Key Features

  • M0.5 Module Specification — The M0.5 module size ensures compatibility with a wide range of RC drivetrain systems, making this gear a versatile choice for various RC car models and configurations available in the UK market.
  • 17-Tooth Configuration — The 17-tooth design provides an optimal balance between acceleration response and top-end speed performance, allowing you to achieve smooth power delivery across a variety of terrain types and driving conditions without sacrificing either quality.
  • Steel Construction — Unlike plastic alternatives, the steel material used in this pinion gear delivers superior durability and longevity, resisting wear and deformation even under high-stress racing conditions and repeated hard use over extended periods.
  • 2.3mm Bore Size — The precisely machined 2.3mm bore ensures a secure, accurate fit on standard motor shafts, eliminating wobble and reducing drivetrain noise for smoother, more efficient power transmission to your RC car's transmission system.
  • High Precision Manufacturing — Fastrax components are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring consistent mesh with your existing gears and delivering reliable performance without unexpected failures or breakdowns during important races or driving sessions.
  • Affordable Replacement Part — At just £3.99, this steel pinion gear represents exceptional value for money, making it an economical choice for keeping your RC car in peak condition without breaking your hobby budget.
  • Universal Compatibility — The standard M0.5 specification makes this gear compatible with multiple RC platforms and brands, providing flexibility if you own several different RC cars or plan to upgrade your existing setup.

Technical Performance

The Fastrax M0.5 17T Steel Pinion Gear is engineered with precision manufacturing standards that ensure reliable performance across a wide range of RC applications. The steel material provides significantly greater resistance to wear compared to plastic alternatives, meaning this gear will maintain its tooth profile and meshing characteristics even after extended use on demanding terrain or during competitive racing sessions. The M0.5 module specification is a widely used standard in the RC hobby, ensuring broad compatibility across numerous vehicle types including rock crawlers, buggies, touring cars, and off-road trucks popular throughout the UK. The 17-tooth count strikes an excellent balance in the gear ratio equation — it's not so aggressive that it causes excessive motor strain or heat buildup, yet aggressive enough to deliver responsive acceleration and good overall power delivery. The 2.3mm bore is machined to precision specifications, guaranteeing concentricity and eliminating runout that could cause vibration or noise. Installation is straightforward on any RC car with a compatible motor shaft, and the gear requires no special tools or expertise to fit. This pinion gear is an essential wear item for anyone running their RC car regularly, as gears naturally experience gradual tooth wear over time. Having quality replacement gears like this on hand ensures you can maintain peak performance and avoid unexpected drivetrain failures during important driving sessions or competitions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an M0.5 module pinion gear and why does it matter for my RC car? — The M0.5 module specification refers to the pitch diameter and tooth profile of the gear, which must match your vehicle's existing gears for proper meshing. Using the correct module ensures smooth, efficient power transmission without excessive noise or wear. The M0.5 module is a widely used standard across many popular RC brands and models available in the UK, making it a versatile choice for enthusiasts with multiple vehicles.
  • Why choose a steel pinion gear instead of a plastic one? — Steel pinion gears offer superior durability and longevity compared to plastic alternatives. They resist wear and deformation much more effectively, maintain their tooth profile over extended use, and are less likely to strip or break during high-stress driving conditions. For serious RC enthusiasts who drive regularly or race competitively, the investment in a steel gear pays dividends in reliability and performance.
  • How do I know if this 17-tooth gear is the right choice for my setup? — The tooth count affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. A 17-tooth pinion is considered mid-range — it provides responsive acceleration without being so aggressive that it overstrains the motor. If you want quicker acceleration, try a higher tooth count; for better top-speed performance, use a lower tooth count. Check your vehicle's documentation or consult with RC experts to find your optimal gearing configuration.
  • Will this gear fit my RC car? — This gear features the standard M0.5 module and 2.3mm bore size, making it compatible with many popular RC models and brands across buggies, crawlers, and touring cars. However, you should verify that your specific vehicle uses M0.5 gearing and has a 2.3mm motor shaft before purchasing. Our team at RC Model Shop are happy to help confirm compatibility.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The replacement interval depends on how frequently you drive and the terrain you tackle. Regular inspection will show tooth wear, and if you notice acceleration lag, increased noise, or grinding sensations, it's time to replace the gear. Having spare gears on hand ensures you can get back on the track quickly without expensive downtime.
  • Is this gear suitable for racing use? — Yes, absolutely. The steel construction and precise manufacturing make this gear suitable for competitive racing, casual weekend bashing, and everything in between. Many UK RC racers stock multiple gears to optimise their setups for different track conditions and racing formats.
