72, 8.75T, 1.2D) ensure perfect fitment and performance when paired with 13x36mm shock bodies, providing the correct preload and ride height characteristics for optimal truck geometry.
  • Lighter Oil Compatibility — The larger 13mm-bore piston design allows you to run lighter shock oils whilst still achieving substantial damping and support, giving you the low-speed sensitivity of a soft shock with the high-speed pack of a stiffer setup.
  • Improved Bump Absorption — Engineered to provide exceptional compliance over rough terrain and track obstacles, these springs soak up impacts in and out of corners, reducing chassis deflection and maintaining traction through technical sections.
  • Pillow-Like Landing Feel — The combination of spring rate and 13mm technology creates that cushioned landing sensation when your truck hits jumps at full throttle, packing up progressively for a secure, planted landing without harshness or bottoming out.
  • Conversion or New Build Compatible — Whether you are building a complete new 13mm shock system from scratch or converting your existing 12mm truck shocks, these springs provide the foundation for superior suspension performance and are part of an integrated system with complementary 54mm truck front springs and 13x36mm shock bodies.
  • Grey Colour Specification — The distinctive grey finish not only looks professional but also helps you identify 13mm system components at a glance when managing multiple sets of springs for different track conditions.

Technical Performance

These Team Associated 13MM Rear Shock Springs represent a significant engineering advancement in RC truck suspension design. The 13mm shock system takes inspiration from Team Associated's successful RC10B6.4 buggy platform, which has proven itself in competitive racing around the world. The key innovation is the larger 13mm-bore piston, which fundamentally changes how the spring and damper work together. Where traditional 12mm truck shocks use heavier oils to achieve adequate damping, the 13mm system allows you to run significantly lighter oils. This means that at low speeds, when the piston is moving slowly, the shock feels wonderfully compliant and supple, soaking up the small bumps and track imperfections that would otherwise upset your truck's balance. However, as speeds increase and the piston moves faster through the oil, the velocity-dependent nature of fluid damping means the shock naturally stiffens, providing the pack and support you need for confident jumps and hard landings. The 2.55 lb/in spring rate is precisely calculated to complement this 13mm piston action, creating a suspension that feels intuitive and predictable across the entire operating range. The 72mm length with 8.75T and 1.2D specifications ensures these springs work within 13x36mm shock bodies, which form part of the complete 13mm system alongside 54mm front springs for trucks. The engineering philosophy behind these springs recognises that RC truck drivers need suspension that can handle both the technical low-speed sections of a course (where compliance and traction matter most) and the high-speed jumps and berms (where support and pack are critical). By enabling lighter oil setups, these springs give you the flexibility to tune your truck's suspension characteristics precisely, whether you are racing short-course trucks like the RC10SC6.2 or tackling trophy truck courses with the RC10T6.2. The result is a truck that feels planted and confident, with improved bump absorption in corners and that distinctive pillow-like landing sensation that tells you the suspension is working in perfect harmony with your driving inputs.

What You Need to Complete

  • 13x36mm Shock Bodies — Required to use these springs; the 13mm shock body forms the core of the complete suspension system
  • Shock Oil — Lighter weight oils (typically 30-40 weight) work best with the 13mm system; specific viscosity recommendations depend on your track conditions and driving style
  • Team Associated RC10T6.2 or RC10SC6.2 Truck — These springs are designed for these specific models, though the 13mm system can be retrofitted to other compatible Associated trucks
  • 54mm Front Springs — For a complete 13mm suspension upgrade, matching front springs with the 54mm truck specification should be used alongside these 72mm rear springs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the advantage of 13mm shocks over traditional 12mm shocks for RC trucks? — The 13mm shock system uses a larger bore piston that allows you to run lighter oils whilst maintaining excellent damping characteristics. This creates a suspension that feels soft and compliant at low speeds (perfect for technical sections and bump absorption) whilst automatically stiffening at high speeds (providing the pack and support you need for jumps and aggressive landings). Traditional 12mm shocks require heavier oils to achieve damping, which can feel harsh and unresponsive.
  • Will these springs fit my existing 12mm truck shocks? — No, these springs are specifically designed for 13x36mm shock bodies that are part of the 13mm system. However, you can convert your existing 12mm truck shocks by upgrading to the complete 13mm system, which includes new shock bodies and compatible springs like this AS71165.
  • What vehicles do these springs fit? — These springs are designed for the Team Associated RC10SC6.2 short-course truck and the RC10T6.2 trophy truck, provided they are fitted with 13x36mm shock bodies. The springs can also be used in any other Associated truck that uses compatible 13x36mm shock bodies.
  • What is the 2.55 lb/in spring rate, and how does it compare to other rates? — Spring rate measures how much force is required to compress the spring by one inch. A 2.55 lb/in rate means the spring is relatively soft and responsive, making it ideal for soaking up bumps and providing a planted feel. Softer rates (lower numbers) provide more compliance and bump absorption, whilst stiffer rates (higher numbers) provide more aggressive pack and support. The 2.55 lb/in rate is a balanced choice for mixed track conditions.
  • Can I use these springs with lighter shock oils? — Yes, in fact that is one of the primary advantages of the 13mm system. The larger bore piston allows you to run lighter oils (typically 30-40 weight) compared to the heavier oils required in 12mm shocks. Lighter oils give you that supple low-speed feel whilst still providing support at high speeds.
  • What do the L72, 8.75T, and 1.2D specifications mean? — L72 refers to the 72mm length of the spring. 8.75T indicates the spring pitch or coil characteristics (number of turns), and 1.2D refers to the wire diameter. These specifications ensure the spring works perfectly within 13x36mm shock bodies and maintains proper preload and ride height.
  • Are these springs suitable for beginners? — These springs are part of a performance-oriented 13mm suspension system that is more commonly used by intermediate and advanced RC drivers who are pursuing competitive results. However, beginners with a good understanding of suspension tuning and access to the complete 13mm system could certainly use them. If you are new to RC trucks, you might want to consult with your local RC shop or start with a stock suspension setup before upgrading to this advanced system.
  • How do I know if I need to upgrade to 13mm shocks? — If you currently own an RC10SC6.2 or RC10T6.2 and are looking to improve handling, increase traction, and achieve a more planted feel through corners and landings, upgrading to the 13mm system is highly recommended. You will notice improved bump absorption and a more responsive, intuitive suspension feel.
