Technical Performance
The stub axles and dogbones are fundamental drivetrain components in any precision on-road RC car. The stub axle connects the wheel hub to the suspension knuckle whilst the dogbones (also called drive shafts or CVD shafts depending on design) transmit rotational force from the differential to each wheel. In the Apex 2's on-road platform, these components experience continuous high-frequency stress from acceleration, braking, and cornering forces. Team Associated engineers these parts from robust materials selected to withstand the demands of on-road running whilst maintaining the precise tolerances required for smooth operation and predictable handling. The connection points are engineered to factory specifications to ensure correct suspension geometry, wheel alignment, and driveability characteristics. Over time, components can wear from repeated use, developing microscopic play that accumulates into noticeable looseness in the drivetrain—this manifests as imprecise steering response, uneven tyre wear, or a feeling of vagueness in the vehicle's motion. Replacing these components with genuine OEM parts restores the precise engineering that made your Apex 2 responsive and reliable. The stub axles and dogbones work in concert with your suspension system, and maintaining them in factory condition is essential for consistent on-road performance, whether you're chasing lap times at a local track or simply enjoying your RC car UK hobby on a weekend.
