These precision-engineered shock bodies allow you to build completely new 13mm shocks or convert your existing 12mm truck shocks, elevating your RC car's performance across both smooth tracks and challenging terrain. Whether you're a weekend basher looking to improve your truck's handling or a serious RC enthusiast seeking competitive advantages, these shock bodies deliver the engineering excellence Team Associated is renowned for throughout the RC model hobby community in the UK and beyond.
The larger 13mm-bore design represents genuine innovation in suspension technology, derived from the proven performance of the RC10B6.4 buggy platform. This upgrade transforms how your truck absorbs impacts and manages energy transfer during aggressive driving, delivering a noticeably superior ride quality that makes a tangible difference in lap times and overall driving experience. For RC car UK enthusiasts who demand the best performance from their vehicles, these shock bodies offer the technical foundation needed to unlock your truck's full potential.
Team Associated has engineered these components to work seamlessly with your existing RC10T6.2 or RC10SC6.2, making the upgrade path straightforward and accessible. The shock bodies are manufactured to the exacting standards you'd expect from a brand with decades of competitive RC racing heritage, ensuring reliability and consistent performance across countless hours of driving.
Key Features
- 13mm-Bore Shock Body Design — The larger bore diameter compared to standard 12mm shocks allows you to use lighter damping oils, which creates a noticeably softer and more compliant feel through small bumps and track imperfections whilst maintaining the structural integrity needed for aggressive jumps and high-speed landings.
- Lighter Oil Compatibility — Running lighter oils in the 13mm bore creates a plush, responsive suspension feel during low-speed bump absorption, meaning your truck glides over small obstacles and track ripples rather than harshly jarring through them, improving driver comfort and control on rough surfaces.
- Increased Pack and Jump Performance — The engineering geometry of these shock bodies provides enhanced pack behaviour during take-off and landing sequences, translating to a controlled, pillow-like touchdown feeling that absorbs energy gradually rather than bottoming out suddenly, which is crucial for maintaining speed through technical terrain.
- Conversion or New Build Compatible — You can either build completely new 13mm shocks using these bodies or retrofit them to convert your existing 12mm truck shocks, giving you flexibility in how you approach the upgrade and allowing you to utilise components you may already own.
- 27.5mm Length Buggy Shock Compatibility — The truck front shocks ingeniously use the existing 27.5mm-length buggy rear shock length, meaning you don't need to source entirely new shock components and can leverage parts from associated buggy platforms.
- Available Spring Options — Team Associated supplies complementary 54mm truck front springs and 72mm truck rear springs specifically engineered to work in harmony with these 13mm shock bodies, ensuring your entire suspension system is balanced and optimised.
- RC10B6.4 Derived Technology — These shock bodies inherit proven suspension technology from the acclaimed RC10B6.4 buggy, a platform with extensive competitive racing credentials, meaning you're getting innovations developed and refined in the most demanding racing environments.
- Precision Engineering — Manufactured by Team Associated to exact tolerances, these shock bodies ensure consistent damping characteristics and reliable performance across multiple rebuild cycles, supporting long-term reliability and durability.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated AS71158 shock bodies represent a sophisticated approach to suspension tuning that addresses the fundamental challenge of creating a system that performs well across diverse driving conditions. The 13mm bore diameter is the key to understanding why these components represent such a meaningful upgrade over standard 12mm shocks. In suspension dynamics, bore size directly influences the surface area through which damping fluid passes the piston, which governs how quickly the shock responds to input and how progressively it builds resistance. The larger bore allows lower viscosity oils to achieve the same damping characteristics as heavier oils in smaller bores, creating a more linear and predictable response curve. This engineering approach was developed extensively for the RC10B6.4 buggy, where it proved capable of delivering both competitive race performance and user-friendly handling characteristics. The shock bodies are constructed from precision-engineered materials that withstand the repeated stress cycles of competitive RC driving, with internal passages and piston head designs optimised for smooth operation. The 27.5mm length specification for truck front shocks creates an elegant parts-sharing solution that reduces the number of unique components needed in your spares box whilst maintaining optimal geometry. When paired with the specified 54mm truck front and 72mm truck rear springs, the entire suspension system works in harmony, with spring rates and shock characteristics complementing each other to create a cohesive setup that delivers superior bump absorption through corners and controlled landings over jumps. This represents the level of integrated engineering that distinguishes Team Associated products in the competitive RC car UK market.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use these 13mm shock bodies on my RC10T6.2 or RC10SC6.2? — Yes, these shock bodies are specifically engineered for the RC10T6.2 and RC10SC6.2 platforms. They represent a direct upgrade that transforms your truck's suspension characteristics, delivering the 13mm shock technology proven on the RC10B6.4 buggy platform.
- What is the advantage of the larger 13mm bore over standard 12mm shocks? — The larger bore diameter allows you to run lighter damping oils whilst maintaining effective shock control, creating a plush low-speed feel through bumps combined with excellent pack behaviour during jumps and aggressive landings, which results in faster lap times and more forgiving handling.
- Do I need to buy new springs to use these shock bodies? — Whilst you can technically use existing springs, Team Associated recommends pairing these shock bodies with their engineered 54mm truck front and 72mm truck rear springs to optimise the entire suspension system and ensure proper balance and performance across all driving situations.
- Can I convert my existing 12mm shocks to use these 13mm bodies? — Yes, one of the key advantages of these shock bodies is that they support conversion builds, allowing you to retrofit them onto existing shock assemblies if you have the necessary internal components, though building fresh shocks with all new components is recommended for optimal performance and reliability.
- What type of damping oil should I use? — Because the larger 13mm bore allows lighter viscosity oils compared to 12mm shocks, you can experiment with oils in the light to medium range depending on your track conditions and driving style, with lighter oils providing more compliance and heavier oils offering more control.
- Are these shock bodies suitable for beginners? — Whilst the shock bodies themselves are durable and reliable, upgrading suspension systems typically requires mechanical knowledge of shock building and assembly, so they're best suited to intermediate and advanced RC enthusiasts who have experience with suspension tuning and maintenance.
- What makes these better than keeping standard 12mm shocks? — The 13mm bore design delivers noticeably superior performance through multiple performance metrics including bump absorption feel, jump landing control and overall grip consistency, particularly beneficial when running lighter oils that would be too compliant in 12mm bores, representing a meaningful performance uplift for competitive drivers.
