Key Features
- Steel Construction — Manufactured from hardened steel, this pinion gear offers superior durability and resistance to wear compared to standard plastic alternatives, ensuring your drivetrain components maintain precise mesh and reliable performance through extended use and high-stress racing conditions.
- M0.5 Module Specification — The M0.5 module rating defines the precise tooth pitch and dimensions of this gear, ensuring compatibility with matching components in Fastrax-equipped RC vehicles and allowing seamless integration into existing drivetrain systems without modification.
- 18-Tooth Configuration — The 18-tooth design provides an optimal balance between acceleration response and top-end speed, making this gear suitable for a wide range of RC applications from technical crawling to high-speed circuit racing.
- 2.3mm Bore Diameter — The precisely machined 2.3mm bore ensures a secure fit on standard motor shafts, eliminating excessive play or slippage that could compromise power delivery and drivetrain efficiency during acceleration and cornering.
- Precision Engineering — Every Fastrax pinion gear is manufactured to exacting tolerances, guaranteeing smooth meshing action with spur gears and minimizing noise, vibration, and energy loss in your RC car's transmission system.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax M0.5 18T Steel Pinion Gear represents a significant upgrade path for RC enthusiasts looking to improve drivetrain performance and longevity. Steel pinion gears are the preferred choice among competitive RC racers and serious hobbyists because they maintain their tooth profile far longer than plastic alternatives, resulting in consistently precise gear mesh throughout the lifespan of the component. The M0.5 module specification is a widely adopted standard in the RC hobby, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of spur gears and allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle's power delivery characteristics by swapping pinions of different tooth counts. At 18 teeth, this configuration strikes an excellent balance for most RC vehicles, providing responsive acceleration without sacrificing top-end velocity. The 2.3mm bore diameter is precision-machined to exacting standards, ensuring a secure fit on motor shafts whilst allowing for easy installation and removal during maintenance. Whether you're upgrading from a worn plastic pinion or building a new brushless RC setup, this steel gear will deliver noticeable improvements in efficiency, noise reduction, and overall drivetrain reliability. The hardened steel construction withstands the rigorous demands of competitive racing, high-speed bashing, and technical course driving, making it an excellent long-term investment for your RC hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Fastrax M0.5 18T Steel Pinion Gear compatible with my RC vehicle? — The M0.5 module specification and 2.3mm bore diameter make this gear compatible with any RC vehicle equipped with Fastrax drivetrain components or standard M0.5 gearbox systems. Check your vehicle's documentation or contact our team at RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility with your specific model.
- What are the advantages of a steel pinion gear over plastic? — Steel pinion gears offer superior durability, wear resistance, and consistent performance over extended periods compared to plastic alternatives. They maintain precise tooth profiles longer, resulting in smoother gear meshing, reduced noise, improved efficiency, and ultimately longer service life for your entire drivetrain system. Competitive racers and serious RC enthusiasts favour steel gears for these reasons.
- How do I install the pinion gear? — The 2.3mm bore diameter is designed to fit standard RC motor shafts. Installation typically involves sliding the gear onto the motor shaft and securing it with a set screw or collet. Always ensure the gear is properly seated and tightened to prevent slippage during operation. Refer to your vehicle's assembly manual for detailed installation instructions.
- Can I use this pinion gear to adjust my RC car's gearing? — Yes, the Fastrax M0.5 specification allows you to experiment with different tooth counts to fine-tune your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. The 18-tooth configuration offers a balanced setup, but you can try higher tooth counts for more torque and lower counts for increased top-end speed.
- What tooth count should I choose for my RC setup? — The 18-tooth pinion is a versatile choice suitable for most RC applications. Higher tooth counts (19T, 20T) provide more acceleration and torque for technical driving, whilst lower counts (16T, 17T) offer increased top speed for high-speed circuits. Experiment to find the best balance for your driving style and course conditions.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a precision component, it's suitable for any RC enthusiast, from beginners to advanced competitors. It's an excellent upgrade for anyone looking to improve their vehicle's performance and reliability, though basic mechanical knowledge and proper tools are required for installation.
