The 4x1.1G grooved specification has been engineered to deliver precise damping characteristics that complement the TC7.1's suspension geometry and chassis dynamics. If you're serious about getting the best from your RC car UK setup, maintaining your suspension components with genuine parts is non-negotiable. These pistons are the perfect example of why choosing OEM spares makes a measurable difference to your racing experience.
Key Features
- Genuine Team Associated OEM Parts — These are official factory-produced components designed and manufactured to the exact specifications required by Team Associated, ensuring perfect compatibility and performance with your TC7.1 touring car, with no risk of fitment issues or performance degradation.
- 4x1.1G Grooved Specification — The specific grooved profile design optimises oil flow characteristics through the piston, allowing for precise control of damping force and response across a wide range of track conditions, making them essential for maintaining consistent handling whether you're racing or bashing.
- Matched Set of Four — Supplied as a complete four-piston set ensures that all four shocks on your TC7.1 receive identical, balanced components, which is critical for maintaining symmetrical suspension behaviour and predictable handling characteristics across the vehicle.
- Direct Replacement Component — Designed as a straightforward swap for worn or damaged pistons, these require no modification, special tools, or technical expertise beyond basic suspension maintenance knowledge, making them ideal for keeping in your pit box for quick trackside repairs.
- Pit Box Essential — Any serious RC car enthusiast operating a TC7.1 should maintain a spare set of quality shock pistons, as these wear components can deteriorate with regular use, and having ready replacements means zero downtime between races or practice sessions.
Technical Performance
The Team Associated TC7.1 Shock Pistons represent precision engineering at its finest. The 4x1.1G grooved design is the result of extensive development and testing by Team Associated's engineering team, and has been proven effective in maintaining consistent damping characteristics across a wide variety of track conditions. The grooved profile plays a crucial role in shock performance: the grooves are engineered to allow controlled oil flow through the piston, which directly influences how quickly the shock absorbs and dissipates energy from bumps and compressions. This controlled flow is what separates quality OEM pistons from inferior alternatives. The 4x1.1G specification represents an optimal balance point that has been established for the TC7.1 platform—heavier pistons would create slower damping response and reduce feedback, whilst lighter pistons would allow too-rapid oil flow and produce unpredictable handling. The 1.1 gram weight specification is precisely calibrated to work in harmony with the TC7.1's suspension geometry, spring rates, and oil viscosity specifications. For RC touring car racing, where track surfaces vary from smooth asphalt to slightly textured concrete, and where conditions can change between qualifiers and finals, having shocks with pistons that maintain their original geometry is essential. Worn pistons develop micro-scratches and lose their precise profile, which causes inconsistent damping behaviour and makes the car feel unpredictable. Regular inspection and replacement of shock pistons is a best-practice maintenance routine followed by every professional and semi-professional TC7.1 racer. These genuine Team Associated parts ensure that when you do replace your pistons, you're installing components that meet the exact same engineering standards as your original equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these shock pistons compatible with my TC7.1 touring car? — Yes, the AS31748 pistons are manufactured specifically for the Team Associated TC7.1 platform and represent the genuine OEM component. They are designed to work seamlessly with the TC7.1's suspension system, dampers, and shock bodies without any modification or adaptation required.
- How often should I replace my shock pistons? — Shock piston wear depends entirely on your usage pattern. Racers who compete regularly may replace pistons several times per season, as high-mileage use causes progressive wear to the piston surface. Casual weekend bashers may find their pistons last much longer. The best practice is to inspect your pistons regularly and replace them whenever you notice scratches, scoring, or any visible wear on the surface, or if you notice your shocks feeling inconsistent or unpredictable in their response.
- What is the difference between grooved and non-grooved pistons? — The grooved design optimises oil flow characteristics through the piston. Grooved pistons typically allow for slightly more controlled and progressive damping response compared to smooth pistons, as the grooves create specific oil flow channels. The 4x1.1G grooved specification for the TC7.1 has been engineered to deliver the optimal balance of responsiveness and consistency for this platform.
- Can I use aftermarket pistons instead of genuine Team Associated parts? — Whilst aftermarket alternatives may seem appealing from a cost perspective, genuine OEM pistons are engineered to exact specifications and manufactured to exacting quality standards. Using non-OEM pistons risks introducing unpredictable handling characteristics, poor fitment, and potential damage to your shock bodies. For competitive racing, only genuine parts will deliver the consistent performance required.
- How do I know if my shock pistons need replacing? — Signs of piston wear include visible scratches or scoring on the piston surface, inconsistent shock response, or a feeling that your shocks are not damping properly. If you've been running your TC7.1 heavily for several months, it's wise to inspect the pistons and replace them proactively, even if wear isn't immediately obvious.
- Do I need any special tools to install these pistons? — Installation of shock pistons requires only basic RC car maintenance tools and knowledge. You'll need to be able to disassemble your shock bodies, remove the old piston, and install the new one. If you're unfamiliar with this procedure, we recommend consulting the Team Associated TC7.1 manual or asking an experienced RC car club member for guidance.
