Overview

The RPM Pinion Holder in black is an essential pit gadget for any serious RC car enthusiast in the UK. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your brushless RC buggy or a weekend basher experimenting with different gear ratios, this cleverly engineered storage solution keeps your pinion gears organised, protected and instantly identifiable. RPM has designed this enclosed pinion case to be both practical and user-friendly, eliminating the frustration of loose pinions rolling around your pit box or workshop.

For anyone running multiple RC cars or experimenting with different setups, pinion management can become chaotic. This moulded case solves that problem by holding up to 15 pinion gears safely and securely, with each pinion sitting on its own individual post. The design is intuitive—there's no need to tighten a setscrew to hold your pinions in place, making it quick and easy to swap gears between sessions. The case is made from durable black plastic that resists wear and tear, keeping your valuable gears protected from damage, dust and loss.

What sets this pinion holder apart is its comprehensive reference system. RPM includes a peel-off decal sheet featuring gear ratio charts for both 48 and 64 pitch gears—the two most common specifications in RC racing. These reference charts can be placed in the recessed area on the bottom of the case for quick consultation during setup. The decal sheet also includes numbered squares ranging from 14 to 31 teeth, which you can adhere to the inside of the case to label your pinions. Ten blank squares are also included so you can write in your own custom numbers if needed, making this system adaptable to your specific fleet of RC cars.

Key Features

  • Holds 15 Pinion Gears — This case has the capacity to store a substantial collection of pinions, making it ideal for serious RC racers who run multiple cars or experiment frequently with different gear ratios to optimise performance across varying track conditions.
  • Individual Posts for Each Pinion — Each pinion sits on its own dedicated post within the case, preventing them from rolling together, getting mixed up or rubbing against each other, which could cause damage or wear to the gear teeth.
  • No Setscrew Required — Unlike many pinion holders that require you to tighten a setscrew to secure each gear, this RPM design holds pinions safely without any tightening, saving you time and frustration during pit stops and gear changes.
  • Enclosed Design Protects Gears — The fully enclosed case shields your valuable pinions from dust, dirt, moisture and accidental damage, extending their lifespan and keeping them in pristine condition for consistent performance.
  • Included Gear Ratio Reference Charts — Two laminated decal charts for 48 and 64 pitch gears are included, allowing you to quickly reference the correct spur-to-pinion ratios without searching for external documentation, essential information when setting up your brushless RC car for different tracks.
  • Numbered Identification Stickers — Pre-printed numbered squares from 14 to 31 teeth let you label each pinion directly in the case, plus ten blank squares for custom markings, making it instantly obvious which gear is which at a glance during setup changes.
  • Recessed Bottom Area — The bottom of the case features a recessed area specifically designed to hold the reference decals flat and accessible, keeping your gear ratio information organised and right where you need it.
  • Durable Black Plastic Construction — Made from tough moulded plastic, the case is built to withstand the demands of regular RC use, storage and transport without cracking or deforming, ensuring years of reliable service in your pit box.

Technical Performance

The RPM Pinion Holder is engineered with attention to both form and function, combining practical storage with useful reference information. The moulded black plastic construction provides excellent durability whilst remaining lightweight enough to throw in your pit bag or workshop. The case measures 3 5/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches by 15/16 inches, giving it a compact footprint that doesn't take up unnecessary space whilst still offering surprising storage capacity. The fifteen individual posts are evenly spaced and designed to hold standard RC pinions securely without any mechanical fasteners, relying instead on a clever retention design that keeps gears from rolling or shifting during transport. The recessed area on the bottom is perfectly proportioned to accommodate the included decal charts, creating a flat reference surface that remains visible and readable without interfering with the pinion storage above. For RC enthusiasts running electric or brushless RC cars, proper gearing is absolutely critical to achieving the right balance between acceleration, top speed and overall performance. This holder makes it simple to maintain and identify multiple pinion options, whether you're experimenting with aggressive low-geared setups for torque-heavy racing or higher geared ratios for top-end speed on more open tracks. The inclusion of gear ratio charts for both 48 and 64 pitch gears covers the vast majority of RC car applications, from 1/10 scale buggies to larger vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many pinions does this holder store? — The RPM Pinion Holder has the capacity to safely store and organise up to 15 individual pinion gears, making it an excellent choice for RC car owners who run multiple vehicles or frequently experiment with different gear ratios.
  • Do I need to use setscrews to hold pinions in place? — No, one of the key advantages of this design is that there are no setscrews required. Each pinion sits securely on its own post without any mechanical fasteners, making it faster and easier to install or remove gears during setup.
  • What gear ratios does this case support? — The included reference charts cover pinion-to-spur gear ratios for both 48 and 64 pitch gears, which are the two most common standards in RC racing. The charts can be placed in the recessed area on the bottom of the case for quick reference during setup.
  • Can I label my own pinion sizes? — Yes, the decal sheet includes numbered squares from 14 to 31 teeth that you can apply to the inside of the case, plus ten blank squares where you can write your own numbers or notes with a permanent marker, making the case fully customisable to your specific fleet.
  • Is this case suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The RPM Pinion Holder is ideal for beginners because it takes the guesswork out of pinion organisation and includes reference charts that help you understand gear ratios. As you develop your RC skills and start experimenting with different setups, this case will grow with you and keep your gears properly organised.
  • What is the size of this case? — The pinion holder measures 3 5/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches by 15/16 inches, making it compact enough to fit easily in a pit box, toolkit or workshop without taking up significant space.
  • Is the case waterproof? — Whilst the enclosed design provides good protection from dust and accidental damage, the case is not sealed or waterproof. It's best suited for workshop storage and dry pit use rather than exposed outdoor use in wet conditions.
  • What makes this different from other pinion holders? — The RPM Pinion Holder stands out due to its combination of features: fifteen-pinion capacity, no setscrews required, included gear ratio reference charts, and customisable labelling system. Together, these features make pinion management much faster and more organised than basic storage solutions.
