Overview

The FTX Tracer Centre Driveshaft (FTX9721) is an essential spare part for owners of the FTX Tracer range of 1/16 scale RC monster trucks and truggies. This centre driveshaft is a critical drivetrain component designed to transmit power from your vehicle's transmission to the wheels, ensuring smooth and reliable power delivery during off-road adventures. Whether you're a dedicated RC enthusiast running a ready-to-run RC car in the UK or an experienced basher who demands quality replacement parts, this genuine FTX spare ensures your Tracer maintains peak performance on any terrain.

FTX has established itself as a trusted manufacturer of affordable, high-quality RC vehicles and components. The Tracer line, available in multiple configurations including monster truck and truggy variants, has become a popular choice for UK RC hobbyists seeking reliable 1/16 scale 4WD performance. The centre driveshaft is a wear item that may require replacement after extended use, particularly in demanding off-road conditions or competitive racing scenarios. Having a genuine spare on hand means you can keep your RC truck running without extended downtime.

This compact yet robust component is engineered to withstand the stresses of 4WD operation in a 1/16 scale monster truck or truggy platform. The centre driveshaft works in conjunction with your vehicle's front and rear differentials and axles to ensure power is distributed evenly to all four wheels. Whether you're tackling rough terrain, performing high-speed runs, or practising technical climbing, a quality centre driveshaft is fundamental to maintaining consistent driveability and preventing loss of power transmission.

Key Features

  • Genuine FTX Component — This is an original equipment manufacturer spare part designed specifically for FTX Tracer models, ensuring perfect fitment and reliability. Using genuine parts protects your investment and maintains the integrity of your RC vehicle's drivetrain system.
  • Compatible with Multiple Tracer Variants — The FTX9721 is engineered to work seamlessly with numerous FTX Tracer configurations, including the 1/16 RTR Monster Truck in orange, red and blue colour options, the brushless 4WD variants in yellow, blue and red, and all 1/16 RTR Truggy models in orange, green and red. This broad compatibility makes it an excellent spare to have on hand if you own any Tracer model.
  • Drivetrain Specialist Part — Classified as a drivetrain spare, this centre driveshaft is engineered to handle the rigours of 4WD off-road operation. The part is precision-manufactured to exacting tolerances, ensuring it integrates perfectly with your vehicle's existing drivetrain and maintains smooth power transmission.
  • Essential Wear Item — Like all mechanical components in high-performance RC vehicles, the centre driveshaft experiences wear during regular use. Having a genuine replacement ready means you can maintain your Tracer's performance without waiting for parts to arrive or settling for inferior aftermarket alternatives.
  • Affordable Spare Part — Priced accessibly at just £2.25 (excluding VAT), this genuine OEM spare is an economical way to keep your FTX Tracer running at its best. The low cost makes it sensible to maintain a spare in your parts box for emergency replacements during RC sessions.

Technical Performance

The FTX Tracer Centre Driveshaft is engineered as a critical component of the 1/16 scale 4WD drivetrain system. In 4WD vehicles, the centre driveshaft serves as the link between the transmission and the vehicle's differential systems, distributing power from the motor and ESC through the gearbox to the front and rear axles. The precise engineering of this component ensures minimal power loss and smooth acceleration characteristics essential for responsive off-road driving. The driveshaft must be robust enough to handle the torque output from the brushless and brushed motors available in different Tracer configurations, whilst remaining lightweight to maintain the vehicle's agility and handling characteristics. FTX's design philosophy focuses on reliability and performance in accessible price brackets, and this centre driveshaft exemplifies that commitment. The component's material composition and manufacturing process are optimised to provide longevity under the demanding conditions of rock crawling, high-speed bashing, and technical truggy racing. Whether your Tracer is equipped with a brushless motor in a high-speed configuration or a brushed motor in a more economical setup, this centre driveshaft is engineered to deliver consistent power transmission and maintain the vehicle's intended performance envelope.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which FTX Tracer models are compatible with the FTX9721 centre driveshaft? — The FTX9721 is compatible with all FTX Tracer 1/16 scale models, including the standard 1/16 RTR Monster Truck in orange, red and blue, the brushless 4WD variant in yellow, blue and red, and all 1/16 RTR Truggy versions in orange, green and red. If you own any Tracer model in 1/16 scale, this is the correct centre driveshaft replacement.
  • When should I replace my centre driveshaft? — You should consider replacement if you experience loss of power transmission, grinding sounds from the drivetrain, or if the driveshaft itself appears damaged, bent or worn. Regular inspection during maintenance sessions will help you identify when replacement is necessary before performance is significantly compromised.
  • Is the FTX Tracer suitable for beginners? — The FTX Tracer range, particularly the ready-to-run models, is designed with accessibility in mind. The 1/16 scale size makes it manageable for newcomers to RC, and the brushless options provide modern power delivery. Understanding basic drivetrain maintenance, including replacing components like the centre driveshaft, is a valuable skill for any RC hobbyist and helps you maintain optimal performance.
  • Do I need special tools to install this centre driveshaft? — Installation requires basic RC tools, typically hex drivers or small spanners to remove and reinstall the driveshaft assembly. Most RC enthusiasts have these tools already in their kit. If you're new to RC maintenance, check your Tracer's manual for specific installation instructions, and don't hesitate to ask experienced RC friends or contact an RC specialist for guidance.
  • Is this a wear item that I should stock up on? — Whilst centre driveshafts are engineered for durability, they do experience wear during extended use, particularly in competitive or intensive bashing scenarios. Keeping a spare on hand is sensible and inexpensive at this price point, ensuring you're never left without a critical drivetrain component.
  • What is the difference between the standard and brushless FTX Tracer models? — The brushless Tracer variants feature modern brushless motor technology, which provides increased power efficiency, longer runtime, smoother power delivery and reduced maintenance compared to brushed motors. Both versions use the same centre driveshaft (FTX9721), so compatibility is assured regardless of which Tracer variant you own.
