Frequently Asked Questions
- What exactly is a droop gauge and why do I need one for my RC touring car? — Droop is the measurement of how far down your suspension arms hang when the car is sitting on a flat surface with no weight applied. It's a critical suspension geometry setting that affects how your RC car's suspension compresses, how weight transfers through corners, and ultimately how well your car handles and grips the track. A droop gauge lets you measure and match your front and rear droop precisely, ensuring your suspension geometry is perfectly balanced. This leads to more predictable handling, better traction and more consistent lap times when racing your RC touring car.
- How do I use the Associated FT Droop Gauge AS3987? — Using this gauge is straightforward: place your RC car on a flat, level surface, then slide the gauge under the chassis to measure the height of your suspension arms. The gauge has 1mm step increments marked on it. Note which step your droop reaches, then adjust your shock limiters or droop screws accordingly until you achieve your target droop height. Repeat for both front and rear until they match, giving you perfectly balanced suspension geometry.
- Will this gauge work with my specific RC touring car model? — Yes, this tool is designed for universal compatibility with all touring car models. Whether you're running an Associated TC5, TC7.2, TC10, TC11, or touring cars from other manufacturers, this gauge will work with your RC car as long as it has adjustable droop via shock limiters or droop screws, which is standard on virtually all modern touring cars.
- Is the droop gauge difficult to use? — Not at all. The gauge is designed to be simple and intuitive. It requires no batteries, no assembly and no technical knowledge. Just slide it under your chassis and read the measurement. Adjust your car's droop screws or shock limiters until you reach your desired setting, then repeat for the other end of the car. It's one of the easiest and most useful setup tools you can own for your RC touring car.
- Do I need any other tools to use this gauge? — The gauge itself is all you need to measure droop. However, you will need a wrench or screwdriver to actually adjust your droop screws or shock limiters on your RC car, depending on which adjustment method your specific car uses.
- Why should I care about matching front and rear droop? — Unmatched front and rear droop creates asymmetrical suspension geometry, which can lead to unpredictable handling, inconsistent weight transfer and loss of grip. By using this gauge to match your front and rear droop exactly, you ensure your RC car behaves predictably in both directions and maintains optimal contact patch with the track surface, resulting in faster lap times and more enjoyable driving.
- Is this a professional-grade tool? — Yes. This is a genuine Associated Factory Team product, which means it's engineered to the same standards expected by professional RC racers and used in competitive racing environments worldwide. You're getting a tool designed and trusted by the best in the sport.
