The RC4WD R8 Micro Transmission with F130 Micro Motor (Z-U0023) is a precision-engineered drivetrain solution designed specifically for 1/24 micro-scale RC applications. This compact yet robust transmission system delivers the power and control needed for serious hobbyists and enthusiasts working with ultra-small RC vehicles. Whether you're building a custom 1/24 scale crawler, upgrading an existing micro RC car, or looking for a high-quality transmission system for your next project, this RC4WD component represents professional-grade engineering in a tiny package.
RC4WD has established itself as a trusted name in the UK RC hobby community, known for producing authentic scale components and durable drivetrain solutions. The R8 Micro Transmission is no exception, combining traditional RC engineering excellence with modern manufacturing techniques to create a transmission that enthusiasts and builders genuinely rely on. For anyone serious about micro-scale RC vehicles, having a quality transmission system is essential — it's the heart of your vehicle's drivetrain, and this RC4WD unit delivers performance you can count on.
This complete transmission package includes everything you need to integrate it into your build, from mounting pins and o-rings to self-tapping screws and even a sim tray ejector pin for precision assembly. It's the kind of attention to detail that separates professional RC components from budget alternatives, and it's why serious builders choose RC4WD for their 1/24 micro projects.
Key Features
- Plastic Injection Moulded Case — The transmission housing is manufactured using plastic injection moulding, which provides excellent precision, durability and weight efficiency for micro-scale applications. This manufacturing process ensures tight tolerances and consistent quality across every unit, which is crucial when working with components at this scale.
- F130 Micro Electric Motor — The integrated F130 micro electric motor is purpose-built for 1/24 scale RC vehicles, delivering reliable and controllable power output. This dedicated micro motor eliminates the need for separate motor sourcing and ensures perfect compatibility with the transmission design.
- 16:1 T-Case Gear Ratio — The transmission features a 16:1 gear ratio in the transfer case, providing substantial torque multiplication and control that's ideal for crawling, precision driving and low-speed manoeuvring in micro-scale applications. This ratio gives you excellent pulling power while maintaining smooth, controllable operation.
- Full Ball Bearings Throughout — Every rotating component within the transmission runs on full ball bearings, which dramatically reduces friction, extends component lifespan and ensures smooth, efficient power delivery. Ball bearings are a hallmark of quality RC components and make a noticeable difference in drivetrain performance and reliability.
- 2.0mm Output Shaft — The output shaft measures 2.0mm in diameter (0.07 inches), which is the industry standard for 1/24 micro-scale RC vehicles. This precise shaft diameter ensures proper fitment with standard micro-scale driveshafts, axles and wheel hubs.
- Lightweight at 27.7g — Weighing just 27.7 grams (0.97 ounces), this transmission is engineered to minimise vehicle weight, which improves acceleration, handling and overall performance in small-scale RC applications. In the micro-scale world, every gram counts, and this lightweight design is a significant advantage.
- Compact Dimensions — At just 46mm long, 33mm tall and 28mm wide, the transmission fits perfectly into tight engine bays and chassis designs typical of 1/24 scale RC vehicles. These small dimensions make integration into custom builds and existing platforms straightforward and efficient.
Technical Performance
The RC4WD R8 Micro Transmission represents a significant engineering achievement in miniaturised drivetrain design. Built with a plastic injection moulded case that's both rigid and lightweight, the transmission housing provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio essential for micro-scale RC cars. The inclusion of the F130 micro electric motor eliminates compatibility concerns and ensures optimal performance from the moment you unbox the unit. The 16:1 transfer case gear ratio is particularly well-suited to 1/24 micro vehicles, providing the torque multiplication needed for challenging terrain whilst maintaining the precise control that separates skilled drivers from novices.
The full ball bearing installation throughout the transmission is a feature that genuinely distinguishes this component from budget alternatives. Ball bearings reduce rotational friction to a minimum, which means more of your motor's power reaches the wheels rather than being wasted in the drivetrain itself. This translates directly to better acceleration, faster responsiveness and improved overall efficiency. The 2.0mm output shaft is manufactured to tight tolerances and integrates seamlessly with standard 1/24 micro-scale drivetrain components, whilst the overall weight of 27.7 grams keeps your vehicle's centre of gravity low and ensures responsive handling characteristics. At just 46mm in length, 33mm in height and 28mm in width, this transmission was engineered specifically for the spatial constraints of micro-scale RC vehicles, yet it delivers professional-grade performance that matches or exceeds much larger drivetrain systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the RC4WD R8 Micro Transmission suitable for beginners? — Yes, whilst this is a high-quality component requiring some mechanical assembly knowledge, the included hardware (pins, o-rings, self-tapping screws) and clear engineering make installation straightforward for anyone with basic RC building experience. The full ball bearing construction and F130 motor provide reliable, maintenance-free operation that beginning builders will appreciate, and the compact size actually makes working with the component easier than larger transmissions.
- What scale vehicle can this transmission be used in? — The RC4WD R8 Micro Transmission is specifically designed for 1/24 micro-scale RC vehicles. The 2.0mm output shaft, 46mm length and all component sizing are engineered exclusively for this scale, making it the ideal choice for 1/24 crawlers, scale models and precision micro RC builds.
- What is the gear ratio and what does it mean for performance? — The transmission features a 16:1 transfer case gear ratio, meaning the output shaft rotates 16 times slower than the motor input. This substantial gear reduction provides excellent torque multiplication, ideal for low-speed crawling, obstacle negotiation and precision driving. The trade-off is lower top speed, but in micro-scale applications, the improved control and pulling power make this ratio perfect for serious builders.
- Is assembly difficult? — The RC4WD R8 Micro Transmission arrives as a complete, pre-assembled unit ready for installation into your vehicle. The included hardware (pins, o-rings and self-tapping screws) is provided for integration into your chassis or transmission case. Assembly experience will depend on your specific vehicle platform, but the transmission itself requires no complex building — it's ready to use.
- What makes this better than budget transmission options? — Several factors distinguish this RC4WD transmission from lower-cost alternatives: the plastic injection moulded case provides superior precision and durability compared to cheaper casting methods; the full ball bearing installation throughout dramatically reduces friction and extends lifespan compared to plain bushings; the integrated F130 micro motor eliminates sourcing and compatibility concerns; and the engineering pedigree of RC4WD components means superior reliability and performance. For anyone serious about their micro RC vehicle, the quality difference is immediately apparent.
- What battery type and size does this need? — Battery requirements depend on your complete vehicle build, motor specifications and desired runtime. The F130 micro motor is designed for micro-scale applications, and your battery selection should be determined by your specific RC vehicle platform's requirements and the ESC you've chosen. Consult your chassis manufacturer or an RC specialist at RC Model Shop for specific battery recommendations for your build.
- Can this transmission be used as a replacement? — Yes, if you're upgrading an existing 1/24 micro RC vehicle, the 2.0mm output shaft and compact dimensions make this transmission a suitable replacement for compatible 1/24 platforms. Ensure your current driveshafts, axles and chassis are designed for 2.0mm output shafts before purchasing as a replacement component.
- How durable is this transmission? — The combination of injection moulded plastic case, full ball bearing construction and quality motor internals makes this a durable component capable of handling regular use and challenging terrain. The plastic case is engineered for impact resistance whilst the ball bearings ensure smooth operation and longevity. Proper maintenance and occasional re-greasing of bearing points will keep this transmission operating smoothly for years.
