Overview

The Method RC 4 Piece Metric Nut Driver Set (MTD2002) is an essential tool kit for anyone serious about RC car maintenance, setup and customisation. Whether you're a dedicated RC enthusiast running 1/10 scale buggies, monster trucks, or any other RC vehicle, this professional-grade nut driver set delivers the precision and durability you need to keep your RC car UK hobby running smoothly. Designed specifically for RC enthusiasts who demand quality tools, this metric nut driver set combines ergonomic design with premium materials to make every adjustment easier and more reliable.

The set includes four essential metric sizes – 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, and 7.0mm – covering the vast majority of fastener sizes you'll encounter on modern RC cars. Each driver has been engineered with meticulous attention to detail, from the handle grip through to the tool tip itself. This is not a budget tool set; this is professional equipment built to handle the demands of serious RC car ownership and competition preparation. The combination of high-strength materials, thoughtful ergonomic features, and colour-coded identification means you'll work faster and more accurately, whether you're tuning a competition-grade RC buggy or maintaining a weekend basher.

RC Model Shop stocks the Method RC MTD2002 because we recognise that quality tools make a genuine difference to the RC experience. Poor-fitting drivers damage fasteners, waste time, and frustrate builders. The Method approach solves this completely with precision engineering and user-focused design.

Key Features

  • Comfortable Nylon Grip with Anti-Slip Design — The handle is manufactured from durable nylon material with an anti-slip design that feels genuinely comfortable in your hand during extended use, making it easier to apply consistent force and control. The ergonomic profile reduces hand fatigue, which matters when you're fine-tuning suspension geometry or assembling fresh components on your RC car.
  • Leverage Hole Through the Handle — Each driver includes a convenient hole drilled through the handle, allowing you to insert a separate rod or pin for increased leverage when dealing with stubborn or overtightened fasteners. This practical feature removes the temptation to over-force the driver itself, protecting both the tool and the fastener from damage.
  • High-Strength S2 Steel Tool Tips with HRC 62 Hardness Rating — Each tool tip is forged from high-strength S2 steel with a hardness rating that reaches HRC 62, which is significantly above the market standard for conventional carbon steel tools (typically HRC 28-36). This superior hardness means the tips resist wear, maintain their precise fit in fasteners over thousands of uses, and won't strip or round off even under the demanding conditions of regular RC car maintenance and competition preparation.
  • Titanium Coating for Corrosion Resistance — The S2 steel tips are finished with a titanium coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance, keeping your tools in pristine condition even if exposed to moisture or the residue from fuel-based RC running. This coating extends tool life significantly and maintains the precision fit that makes these drivers so effective.
  • Precision CNC-Machined Aluminium Holders — The tool holders are crafted using precision CNC machinery from high-grade aluminium, ensuring each holder is perfectly engineered to accept the detachable tips securely. The precision manufacturing means tips seat properly every time, with no wobble or uncertainty during use.
  • Anodised and Colour-Coded Holders — Each size driver is assigned its own distinctive colour after anodising the aluminium holder. This colour-coding system makes it instantly obvious which driver you need, speeding up tool selection during maintenance and setup sessions. Whether you're working in garage lighting or at the track, you'll identify the right size at a glance.
  • Detachable and Replaceable Tool Tips — The design philosophy of this set embraces long-term ownership; when a tip eventually does wear or get damaged, replacement tips are available for individual purchase. This modular approach means you're never forced to replace the entire tool – you simply swap the affected tip and carry on.

Technical Performance

The Method RC MTD2002 represents a significant step up in tool quality compared to budget alternatives. The S2 steel formulation combined with HRC 62 hardness rating creates tips that maintain their precise geometry across thousands of fastening operations. For context, standard carbon steel tools typically measure HRC 28-36, meaning these Method drivers are engineered to approximately double the hardness specification. This translates directly to reduced wear, better fastener engagement, and fewer stripped bolts – a critical consideration for RC car owners who rely on precision and reliability. The CNC-machined aluminium holders ensure that each tip is held in perfect alignment, eliminating the wiggle and uncertainty that comes from loose or poorly-fitted tool heads. The titanium coating adds another layer of durability; whilst not essential for indoor use, it proves invaluable if you're using these tools trackside or in damp environments. The combination of detachable tips and colour-coded holders creates an intuitive system that makes tool identification and maintenance straightforward, even for newcomers to the RC car hobby. The nylon handle with its integrated leverage hole demonstrates that the design team understands real-world usage – you simply cannot apply enough torque with fingertip grip alone when dealing with corroded or Loctite-secured fasteners, so this thoughtful addition prevents over-stressing the driver itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What fastener sizes do these metric nut drivers fit? — This set includes four metric sizes: 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, and 7.0mm. These sizes cover the vast majority of metric fasteners found on modern RC cars, from 1/10 scale buggies and monster trucks through to larger vehicles. If you're unsure whether these sizes suit your specific RC model, we recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting our team at RC Model Shop.
  • Are these nut drivers suitable for beginners to the RC hobby? — Yes, absolutely. Whilst these are professional-grade tools that will satisfy experienced RC competitors and mechanics, they're equally suitable for anyone new to the RC car hobby. The colour-coded sizing system, comfortable grip, and ease of use make them actually easier for beginners to use correctly compared to budget alternatives. You'll learn good fastening technique right from the start, which is a genuine advantage.
  • How durable are the tool tips, and what happens when they eventually wear? — The S2 steel tips with HRC 62 hardness are engineered for exceptional durability and will outlast standard carbon steel tools by a significant margin. However, all tools eventually wear with heavy use. The advantage of this design is that replacement tips are available for individual purchase, so you never need to buy a whole new set – you simply replace the worn tip and continue using the handle and holder.
  • Can I use these drivers on RC cars other than those I currently own? — The four metric sizes in this set (4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 7.0mm) are industry-standard across RC manufacturers including Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi, and others. You'll find these sizes fit fasteners on virtually any modern RC car, buggy, truck or crawler. This makes the set a genuinely versatile addition to your RC tool collection.
  • What's the benefit of the leverage hole in the handle? — The leverage hole allows you to insert a rod, screwdriver, or similar tool through the handle to create additional mechanical advantage when dealing with stubborn fasteners. This is particularly useful for bolt head nuts that have been over-tightened or secured with threadlocker compound. Rather than straining the driver tip or your hand, you use the leverage hole to safely increase available force.
  • Are replacement tips available, and how much do they cost? — Yes, Method RC offers replacement tooltip sets for individual purchase. This means if a tip becomes damaged, you can simply replace that tip rather than purchasing a whole new driver set. Contact RC Model Shop or visit the Method RC website for current pricing on replacement tips.
  • How do the colour-coded holders help during RC car maintenance? — The anodised and colour-coded aluminium holders mean each metric size has its own distinctive colour. During maintenance, setup, or competition preparation, you can instantly identify the correct size without having to read the label or check your fastener against the driver. This speeds up work significantly and reduces the chance of using the wrong size, which could damage fasteners or create poor mechanical connections.
