From fine-tuning suspension geometry on your ready to run RC buggy to assembling fresh components on your latest race kit, these drivers offer the precision fit and comfortable handling that separates quality tools from budget alternatives. The thoughtful engineering throughout—from the forged S2 steel tips to the colour-coded aluminium holders—means you'll reach for this set time and again.
RC Model Shop stocks this Method RC tool set because it represents genuine value for money. It's built to the standards that competitive racers and weekend bashers alike demand, with the durability to withstand years of regular use in the demanding environment of RC maintenance and building.
Key Features
- Comfortable Nylon Grip with Anti-Slip Design — The handle is crafted from durable nylon material engineered to provide a secure, comfortable grip even when you're applying significant torque or working for extended periods. The anti-slip surface ensures your hand won't slip during critical adjustments, and a integrated hole allows you to add extra leverage when tackling stubborn fasteners that require additional force.
- Detachable High-Strength S2 Steel Tool Tips — Each hexagonal tip is forged from premium S2 steel, delivering exceptional hardness and durability that far exceeds typical hobby-grade tools. The forged construction process aligns the steel grain for maximum strength, meaning these tips resist dulling, stripping and deformation even under heavy use. You can confidently apply the torque needed without fear of the hex rounding out inside your fastener.
- HRC 62 Hardness Rating for Exceptional Durability — At HRC 62 (Rockwell hardness scale), these tips operate far above the market standard for basic carbon steel tools, which typically measure only HRC 28–36. This superior hardness translates directly to longer tool life, cleaner fastener engagement and fewer stripped screws—a critical advantage when working on precision RC models where fastener integrity affects performance and handling.
- Titanium Coating for Corrosion Resistance — Beyond the hardened steel core, each tip features a titanium coating that actively resists rust, oxidation and corrosion. This protective layer ensures your tools maintain their like-new finish and performance even when stored in damp conditions or exposed to the moisture and salt spray common at RC tracks and outdoor venues across the UK.
- Precision CNC-Machined Aluminium Holders — The driver shafts are manufactured using high-precision CNC machining from quality aluminium, then anodised for added durability and corrosion protection. This precision engineering guarantees a perfect fit with standard metric hex fasteners every time, eliminating wobble and ensuring your driver engages fully for maximum control and safety.
- Colour-Coded for Quick Size Identification — Each of the four sizes features its own distinct anodised colour, allowing you to instantly identify the correct driver for the job. This simple but effective system speeds up your workflow, reduces selection errors and keeps your tool set organised during busy building sessions or trackside repairs.
- Replacement Tips Available for Long-Term Value — Method RC offers replacement tool tips for individual purchase, meaning you can keep this set serviceable for years. If a tip ever becomes damaged or worn, you can simply replace it rather than replacing the entire driver, making this an economical long-term investment for serious RC hobbyists.
Technical Performance
The Method RC MTD2001 represents a significant step above entry-level hex driver sets commonly found in budget RC tool kits. The engineering philosophy throughout reflects professional standards: the S2 steel used in the tips undergoes a forging process that creates superior molecular alignment compared to cast or stamped alternatives, resulting in tips that maintain their sharp, precise edges through hundreds of fastening cycles. With a hardness rating of HRC 62, these tips operate at the upper range of tool steel specifications, matching or exceeding the hardness standards of professional automotive and precision engineering tools. This matters because RC fasteners are typically small, delicate and prone to cam-out if the driver doesn't grip perfectly. The precision CNC machining of the aluminium holders ensures concentricity to exacting tolerances, meaning the hex profile aligns perfectly with your fasteners without play or wobble. The titanium coating adds another layer of protection, creating a barrier against oxidation that is particularly valuable in the UK's damp climate. The nylon handle material was specifically selected for its balance of durability, comfort and grip security; unlike slippery plastic or hard metal handles, this nylon formulation provides genuine tactile feedback and security even when your hands are slightly damp or sweaty from intense building sessions. The inclusion of a leverage hole in each handle is a practical detail that demonstrates deep understanding of real-world usage—occasionally you encounter a fastener that's been over-tightened by previous assembly, and this hole allows you to insert a shaft or hex tool for additional mechanical advantage without risking damage to the primary driver.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these hex drivers suitable for use on all popular RC brands like Traxxas, ARRMA, Losi and Corally? — Yes, the MTD2001 covers the four most common metric hex sizes used across virtually all modern RC vehicles regardless of brand. Whether you're working on a Traxxas Stampede, an ARRMA Kraton or Mojave, a Losi Promoto or any other platform, you'll find these sizes cover the vast majority of fasteners. The metric standard is universal across the RC hobby, so these drivers work perfectly on any RC car, truck, buggy or crawler available in the UK market.
- What makes these hex drivers superior to cheap alternatives available from general tool retailers? — The critical differences are material quality, precision engineering and professional hardness standards. Budget hex drivers use basic carbon steel with HRC ratings around 28–36; the Method RC tips achieve HRC 62, meaning they're nearly twice as hard and resist dulling and stripping far more effectively. The CNC-machined aluminium holders ensure perfect concentricity with your fasteners, eliminating wobble that damages both the tool and the fastener. The titanium coating provides genuine corrosion protection that general tools lack. When you're working on precision RC models where fastener integrity directly affects handling and reliability, these professional standards matter.
- Can I purchase replacement tips if one becomes damaged? — Absolutely. Method RC offers replacement tips available for individual purchase, making this set economical to maintain long-term. Rather than replacing the entire driver if a tip becomes worn or damaged, you simply swap in a fresh tip. This approach reflects the philosophy that quality tools should be serviceable and sustainable rather than disposable.
- Is this set suitable for beginners just getting into the RC hobby? — Yes, the MTD2001 is ideal for anyone entering the RC hobby, whether they're building their first ready to run RC car or assembling a kit from scratch. The comfortable nylon grip, colour-coded identification and precise fit make these drivers intuitive to use, and the superior hardness means beginners won't experience the frustration of stripped fasteners that often occurs with poor-quality tools. Investing in good tools from the start builds better habits and prevents damage to your valuable RC models.
- How do the colour-coded holders help during RC maintenance and builds? — The anodised colour coding on each holder serves a practical function: during busy building sessions or trackside adjustments, you can instantly identify which size you need without reading labels or measuring. This speeds up your workflow, particularly valuable when you're making multiple suspension adjustments or comparing your setup to another driver's car. The colours also help keep your tool set organised and prevent accidentally grabbing the wrong size.
- What is the leverage hole in the handle for? — The hole drilled through each handle allows you to insert an additional tool—such as a shaft extension or another hex driver—to create a longer lever arm when extra turning force is needed. This is particularly useful if you encounter a fastener that's been over-tightened during previous assembly or manufacture. Rather than straining your wrist or risking damage to the tool, you can use the leverage hole to safely apply additional mechanical advantage.
