Overview

The Associated Reflex 14B/14T Shock Springs 2.25 lb/in 40.5mm (AS21533) are precision-engineered suspension components designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand fine-tuned performance from their 1/10 scale buggies and truggies. Whether you're competing at your local RC track or enjoying weekend bashing sessions across the UK, these shock springs play a vital role in dialling in your suspension setup for optimal handling, stability and ride quality. As an essential spare part for the Associated Reflex 14B, 14T, 14MT Monster Truck, 14B Ongaro and 14B Buggy platforms, these springs represent the quality and precision engineering Associated is renowned for in the RC racing community.

Choosing the correct shock spring rate is one of the most important steps in suspension tuning for any RC car UK setup. The spring rate affects how your model responds to bumps, jumps and cornering loads, directly influencing traction, stability and steering feel across different track surfaces. The 2.25 lb/in rate paired with the compact 40.5mm length makes these springs a practical and straightforward solution when you need a defined spring rate in this specific format. Whether you're looking to soften your suspension for high-grip surfaces or adjust ride height for better clearance, these shock springs give you the control you need to optimise your vehicle's performance.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine Associated spares and upgrades, ensuring you receive authentic components that meet factory specifications. By selecting the correct spring rate for your track conditions and driving style, you can dramatically improve how your RC buggy or truggy handles, making these springs an excellent investment for anyone serious about RC performance in the UK.

Key Features

  • Precisely Engineered 2.25 lb/in Spring Rate — This spring rate has been specifically designed to deliver a balanced response across a variety of track surfaces and conditions, providing consistent performance whether you're racing on tarmac, concrete, dirt or grass. A matched spring rate ensures predictable suspension behaviour, which is essential for building confidence in your driving and achieving competitive lap times.
  • 40.5mm Compact Length — The 40.5mm length is optimised for the Reflex platform, ensuring proper suspension geometry and ride height when installed correctly. This length works in harmony with the rest of your suspension components to maintain the designed suspension travel and anti-squat characteristics of your model.
  • Consistent Performance and Reliability — As genuine Associated parts, these shock springs are manufactured to strict quality standards, ensuring consistent spring rates over extended use. This reliability means you can trust your suspension tuning from practice runs through to race day, without worrying about springs losing their rate or becoming inconsistent.
  • Fine-Tuning Capability — By selecting different spring rates, you have the ability to fine-tune your suspension setup for specific track conditions, weather and driving styles. Softer springs improve traction on slippery surfaces, whilst stiffer springs improve stability on high-grip tracks and reduce body roll during aggressive cornering.
  • Universal Compatibility with Reflex Range — These shock springs are compatible with the Reflex 14B, Reflex 14T, Reflex 14MT Monster Truck, Reflex 14B Ongaro and Reflex 14B Buggy variants, making them an essential spare for anyone running Associated's Reflex platform. This wide compatibility means a single set can work across multiple models or be kept as a spare for race day emergencies.
  • Easy Installation and Adjustment — Shock springs are straightforward to install, requiring only basic tools and a few minutes of your time. This means you can quickly test different spring rates and find the optimal setup for your local track conditions without extensive downtime between runs.

Technical Performance

The Associated Reflex 14B/14T Shock Springs deliver the precision engineering expected from one of the RC industry's most respected manufacturers. At 2.25 lb/in, these springs provide a moderately soft suspension setup that excels at maintaining traction whilst keeping the chassis stable through high-speed corners. The 40.5mm length has been carefully calculated to work with the Reflex platform's suspension geometry, ensuring you get proper suspension travel without binding or bottoming out excessively during aggressive driving. The springs are engineered to maintain consistent spring rate over thousands of compression cycles, meaning your suspension tuning remains reliable throughout extended racing seasons or regular bashing sessions. Associated's manufacturing expertise ensures these springs will perform as expected race after race, allowing you to focus on improving your driving rather than worrying about equipment performance. The material composition and heat treatment of these springs maximise durability whilst maintaining the precise spring characteristics required for competitive RC racing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are these shock springs suitable for my Associated Reflex RC buggy? — Yes, these springs are compatible with the Reflex 14B, Reflex 14T, Reflex 14MT Monster Truck, Reflex 14B Ongaro and Reflex 14B Buggy models. If you own any of these variants, these springs will fit your vehicle. Always verify your specific model before purchasing to ensure complete compatibility.
  • What is the difference between 2.25 lb/in and other spring rates? — Spring rate is measured in pounds of force per inch of compression. The 2.25 lb/in rate means you need 2.25 pounds of force to compress the spring one inch. This is a moderately soft rate—lower numbers (like 1.5 or 1.8 lb/in) compress more easily for better traction on low-grip surfaces, whilst higher rates (like 2.75 or 3.0 lb/in) compress less and provide more support for high-grip tracks. Choosing the correct rate for your track conditions is key to optimal handling.
  • How do I know if I need these shock springs? — If your Associated Reflex is feeling either too soft and wallowy through corners, or too stiff and bouncy over bumps, it may be time to experiment with different spring rates. If your current springs have lost their rate after extended use, replacement is essential. Having spare springs in different rates also allows you to quickly adapt to changing track conditions at racing events.
  • Can I use these on other RC car models? — These springs are specifically designed for the Associated Reflex platform. Whilst the 40.5mm length may physically fit some other vehicles, using them outside the intended platform could result in poor handling, suspension geometry issues and reduced performance. Always use springs designed for your specific model.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Properly maintained shock springs can last for hundreds of hours of use. However, springs can lose their rate over time due to compression and fatigue. If you notice your suspension feels less responsive or your vehicle sits lower than before, it may be time to replace your springs. Competitive racers often change springs regularly to ensure consistent performance.
  • What tools do I need to install these springs? — Shock spring installation is straightforward and requires only basic tools including a hex driver or Allen key set, and possibly a spring compressor tool to safely remove the old springs and install new ones. Most RC enthusiasts can complete this task in under 10 minutes per shock.
