Key Features
- CVD Constant Velocity Design — The Constant Velocity joint design ensures smooth and consistent power delivery regardless of suspension angle, which is essential for maintaining traction and control during aggressive driving and complex terrain navigation.
- Front Half Configuration — This component is specifically the front half of the rear central CVD shaft assembly, making it ideal for targeted repairs or upgrades without needing to replace the entire driveshaft system.
- Genuine FTX Component — Manufactured by FTX as original equipment, this part meets the exact specifications and quality standards established for the Outlaw range, ensuring compatibility and longevity.
- Drivetrain Precision Engineering — Built to exacting tolerances to minimise play and vibration, maintaining the crisp handling characteristics your FTX Outlaw is renowned for.
- Easy Installation — Straightforward replacement design allows quick swaps without requiring specialist tools or advanced technical knowledge, making maintenance and repairs accessible to all skill levels.
- Enhanced Durability Option — While the standard plastic cups may show wear under extreme conditions, users report that upgrading to steel replacement cups significantly extends component lifespan and improves performance under sustained high-power running.
- Cost-Effective Spares Strategy — By purchasing individual shaft halves, you can maintain a spare parts inventory without unnecessary expense, extending the life of your RC buggy investment.
Technical Performance
The FTX Outlaw Rear Central CVD Shaft Front Half represents precision drivetrain engineering designed specifically for the demands of 1/10 scale 4WD off-road RC buggies. The CVD joint technology employed in this component ensures that power is transmitted smoothly and consistently from your transmission to the rear axle assembly, regardless of suspension articulation or the angle at which the wheels are driven. This is particularly important in an off-road RC car UK context, where suspension travel and uneven terrain constantly change the operating angles of the drivetrain. The front half of the central rear shaft works in conjunction with complementary components to create a complete drivetrain system that can handle both casual backyard bashing and more intensive off-road use. Materials and engineering quality are consistent with FTX's reputation for delivering reliable, performance-focused RC vehicles. Real-world user feedback indicates that while the component performs well under normal to moderate running conditions, those operating high-powered brushless setups or engaging in sustained aggressive driving may experience wear to the plastic cups; upgrading these cups to steel alternatives is reported to dramatically improve durability. With soft throttle control and appropriate driving technique, the FTX8333 can support serious off-road performance including challenging terrain work and extended running sessions. The shaft's design minimises vibration and play, contributing to the responsive handling feel that makes the FTX Outlaw a popular choice among UK RC enthusiasts seeking genuine 4WD off-road capability at an accessible price point.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a CVD shaft and why does my FTX Outlaw need one? — A CVD (Constant Velocity) shaft uses a joint design that allows the driveshaft to transmit power smoothly even when the suspension is compressed or extended and the wheels are at different angles. In an off-road 4WD RC buggy like the FTX Outlaw, the suspension articulates considerably during driving, and traditional rigid shafts would bind or lose efficiency. The CVD design maintains smooth power delivery throughout the entire range of suspension movement, which is why it's considered essential for serious RC performance.
- Is this a complete shaft or just part of one? — This is specifically the front half of the rear central CVD shaft. The FTX Outlaw rear drivetrain uses a two-piece design, with this component forming the front portion. If you need to replace the complete assembly, you may need to purchase both the front and rear halves separately, or verify whether a complete single-piece shaft is available for your model.
- How difficult is it to install the FTX8333? — Installation is relatively straightforward for someone with basic RC maintenance experience. The shaft typically slides into the central transmission area and connects to the differential. You'll need basic tools such as hex keys, but the design allows for quick replacement without requiring specialist equipment or advanced technical knowledge. Refer to your FTX Outlaw manual or online guides for step-by-step installation instructions.
- Will this part work with my FTX Zorro or other FTX models? — This part is confirmed compatible with the FTX5556B Zorro Trophy Truck in brushed RTR blue, in addition to both the brushed and brushless versions of the FTX Outlaw. Always verify compatibility before purchasing spare parts for other FTX models, as different models may use different drivetrain components.
- What should I do if my CVD shaft wears out quickly under high-power running? — User feedback indicates that the plastic cups used in the standard FTX8333 can experience wear when running sustained high-power brushless setups. Many users recommend upgrading to steel replacement cups, which significantly improve durability and performance longevity. Additionally, developing smooth throttle control and avoiding aggressive acceleration from standstill will extend component life considerably. Regular inspection and maintenance help catch wear before catastrophic failure occurs.
- How does the front half compare to the rear half of the shaft? — The FTX Outlaw uses a two-piece rear central shaft design. The front half (FTX8333) is what you're purchasing here, while the rear half is sold separately as FTX8305. Both are necessary components of the complete rear driveshaft assembly. The front half connects the transmission to the centre of the shaft, whilst the rear half connects to the differential.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this spare part is suitable for all skill levels. Installation is straightforward, and having spare drivetrain components on hand is a smart investment for any RC enthusiast. Beginners should read their instruction manual carefully and might benefit from watching online installation videos before attempting replacement, but the process is not overly complex.
