Key Features
- USB-Powered Charging — This charger draws power directly from any standard USB source (5V DC input at 500mA maximum), eliminating the need for dedicated mains power outlets and making it perfectly suited for charging at home, in the office, or even from portable power banks, which massively increases your flexibility when managing your RC car UK collection.
- 8.4V Output for 2S LiPo Batteries — The fixed 8.4V output is precisely calibrated for safely and efficiently charging 2-cell LiPo battery packs, the industry-standard power source for entry-level and intermediate ready to run RC vehicles, ensuring your batteries receive the correct voltage every single time.
- Optimised 150mA Charge Rate — The moderate 150mA charging current provides a safe, balanced approach to battery charging that minimises stress on your LiPo cells whilst still delivering reasonably quick top-ups between runs, extending battery lifespan and maintaining performance consistency.
- Compact and Portable Design — The small form factor makes this charger incredibly portable, allowing you to keep it in your RC bag, at the field, or in your vehicle without taking up valuable space, making spontaneous charging sessions convenient whenever your batteries need a refresh.
- Simple Operation — With no complicated programming or multiple charging profiles to manage, this straightforward charger simply connects your 2S battery and lets the fixed parameters handle the rest, making it ideal for beginners and experienced RC enthusiasts alike who value simplicity and reliability.
- Official ROC Hobby Product — As a genuine manufacturer item, you're getting an authentic charger engineered to the exacting standards ROC Hobby applies to their Atlas and Katana platforms, ensuring compatibility and reliability that aftermarket alternatives simply cannot guarantee.
Technical Performance
The ROC Hobby Atlas/Katana 8.4V USB Charger represents solid engineering in portable RC charging technology. With its 5V DC input specification accepting a maximum of 500mA, the charger is designed to work with virtually any USB power source including standard computer USB ports, dedicated USB wall chargers, and portable power banks—a genuinely flexible approach to keeping your 2S LiPo batteries charged. The 8.4V output at 150mA charging current is specifically optimised for 2-cell lithium polymer batteries, the standard power source for countless ready to run RC vehicles across the UK market. This fixed voltage and current approach eliminates the risk of overcharging or applying incorrect voltages, which can damage expensive LiPo packs or reduce their operational lifespan. The engineering behind this charger prioritises safety and simplicity over feature complexity, delivering a tool that consistently performs its core function with reliability. For RC enthusiasts operating brushless or brushed electric RC cars, trucks, and buggies powered by 2S LiPo configurations, this charger provides dependable performance that you can trust day after day. The moderate charge rate of 150mA ensures that whilst charging times are reasonable, the charging process is gentle on your battery cells, maintaining optimal health and performance longevity.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the ROC Hobby Atlas/Katana USB Charger suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. This charger is ideal for beginners because it requires no programming, no configuration, and no understanding of complex charging parameters. You simply plug in your 2S LiPo battery and connect the charger to any USB power source. The fixed 8.4V output and 150mA current rate mean there's no possibility of selecting wrong settings, making it one of the safest entry-level charging solutions for new RC car UK hobbyists.
- What battery does this charger work with? — This charger is specifically designed for 2S LiPo (2-cell Lithium Polymer) batteries with an 8.4V nominal voltage. It will safely charge any genuine 2S LiPo pack, whether it's 1500mAh, 2200mAh, 3000mAh, or any other capacity. The 150mA charge rate works across all capacities, though larger capacity batteries will naturally take longer to charge than smaller ones.
- Can I use this charger with other battery types? — No, this charger is specifically engineered for 2S LiPo batteries only. The 8.4V output voltage is correct for 2S packs but would be unsuitable for other battery chemistries like NiMH or LiFe cells, or for other LiPo configurations like 1S or 3S packs. Always match your charger to your battery type.
- What USB power sources can I use? — Any USB source providing 5V DC at 500mA or higher will work, including standard computer USB ports, dedicated USB wall chargers, USB car chargers, and portable power banks. This flexibility means you can charge your ready to run RC vehicles almost anywhere, making this charger exceptionally practical for field use and travel.
- How long does it take to charge a 2S LiPo battery? — Charge time depends on your battery capacity. A typical 2S LiPo might range from 2200mAh to 5000mAh. Using the 150mA charge rate, you can roughly expect charge times of 15-35 hours depending on capacity. For example, a 2200mAh pack would take approximately 15 hours, whilst a 3000mAh pack would take around 20 hours at the 150mA rate.
- Is this safer than fast chargers? — Yes, the moderate 150mA charge rate is inherently safer than high-rate charging solutions because it places less stress on battery cells, generates less heat, and reduces the risk of damage to your LiPo packs. Whilst charge times are longer than with premium multi-chemistry chargers, the gentle approach actually extends your battery lifespan, which makes economic sense over time.
- Can I leave the battery connected when fully charged? — We recommend disconnecting your battery once charging is complete rather than leaving it permanently connected. Whilst the fixed-voltage output minimises overcharging risk compared to constant-current chargers, disconnecting ensures maximum battery lifespan and safety.
