Overview
The ROC Hobby Waterproof 15kg Metal Gear Servo ROC-C1056 is a professional-grade servo designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliable steering control and precision performance in their RC cars and crawlers. This standard-size servo combines waterproof construction with metal gearing to deliver consistent torque output and durability through demanding off-road conditions. Whether you're running a high-end RC crawler, a competitive rock buggy, or any scale RC car UK models that require responsive and reliable steering, this servo offers the build quality and weather resistance needed for year-round operation in the UK climate.
Built by ROC Hobby, a recognised manufacturer of quality RC components, this servo represents excellent value for intermediate and advanced RC hobbyists looking to upgrade their steering systems. The 15kg torque specification provides sufficient force for most 1/10 scale applications whilst maintaining smooth, linear control. Its waterproof rating means you can confidently take your RC car through muddy terrain, water crossings, and wet conditions without worrying about servo failure or corrosion damage to the internal mechanics.
RC enthusiasts across the United Kingdom regularly choose metal gear servos like the ROC-C1056 for their superior durability compared to plastic gear alternatives. The metal construction resists stripping under load, whilst the waterproof sealing protects all internal components from moisture ingress. This servo is an ideal choice for anyone upgrading a ready to run RC vehicle or building a custom RC car setup that demands performance and longevity.
Key Features
- Metal Gear Construction — The internal gearbox uses metal gears throughout rather than plastic, which means it can handle sustained torque loads without stripping or wearing prematurely, making this servo suitable for aggressive driving styles and heavy steering demands.
- Waterproof Design — Full waterproof sealing protects the servo mechanism from water ingress, mud, and moisture, allowing you to operate your RC car in wet conditions and wash your vehicle without risk of servo damage or electrical failure.
- 15kg Torque Output — The 15kg (or 15kg.cm) torque specification provides substantial steering force for standard 1/10 scale RC cars, crawlers, and buggies, ensuring responsive and accurate steering control in all terrain types.
- Standard Servo Size — This servo uses the industry-standard servo case and mounting pattern, making it a drop-in replacement for most RC vehicles and compatible with the vast majority of RC car chassis and receiver combinations.
- Reliable Performance — ROC Hobby has built a reputation for producing no-nonsense RC components that prioritise function over fashion, making this servo a trusted choice for both competitive and casual RC driving in the UK.
Technical Performance
The ROC Hobby ROC-C1056 servo delivers consistent performance characteristics essential for reliable RC car operation. With 15kg of torque, this servo provides ample steering authority for 1/10 scale vehicles across various drivetrain configurations, from lightweight crawler platforms to heavier monster trucks. The metal gear construction ensures that each steering input translates directly to wheel movement without slip or gear backlash, which is critical when navigating technical rock crawling courses or executing precise high-speed turns. The waterproof rating, typically achieved through sealed connectors and rubber gaskets around the case, protects against the moisture and debris encountered during typical RC car use in the UK. Standard servo case dimensions mean the ROC-C1056 fits easily into any servo pocket designed for conventional servo sizes, making integration straightforward whether you're installing it in a new RC build or as a replacement in an existing vehicle. The servo accepts standard PWM signals from any 2.4GHz RC radio system and integrates seamlessly with popular receiver brands and signal processing electronics. Response time and control linearity are optimised for crawling speeds through precise internal potentiometer tuning, allowing drivers to achieve the smooth, predictable steering characteristics necessary for technical off-road courses. The metal construction also provides superior heat dissipation compared to plastic geared servos, meaning it maintains performance even during extended driving sessions without thermal throttling.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the ROC Hobby ROC-C1056 suitable for beginners? — This servo is best suited to intermediate to advanced RC enthusiasts who already understand servo installation and have experience with RC car maintenance. Beginners should consider whether they need a waterproof, metal-geared servo or whether a standard plastic-geared servo would be more cost-effective for initial learning. However, if you're upgrading an existing ready to run RC vehicle or building your first serious crawler, this servo provides excellent durability and performance that will serve you reliably for years of operation.
- What is the torque rating and what does 15kg mean? — The 15kg torque specification refers to the servo's ability to exert 15 kilogram-force (approximately 147 Newtons) at the servo arm when under load. For RC car steering applications, this means the servo can fight against road resistance and suspension forces to deliver precise wheel positioning at all steering angles, making it suitable for 1/10 scale crawlers, buggies, and most standard RC cars.
- What is the difference between metal gear and plastic gear servos? — Metal gear servos like the ROC-C1056 feature internal gearboxes manufactured from brass or steel alloys, which resist stripping and wear far better than plastic gears when subject to sustained torque loads or rapid directional changes. Plastic gear servos cost less but wear more quickly and may skip gears under heavy steering demand, particularly in rock crawling or aggressive driving scenarios. For serious RC car use in the UK where you invest in quality chassis and electronics, metal gear construction typically provides better long-term value.
- Is this servo waterproof and can I use it in wet conditions? — Yes, the ROC-C1056 features waterproof sealing designed to keep moisture out of the internal mechanisms and electronics. This allows you to operate your RC car in rain, splash through water crossings, and wash your vehicle without risk of servo failure. However, waterproof does not mean fully submersible — avoid submerging the servo or subjecting it to high-pressure water jets. The waterproof rating is typically splash-proof to light rain level, suitable for normal off-road use in UK weather conditions.
- What radio system does this servo work with? — The ROC-C1056 uses a standard servo connector and accepts PWM signals from any 2.4GHz RC radio system, including brands like Spektrum, Futaba, JR, Sanwa, and Flysky. As long as your receiver has an available servo output channel and standard servo connector, this servo will integrate without any special adapters or modifications. Simply plug the servo connector into the appropriate receiver channel, calibrate your radio's servo travel if needed, and you're ready to drive.
- What size is this servo and will it fit my RC car? — This is a standard-size servo, which is the most common servo format used in 1/10 scale RC vehicles including crawlers, buggies, monster trucks, and short-course trucks. Check your vehicle's servo pocket dimensions in the user manual or measure the cavity — if it accommodates a standard servo, the ROC-C1056 will fit perfectly. The standard mounting pattern also means you can use various servo brackets and extensions available from RC parts suppliers throughout the UK.
