Overview
The FTX Ravine RC380 Motor Front is a precision-engineered replacement motor designed specifically for the FTX Ravine 1/10 RTR Rock Buggy Crawler. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast looking for spares to keep your crawler performing at peak efficiency, or someone needing to repair and restore their FTX Ravine after intensive off-road adventures, this genuine OEM motor component ensures your vehicle maintains authentic performance and compatibility. The RC380 motor format is a proven choice in the RC hobby world, offering reliable power delivery and consistent torque characteristics that make it ideal for rock crawling and technical terrain navigation.
FTX has established itself as a trusted manufacturer of affordable, quality-focused RC vehicles and spare parts across the UK RC community. The Ravine represents their commitment to delivering accessible rock crawling platforms, and maintaining your vehicle with genuine FTX spares is the best way to ensure longevity and reliable performance on the trail. This front motor unit features a 2.3mm shaft specification, which is the correct size for seamless integration with your Ravine's drivetrain and transmission components. Keeping a spare motor on hand is essential for any serious RC car UK enthusiast, as motors experience wear and can require replacement after extended use or in the event of mechanical failure.
The RC380 motor type has become a standard choice in entry-level to mid-range electric RC vehicles because it strikes an excellent balance between power output, current draw, size constraints, and cost-effectiveness. For crawlers specifically, this motor size provides sufficient torque characteristics for low-speed technical driving whilst remaining light enough not to affect vehicle balance and handling characteristics during climbing and obstacle negotiation.

Technical Performance
The RC380 motor represents a mature and well-proven design that has earned its place as the standard specification in countless entry and intermediate-level RC vehicles across the hobby. The motor's physical dimensions and weight characteristics make it suitable for scale crawlers where drivetrain strain requires reliable power delivery without excessive inertia. The 2.3mm shaft diameter is a common standard in the RC industry, ensuring compatibility with pinions and transmission components designed for vehicles in this class. The motor's electrical characteristics are optimised for 7.4-volt Li-ion battery systems (such as the separately available FTX Ravine Li-ion 7.4v Battery 1500mah), delivering consistent current draw during technical climbing and rock negotiation scenarios. Build quality on FTX motors emphasises durability and consistent performance across multiple charge cycles, with properly engineered windings and brushes designed to handle the sustained lower-speed, higher-torque demands of rock crawling rather than high-speed racing applications. For serious RC car UK hobbyists, having a spare motor readily available ensures minimal downtime between trail sessions, as motor replacement is one of the most straightforward maintenance procedures on any electric RC vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this motor compatible with my FTX Ravine? — Yes, this motor is specifically designed as the front motor replacement for the FTX Ravine 1/10 RTR Rock Buggy Crawler (model FTX5574). The 2.3mm shaft and RC380 motor specification match the original equipment exactly, making it a direct drop-in replacement.
- Can I upgrade to a higher KV motor for more speed? — The RC380 motor is the standard specification for the Ravine platform. Any modifications to the motor specification may affect electrical system compatibility, transmission durability, and the vehicle's designed crawling characteristics. We recommend using the original specification for optimal performance.
- What battery voltage does this motor require? — The RC380 motor in the Ravine platform is designed to operate with a 7.4-volt Li-ion battery system, such as the FTX Ravine Li-ion 7.4v Battery 1500mah available separately. Operating at higher voltages may damage the motor and electrical components.
- How difficult is it to replace the front motor? — Motor replacement is one of the most straightforward maintenance procedures on the FTX Ravine. You will need basic RC tools and should follow the standard Ravine service manual for your vehicle. Most hobbyists with intermediate RC experience can complete the job in 15-20 minutes.
- Why would I need a replacement motor? — Motors can wear over time with regular use, brushes may develop flat spots, or mechanical failure can occur from impact or water damage. Having a spare motor ensures minimal downtime between trail sessions and maintains peak vehicle performance.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — If you're a beginner RC enthusiast with a Ravine vehicle, this is a straightforward replacement part. Motor installation is one of the most accessible repairs in RC mechanics, making it ideal for learning basic maintenance. However, this is a spare part rather than a complete vehicle, so you'll need an existing Ravine to use it.
- What is the difference between front and rear motors on the Ravine? — The Ravine features four-wheel drive with motors in both the front and rear positions. The specifications and shaft sizes may differ between front and rear units, so ensure you're ordering the correct position replacement for your vehicle.
