Overview

The MIP 3/16" Nut Driver Wrench Gen 2 (MIP9806) is an essential tool for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision, durability and reliability in their RC hobby. For nearly 30 years, MIP has been the recognised leader in RC tool manufacturing, trusted by World Champions and hobbyists alike to deliver the performance needed for competitive racing and weekend bashing alike. Whether you're maintaining your RC car UK collection, tuning your ready to run RC vehicles, or building from scratch, this legendary nut driver has earned its place in every serious RC modeller's toolbox.

The Gen 2 update to MIP's iconic amber-handled tools represents an evolution of perfection. Building on three decades of proven design, the new generation features enhanced durability through black oxide coating, laser-etched size markings for instant identification, and the same rock-solid construction that has made MIP the number one tool brand in the RC industry. Whether you're working on brushless RC vehicles, servicing gearboxes, or making precision adjustments to suspension components, this 3/16" nut driver delivers the control and accuracy you need every single time.

The MIP Gen 2 philosophy is simple: don't fix what isn't broken, but make it better. The core engineering excellence that defines MIP tools remains unchanged—rock-solid steel construction, precise tolerances, and uncompromising quality. What's new is the attention to detail that takes an already legendary tool and elevates it to the next level of awesomeness.

Key Features

  • Black Oxide Coating — The Gen 2 Nut Driver now features a superior black oxide finish instead of the previous nickel plating, providing enhanced protection against oxidation, corrosion, and the scratches that come from regular use in your RC workshop, ensuring your tool stays looking and performing like new for longer.
  • Laser-Etched Size Markings — Clear, crisp, laser-engraved markings make instant identification of the 3/16" size impossible to miss, eliminating confusion when grabbing tools quickly during setup or mid-race adjustments at UK RC tracks and events.
  • Colour-Coded Ring System — The distinctive colour-coded ring on the handle allows you to quickly distinguish this size from other MIP nut drivers in your collection, creating visual organisation across your entire Gen 2 tool range and building consistency in your RC maintenance workflow.
  • Deep Socket Head Design — The deep, thin-wall socket head reaches nuts located on long screws and fasteners deep within your RC chassis, allowing access to hardware that standard tools simply cannot reach, critical for maintenance on complex RC vehicles.
  • Thin-Wall Socket Construction — The precisely engineered thin-wall head design fits into tight spaces around suspension components, gearbox fasteners, and suspension arms, essential when working on modern compact RC designs where space is at a premium.
  • Ergonomic Handle Design — The short, super-comfortable polycarbonate handle is optimised for improved ergonomics and precise control, whilst remaining resilient to both hot and cold weather conditions, so your hands stay comfortable whether you're working in summer heat or winter cold across the UK.
  • Hand-Assembled Construction — Every single MIP Gen 2 Nut Driver is assembled by hand to ensure quality control and precise tolerances, reflecting the brand's commitment to delivering tools that meet World Championship standards.
  • USA Manufacturing — Manufactured and packaged 100% in the USA, ensuring consistent quality control and supporting proven manufacturing standards that have earned MIP's reputation across the RC hobby worldwide.
  • Steel Build Quality — Optimised steel construction provides exceptional durability and long wear characteristics, ensuring this tool will handle thousands of fastener removals and installations without deforming or losing precision.
  • MIP Logo Laser Engraving — The iconic MIP logo is laser engraved directly onto the tool, a mark of quality and authenticity that confirms you're using genuine MIP equipment trusted by RC professionals.

Technical Performance

The MIP 3/16" Nut Driver Wrench Gen 2 represents the pinnacle of precision tool engineering for the RC hobby. Built from optimised steel construction, this tool is engineered to withstand the demands of professional-level RC maintenance whilst delivering the precision tolerances demanded by competitive RC racing. The black oxide coating provides superior protection against oxidation and corrosion compared to older nickel plating methods, extending the tool's lifespan and maintaining its appearance through years of regular use in RC workshops and at the track. The socket head design features a deep profile combined with thin-wall construction, allowing it to access fasteners in locations that would be impossible to reach with standard tools. The overall length has been optimised for superior ergonomics, reducing hand fatigue during extended maintenance sessions whilst still providing excellent leverage and control. The polycarbonate handle material is specifically selected for resilience across temperature extremes, remaining comfortable and maintaining its grip integrity whether you're working in cold British winters or during hot summer RC racing events. This is not just a tool; it's a piece of precision engineering that has been refined over nearly 30 years of continuous development, trusted by World Champions and RC enthusiasts worldwide to deliver consistent, reliable performance on everything from entry-level ready to run RC vehicles to full competition builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the MIP 3/16" Nut Driver suitable for all RC cars? — Yes, this nut driver is universal across virtually all RC vehicles including RC buggies, RC monster trucks, RC crawlers, and all modern brushless RC cars. The 3/16" size is one of the most commonly used fastener sizes in RC, making it an essential tool for any RC modeller in the UK. Whether you're working on ready to run RC vehicles or competition builds, this size covers the majority of nut and fastener work you'll encounter.
  • What makes Gen 2 better than the original MIP nut drivers? — The Gen 2 update introduces three key improvements: laser-etched size markings for crystal-clear identification, black oxide coating for superior durability and corrosion resistance compared to previous nickel plating, and refined ergonomics across the tool range. The core engineering excellence remains unchanged—this is evolution, not revolution. If you already own original MIP tools, you'll appreciate that Gen 2 maintains the exact feel and quality you trust whilst adding these practical enhancements.
  • Why is the thin-wall socket design important? — The thin-wall design allows the socket to fit into tight spaces around RC suspension components, gearbox housings, and chassis areas where standard thick-walled sockets simply cannot fit. This is particularly important on modern compact RC designs where every millimetre of clearance matters. The deep socket profile combined with thin walls lets you reach fasteners that would otherwise require disassembly of major components.
  • Is this tool suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The MIP 3/16" Nut Driver is perfect for beginners getting started with RC maintenance. The colour-coded ring and laser-etched markings make it instantly recognisable, the comfortable handle reduces hand fatigue during learning, and the precision construction means you can make accurate adjustments to your RC vehicle without stripping fasteners. Many beginners purchase MIP tools specifically because they deliver professional results and eliminate the frustration of using inferior tools that strip screws and damage fasteners.
  • Why is MIP the #1 tool brand in the RC industry? — MIP has earned this recognition over nearly 30 years through unwavering commitment to quality, precision and customer satisfaction. Every tool is hand-assembled, manufactured in the USA to strict standards, and trusted by World Champions worldwide. The 3/16" Nut Driver has become the recognised standard because it simply works better than alternatives—it reaches fasteners others can't, it won't strip bolts, and it maintains precision tolerances through thousands of uses. You're not just buying a tool; you're buying three decades of proven performance.
  • Can this wrench be used on stripped fasteners? — MIP tools are specifically trusted by RC enthusiasts as the solution to fasteners stripped by sub-par tools. The precision fit and robust steel construction mean MIP tools grip fasteners securely without slipping or stripping. If you've damaged a fastener with inferior tools, switching to MIP often allows you to remove it cleanly. However, if a fastener is already heavily stripped, you may need to drill it out and replace it regardless of tool quality.
  • How does the black oxide coating compare to nickel plating? — Black oxide coating provides superior corrosion resistance, scratch protection, and durability compared to traditional nickel plating. It maintains a professional appearance longer and protects the underlying steel from oxidation even in damp British conditions. The finish is slightly less reflective than polished nickel, but this is actually beneficial as it reduces glare and the matte finish provides better grip characteristics.
