Overview
The Fastrax M0.5 15T Steel Pinion Gear is an essential component for enthusiasts building or upgrading their RC cars and remote control vehicles. Whether you're a serious racer looking to fine-tune your drivetrain or a weekend basher seeking reliable replacement parts, this precision-engineered pinion gear delivers the performance and durability expected from quality RC car upgrades available in the UK. The steel construction ensures longevity and consistent performance, making it an ideal choice for those who demand reliability from their RC hobby equipment.
Pinion gears are critical components in any RC car's drivetrain system, directly affecting acceleration, top speed and overall vehicle performance. The Fastrax M0.5 15T Steel Pinion Gear has been manufactured to exacting standards to ensure smooth meshing with your spur gear, reducing friction and noise whilst maximising power transfer from your motor to the wheels. This is the kind of component that serious RC enthusiasts reach for when they want to optimise their setup and ensure they're running the best possible equipment on their vehicles.
With its 2.3mm shaft diameter, this pinion gear is compatible with a wide range of electric RC motors commonly found in 1/10-scale and similar vehicles throughout the RC hobby community. The M0.5 module specification ensures precise tooth engagement and compatibility with standard spur gears, whilst the 15-tooth count provides a balanced ratio suitable for various racing and recreational applications. If you're serious about getting the best performance from your RC car, investing in quality components like this Fastrax pinion gear is a smart decision.
Key Features
- Steel Construction — The pinion gear is manufactured from hardened steel, which provides exceptional durability and wear resistance compared to plastic alternatives, ensuring it will maintain its shape and performance characteristics through extended use and demanding driving conditions.
- M0.5 Module Specification — This standard metric module ensures perfect compatibility with matching spur gears, guaranteeing smooth, quiet operation and maximum efficiency in your drivetrain system.
- 15-Tooth Count — The 15-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance for general-purpose RC car applications, offering reasonable acceleration whilst maintaining good top-end speed potential across various driving conditions and surfaces.
- 2.3mm Shaft Diameter — This standard shaft size ensures compatibility with most popular electric motor pinions found in the RC hobby, making this gear a versatile upgrade or replacement option for many different RC car setups.
- Precision Manufacturing — Fastrax pinion gears are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring minimal runout and perfect mesh alignment with your spur gear for smooth, efficient power delivery without vibration or noise.
Technical Performance
The Fastrax M0.5 15T Steel Pinion Gear represents a significant upgrade over plastic pinion alternatives commonly supplied with entry-level RC cars. Steel pinion gears offer superior hardness and resistance to wear, meaning they maintain their tooth profile and performance characteristics for far longer than plastic equivalents. The M0.5 module specification is a globally recognised standard in the RC hobby, ensuring that this gear will mesh perfectly with any standard M0.5 spur gear regardless of manufacturer. The 2.3mm shaft diameter accommodates most brushless and brushed electric motors commonly used in 1/10-scale RC cars and buggies available throughout the UK RC market. The 15-tooth count provides an excellent middle ground for general-purpose driving, offering sufficient acceleration for racing applications whilst still allowing respectable top-end speed. By upgrading to a quality steel pinion gear, you'll notice improvements in drivetrain smoothness, reduced noise during operation, and better longevity of your entire drivetrain system. The precision-machined teeth ensure smooth meshing with your spur gear, minimising friction losses and maximising the power transfer from your motor to your wheels.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Fastrax M0.5 15T Steel Pinion Gear suitable for beginners? — Yes, this pinion gear is suitable for both beginners and experienced RC enthusiasts. Beginners should note that pinion gear replacement is a relatively straightforward maintenance task that requires basic mechanical knowledge. If you're unsure about installation, your local RC car shop or experienced RC hobby friends can provide guidance.
- What vehicle types is this pinion gear compatible with? — The M0.5 module with 2.3mm shaft diameter makes this gear compatible with most 1/10-scale and similar RC cars, including buggies, touring cars, stadium trucks and other electric-powered RC vehicles that use standard motor pinions. Always verify your vehicle's existing pinion specifications before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
- Why choose steel pinion gears over plastic alternatives? — Steel pinion gears offer several advantages over plastic options. They are significantly more durable and wear-resistant, maintaining their tooth profile through extended use. Steel gears also provide smoother meshing with spur gears, resulting in quieter operation and improved efficiency. If you regularly drive your RC car or participate in racing, a steel pinion upgrade will deliver better performance and longer service life.
- What does the 15-tooth count mean for my RC car's performance? — The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's speed and acceleration characteristics. The 15-tooth configuration offers a balanced approach suitable for most driving situations. If you want more acceleration and lower top speed, you'd choose fewer teeth; for higher top speed and less acceleration, you'd choose more teeth. The 15T is an excellent all-rounder for general RC car use.
- How do I know if this pinion gear will fit my motor? — Check your existing pinion gear's shaft diameter, which should be 2.3mm for this Fastrax gear. You should also verify that your spur gear is M0.5 module specification. If you're unsure, take measurements or consult your RC car's manual or local RC hobby retailer.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — With quality steel pinion gears like this Fastrax option, you can expect extended service life compared to plastic alternatives. Replacement frequency depends on how frequently you drive and the conditions you drive in. Regular inspection for tooth wear will help you determine when replacement is necessary. Many RC enthusiasts keep spare pinion gears on hand for quick track-side replacements during racing events.
