Technical Performance

The Savox SC0252MG+ is engineered with brushed motor technology and represents a significant step up in performance and durability compared to entry-level servos. At 6V operation, this servo delivers 10.5kg of torque with a response time of just 0.19 seconds per 60 degrees, making it more than capable of handling the demands of 30-60 size RC aircraft and steering applications on 1/8th scale buggies and cars. The metal gear construction provides the durability needed for sustained operation without the wear and slippage problems associated with plastic gears. The servo operates on a 240Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth, responsive control without the stuttering or lag that can occur with slower servo systems. With a 120-degree standard operating travel (1000-2000 microsecond pulse width) and maximum travel approaching 164 degrees, this servo offers excellent range for most RC applications. The servo draws 300mA under no-load conditions at 4.8V and 330mA at 6V, with stall current reaching 1700mA at 6V when fully loaded, allowing you to properly size your receiver battery and power distribution system. The 300mm servo lead length provides adequate reach for most installation scenarios, whilst the brushed motor design offers proven reliability that has made Savox a trusted name amongst RC enthusiasts worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Savox SC0252MG+ suitable for beginners in the RC hobby? — Yes, whilst this servo is more advanced than basic plastic-geared alternatives, it remains straightforward to install and operate for newcomers to RC. The standard servo size and 25-tooth spline are widely compatible with aftermarket components, and the metal gear construction actually makes it more forgiving under imperfect operating conditions. Beginners benefit from the superior reliability and longevity compared to cheaper alternatives, making it a wise investment for your first serious RC projects.
  • What battery voltage should I use with this servo? — The SC0252MG+ is designed to operate at both 4.8V and 6V, though it delivers peak performance at 6V where you get the full 10.5kg torque and 0.19-second response time. Standard receiver battery packs at 4.8V nominal (typical NiMH) or 6V nominal (typical LiPo) work excellently. Many experienced RC enthusiasts prefer 6V LiPo packs for the increased torque and responsiveness, though ensure your receiver and other servos are rated for the voltage you choose.
  • What applications is this servo best suited for? — Savox specifically recommends the SC0252MG+ for 30-60 size RC aircraft and various car applications, particularly steering duties on 1/8th scale buggies. The metal gear construction and substantial torque make it excellent for aerobatic flying where precise, responsive control is essential, and for ground vehicles where reliable steering response directly impacts handling and driver experience. Avoid using this servo in corrosive salt water environments without proper sealing, as it is not fully waterproof.
  • How does the SC0252MG+ Plus variant differ from the standard SC0252MG? — The Plus variant adds two important features: Soft Start Mode, which smoothly ramps up servo movement to reduce mechanical shock and extend component lifespan, and Sanwa SSR compatibility, allowing seamless integration with Sanwa radio systems for enhanced control possibilities. The core performance specifications remain identical, so your choice should be based on whether you use Sanwa equipment or want the benefits of Soft Start Mode.
  • Is this servo waterproof for RC boats or water-based applications? — The SC0252MG+ is not fully waterproof and is not recommended for marine applications or use in wet environments. Whilst the metal gears provide excellent corrosion resistance compared to some alternatives, water ingress can damage the brushed motor and electronics. For water-based RC, you should consider fully waterproofed servo options.
  • What is the servo lead wire length and connector type? — The servo includes a 300mm lead wire (±5mm tolerance) with a standard servo connector, providing adequate reach for most installation scenarios. If you require an extension, standard servo extension cables are available from RC retailers and will work seamlessly with this servo.
  • Does this servo include a warranty? — Yes, all Savox servos, including the SC0252MG+, are backed by a comprehensive 1-year warranty from the date of purchase. This gives you confidence in your investment and demonstrates Savox's commitment to standing behind their products with genuine support.
  • What makes metal gears better than plastic gears in servos? — Metal gears offer significantly greater durability and resistance to wear compared to plastic alternatives. They maintain precise gear mesh and tooth engagement through thousands of operating hours, preventing the slippage and deterioration that occurs when plastic gears wear. Under heavy loads or harsh operating conditions, metal gears ensure consistent torque delivery and response, justifying the investment in this higher-quality servo.
