This 20-tooth steel pinion gear is engineered specifically for brushless RC motors and electric power systems, making it an ideal choice for those upgrading their drivetrain or replacing worn components. The steel construction ensures exceptional durability compared to plastic alternatives, providing longevity and reliability whether you're running a crawling setup, a high-speed basher, or a competition-grade electric RC car. The M0.5 module specification is a critical measurement in gear design that determines compatibility with your existing motor and spur gear setup, so this precision part is exactly what you need for seamless integration into your RC system.

RC enthusiasts across the UK rely on Fastrax components to keep their vehicles running at peak performance. This steel pinion gear is manufactured to exacting standards and represents the kind of quality spare part that makes the difference between a reliable, smooth-running RC car and one that suffers from drivetrain issues, noise, and premature wear. Whether you're maintaining a beloved 1/10 scale electric RC buggy, a rock crawler, or any other electric RC vehicle, having genuine Fastrax spares on hand ensures you can quickly repair and maintain your equipment for continuous enjoyment of the hobby.

Key Features

  • M0.5 Module Specification — This precise module sizing ensures perfect compatibility with M0.5 spur gears and motor shafts commonly found on modern brushless RC cars and trucks, meaning you can confidently install this gear knowing it will mesh correctly with your existing drivetrain components without binding or excessive play.
  • 20-Tooth Design — The 20-tooth count is a popular mid-range gearing option that provides a balance between acceleration and top speed, making this gear suitable for a wide variety of RC applications from basher to competition setups without requiring excessive motor strain.
  • Steel Construction — Unlike plastic pinion gears, the steel construction of this Fastrax component offers significantly greater durability, reduced wear over time, and superior strength under high load conditions, ensuring your pinion gear will outlast cheaper alternatives and maintain precise mesh throughout its service life.
  • 2.3mm Shaft Diameter — The 2.3mm shaft bore fits standard brushless motor shafts used in countless 1/10 and 1/8 scale RC vehicles, providing a secure, slip-free connection that ensures reliable power transmission from motor to drivetrain without wobble or runout issues.
  • Precision Manufacturing — Fastrax parts are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring smooth engagement with your spur gear, reduced noise during operation, improved mesh consistency, and the professional-grade performance that serious RC enthusiasts demand from their spare parts.
  • Genuine Fastrax Quality — As an authentic Fastrax spare part with the official FASTM5-20 part number, you can be assured of genuine quality and compatibility, backed by the manufacturer's reputation for producing reliable RC components trusted by clubs and racers throughout the UK.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax M0.5 20T Steel Pinion Gear represents a significant upgrade over plastic pinion gears commonly found on entry-level RC vehicles. Steel gears exhibit superior hardness, which translates directly into extended service life, particularly important for high-powered brushless RC cars where torque and current draw can be substantial. The M0.5 module is a metric standard measurement that defines the pitch of the gear teeth, ensuring compatibility with other M0.5 components in your drivetrain. The 20-tooth count provides a balanced gear ratio suitable for general-purpose RC use; it's neither too aggressive for top speed nor too conservative for acceleration, making it an excellent choice for users who want versatile performance from their electric RC car. The 2.3mm shaft diameter accommodates standard brushless motors commonly found in 1/10 scale RC buggies, trucks, and crawler vehicles, as well as many 1/8 scale applications. When properly meshed with your spur gear, this pinion will deliver smooth power transfer with minimal noise and wear, contributing to better overall drivetrain efficiency and longer service intervals between maintenance. The precision manufacturing ensures that tooth profiles are accurately cut to specification, preventing the premature wear patterns and noise issues that plague cheaper aftermarket alternatives. Whether you're replacing a worn pinion or upgrading from plastic to steel for improved durability, this Fastrax part will enhance your RC vehicle's reliability and performance characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does M0.5 mean and why is it important? — M0.5 refers to the module of the gear, a metric measurement that defines the pitch and tooth profile of the gear. This specification is critical because it must match your spur gear and motor shaft for proper engagement; using a mismatched module will result in poor mesh, excessive noise, and accelerated wear. The M0.5 standard is one of the most common specifications in RC, used across countless brushless RC cars and trucks in the UK and worldwide.
  • Is this steel pinion gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, this Fastrax pinion gear is suitable for users of all experience levels. Beginners will appreciate the durability and reliability, whilst experienced racers and bashers will value the superior performance characteristics and extended service life compared to plastic alternatives. It's a genuine spare part designed as a direct replacement for worn pinions or as an upgrade component.
  • What is the difference between this 20-tooth gear and other tooth counts? — The 20-tooth count is a mid-range option; lower tooth counts (like 16T or 17T) provide more top speed but less acceleration and higher motor load, whilst higher tooth counts (like 21T or 22T) offer better acceleration but lower top speed. The 20-tooth design represents an excellent balance suitable for varied RC driving including speed runs, basher use, and general-purpose fun without stressing the motor excessively.
  • How do I know if this pinion will fit my RC car? — This gear is designed for brushless motors with a 2.3mm shaft diameter and compatible with M0.5 spur gears. Check your vehicle's motor specifications and current spur gear marking to confirm compatibility. Most 1/10 scale electric RC buggies, trucks, and crawlers use this specification, but it's always wise to verify your existing setup before purchasing.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Steel pinion gears like this Fastrax component typically last considerably longer than plastic alternatives, often providing hundreds of hours of RC driving before showing noticeable wear. However, frequency depends on your driving style, vehicle power level, and maintenance practices. Inspect your pinion regularly for chipped teeth, excessive wear, or damaged shaft, and replace as needed to maintain smooth drivetrain performance.
  • Why should I choose steel over plastic pinions? — Steel gears offer significantly better durability, superior strength under high loads, reduced noise, extended service life, and more consistent mesh characteristics compared to plastic pinions. Whilst steel gears represent a slightly higher initial investment, the extended lifespan and improved performance make them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts throughout the UK who want reliable, maintenance-friendly equipment.
