Overview

The MIP 11/32" Nut Driver Wrench Gen 2 (MIP9809) is an essential tool for any serious RC enthusiast in the UK who demands precision and reliability. For nearly 30 years, MIP has been synonymous with quality RC tools, trusted by world champions and hobbyists alike around the world. This Generation 2 refinement takes everything that made the original legendary and enhances it with thoughtful updates that make it even more indispensable for your RC workshop. Whether you're building a competitive RC car, maintaining a ready-to-run RC model, or simply fine-tuning your collection, this nut driver is the tool you'll reach for time and again.

The 11/32" size is a critical fastener tool for RC work, fitting numerous nuts on common RC hardware. This updated Gen 2 version retains the iconic amber handle that RC enthusiasts immediately recognise, but now features a durable black oxide coating that replaces the previous nickel plating, offering superior protection against scratches, corrosion, and the general wear and tear of regular RC life. The combination of thoughtful engineering, American manufacturing, and hand assembly ensures that you're investing in a tool that will perform reliably for years to come.

RC Model Shop stocks the full range of MIP tools because we understand that quality tools matter when you're working on precision RC models. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying casual RC car fun or a serious competitor preparing for the next race, having the right tools makes the difference between frustration and satisfaction. The MIP Gen 2 line represents evolution, not revolution—the same rock-solid construction and precise tolerances you've trusted for decades, now refined and enhanced for the modern RC workshop.

Key Features

  • Black Oxide Coating — The Gen 2 nut driver features a premium black oxide coating instead of the previous nickel plating, providing superior durability and protection against oxidation, corrosion, and scratches that can occur during regular use in your RC workshop. This coating means your tool will stay looking and performing like new for longer, even with daily use.
  • Laser-Etched Size Markings — Clear, crisp laser-engraved markings display the MIP logo and the exact size of the nut driver (11/32"), ensuring you can instantly identify the correct tool without guessing or checking packaging. These markings are permanent and won't fade over time like paint or ink markings.
  • Colour-Coded Ring — Each MIP Gen 2 nut driver includes a colour-coded ring for quick visual identification when reaching into your toolbox, allowing you to grab the right size without hesitation during critical moments in your RC tuning or building sessions.
  • Deep Thin-Wall Socket Head — The specially designed deep socket head with thin-wall construction allows the driver to reach nuts located on long screws whilst still fitting into tight spaces around your RC model. This engineering solves a genuine problem that RC enthusiasts face when working on densely packed assemblies.
  • Optimised Steel Construction — Built from quality steel that is hand-assembled in the USA, the 11/32" driver delivers dependable performance and durability that professional-grade tools demand. The steel is optimised specifically for durability and long-wear characteristics, ensuring it handles the torque requirements of RC fasteners without stripping or deforming.
  • Improved Ergonomics — The Gen 2 features a shorter overall length compared to previous versions, improving ergonomics and control during precise fastening and adjustment work. The polycarbonate handle is designed for comfort and is resilient to both hot and cold weather conditions, so you can work comfortably even during winter RC sessions in the UK.
  • Hand-Assembled in the USA — Every single MIP Gen 2 nut driver is assembled by hand and manufactured and packaged entirely in the USA, maintaining the quality standards that have made MIP legendary in the RC industry.
  • Cohesive Tool Collection Design — The subtle yet impactful design tweaks of the Gen 2 line create a cohesive look and feel across your entire MIP tool collection, making it easier than ever to spot those legendary amber handles in your toolbox and building a sense of confidence that comes from using the best.

Technical Performance

The MIP 11/32" Nut Driver Wrench Gen 2 represents the pinnacle of precision tool engineering for the RC hobby. Constructed from durable steel and optimised for durability with long-wear characteristics, this nut driver is engineered to handle the specific demands of RC fastening work where precision and reliability are non-negotiable. The black oxide coating applied to the tool provides a protective layer against oxidation and corrosion whilst also resisting the scratches that naturally occur during workshop use. The deep socket head with thin-wall construction is a critical feature for RC work—it allows you to access nuts positioned on long screws whilst the thin walls ensure the head fits into the tight, densely packed spaces common in modern RC designs. At 11/32" size, this driver handles a crucial range of fasteners across numerous RC platforms, from RC cars to RC trucks. The shorter overall length improves both ergonomics and control during adjustment and assembly work, reducing hand fatigue during extended building sessions. The polycarbonate handle is specifically formulated to remain resilient in both hot and cold weather conditions, making it suitable for year-round RC use across the UK climate. Every unit is hand-assembled in the USA, ensuring that quality control standards are maintained throughout manufacturing. The laser-etched size markings and colour-coded identification ring ensure you can work efficiently and grab the correct tool instantly during urgent adjustments or maintenance sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes the MIP Gen 2 nut driver better than the original version? — The Generation 2 update introduces several meaningful improvements: the black oxide coating provides superior protection against corrosion and scratches compared to the previous nickel plating, the laser-etched size markings are permanent and crystal clear, and the slightly shortened length improves ergonomics and control. These aren't superficial changes—they address real issues RC enthusiasts faced with previous versions.
  • Is this nut driver suitable for beginners in RC? — Absolutely. The MIP 11/32" nut driver is suitable for everyone from complete beginners just starting their RC journey to experienced competitors who demand the best. The ergonomic design, clear markings, and reliable construction make it easy to use, whilst the legendary MIP quality ensures it will last for years as your skills develop.
  • What fasteners does the 11/32" size fit? — The 11/32" size is a critical fastener size for RC work, fitting numerous nuts commonly found on RC cars, trucks, and other RC models. It's one of the most frequently used sizes in RC building and maintenance work, making it an essential addition to your tool collection.
  • How does the thin-wall socket design help in RC work? — The thin-wall socket head is engineered to fit into tight spaces around your RC model whilst maintaining sufficient depth to reach nuts on longer screws. This is crucial for modern RC designs where components are densely packed and traditional thicker-walled sockets cannot fit into the spaces you need to access.
  • Why is hand assembly important for this tool? — Hand assembly allows MIP to maintain strict quality control throughout manufacturing. Each unit is individually assembled in the USA, ensuring that every component meets exacting standards before it reaches your toolbox. This personal touch is part of what makes MIP tools trusted by world champions.
  • Will this nut driver work with different RC brands and models? — Yes. The 11/32" size is a standard fastener dimension used across virtually all major RC brands and platforms, including ready-to-run RC models and competition kits. Whether you're working on RC cars, RC trucks, or other RC models, this tool will be useful regardless of manufacturer.
  • How does the colour-coded ring help with tool organisation? — The colour-coded ring allows you to instantly identify the correct tool by sight when working in your RC workshop. Rather than reading markings or checking your tool list, you can simply spot the right colour and grab the correct nut driver, saving precious time during setup and maintenance.
